When I moved to Philadelphia, I didn't think I'd find anyone to replace my previous massage therapist, who was really special. I don't view massage as a salon service; it's a medical service for my tight shoulders and back. After several disastrous experiences (who knew how many ways there are for a BAD massage) I found Adrian through a referral and never looked back. I've been going regularly for almost two years. Adrian helped me recover from a workout injury and my muscles are getting looser and more flexible. He has a deep knowledge about a variety of massage techniques and he comes up with creative ideas to deal with specific issues. Adrian's got a peaceful, radiant presence. He's always so warm and positive. He knows a lot about the body and is open to giving advice on eating and living well, if you take the initiative to ask. I came here for acupuncture and while I have no complaints about the service, I was really annoyed by the amount of talking. While I understand that some noise during community acupuncture is to be expected, it's ridiculous that one person is having an actual phone conversation and another is talking endlessly to the acupuncturist about "believing in herself". I could hardly relax during my session. In the future, I don't think I'll use this location for acupuncture. It's too bad bc the space is quite pretty but the noise and talking are too much. read more

Attentive staff. Honored a discount after a miscommunication regarding how it worked. My massage was okay. They are not completely wheelchair accessible but do a nice job accommodating my needs. I won't say the name of the greatest massage therapist that I haver ever found to help me with my chronic pain, because that means s/he will be booked up to the point that I cannot get in. What I will say is that everyone at HAC is incredibly skilled - they know the mechanics of bodies, but apply an art to it. That means someone isn't rubbing all the muscles that hurt, but doing some sort of magical communication to those muscles. You leave feeling like someone replaced your body. read more

I have had chronic neck and back pain since the end of 2016. I have tried everything (massage therapy, deep tissue, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc). My pain has been crippling and just something I've gotten used to living with. A friend recommended me to HAC and specifically, Adrian. I went for a 90 minute myofascial release with Adrian. I have never had such a mindful, deep and releasing body work as I did with Adrian. He is incredibly skilled. His space is clean and beautiful. He made me feel very comfortable and he was just so wonderful to work with. I walked out feeling pretty amazing and look forward to seeing if my pain will decrease and disappear. read more

I write this review reluctantly. The reason for the reluctance... later. I first met Jess about 2 years ago when she worked at Bella Vista. My review on yelp for that visit first included the following: "My deep tissue massage was, well deep. My therapist was small in stature, which had me a bit worried at first. No need. She was strong and her hands worked on my knots in a serious manner. The 50 minutes or so went slowly as so much intense focus was on dissolving those kinks. I have gotten massages with some regularity for 25 years. This was up there among the best." She left Philadelphia about a year ago. I also dropped my membership at Bella Vista, because they seemed to be changing- getting corporatized. I was glad to hear that Jess was back in town. A couple of years later, she still has a knack for getting out the kinks in my upper back, above and between my scapulae- the area some refer to as the storehouse of stress. I recommend her! The space itself is comfortable, and the massage room larger than most, feels airy and welcoming. Now, to my reluctance. I am an impulse massage seeker. I can't and often am too busy to plan a massage a few weeks later. Because Adrian and Jess are just starting out- the availability of appointments should work for the time being. I realize that I have a small window before they become popular. I realize that writing them a good review only hastens the inevitable closing of this window. read more

I'll say it again--Adrian is hands-down the most intuitive and powerful body worker I have ever had the pleasure of working with--in Philly or in the world (and I've had a lot of massage over the years including some unpleasant and downright creepy experiences prior to "finding" Adrian 7 years ago. But I digress....) He is a consummate professional, as well as very good with keeping his energy boundaries very strong. Jen was amazing! Next level of relaxation and soothing out all the kinks from working and working out. She sat me down and we chatted about what I was looking for, what areas needed attention, etc.. she guided me through listening to my breath and had the most peaceful presence - just a lovely, super knowledgeable practitioner who really loves what she does. I tend to tense up during massages, focusing so much on trying to relax that I can't. Jen was able to soothe my anxieties. As a chronic pain patient for over 12 years I've seen a lot of massage therapists, acupuncturists, and sought all types of holistic help to ease my daily tension headaches, joint pain, and eventually shoulder than feels like it's made of concrete. Yesterday I came to Healing Arts Collective to get a massage from Adrian that was not just relaxing but quite productive. He stretched my arms in ways I never have, loosened up multiple areas so that the balls of pain stuck inside me where able to breathe. I feel like I have a new shoulder! Even better I was able to get the half hour massage for $40, at other places you can usually just book an hour, often for an outrageous amount. After my massage Adrian introduced me to Jason, who runs the "community acupuncture" which is such a cool idea. I love how casual it was, you sit in the most comfortable chair, lay back, tell Jason what's bothering you and he sticks needles where ever he can to make you feel incredible for a half hour, as if you had taken a fantastic drug that melts away all your hurt. Payment is done on a sliding scale depending on your income, so I only had to pay $30. You can stop right in anytime on Saturdays and just sit down, no appointment. All in all I really like being able to do the combination of the two, massage and acupuncture, back to back. These guys are highly skilled, if you are in pain they will help! read more

I highly recommend Gail Kotel's Pilates classes, which I've taken and miss (I've yet to experience as gifted a teacher as Gail in mat Pilates). As a yoga teacher, I'm in honest appreciation of her depth of knowledge of the human body and how Pilates is to your benefit. Her instruction is very clear, yet easy to follow, with safety in mind.
