I contracted ADT almost two years ago. My sensor batteries are starting to die. They installed the sensor up against the window frame and I can't slide off cover to replace battery. They did not install properly and I can not maintain. ADT would like me to either pay them(again), or, leave it and take a chance with a window not covered. ADT service is worse than dreadful. This is the current problem. Not my first and I'm not lucky enough for it to be my last. You've been warned. I have been an ADT customer since I bought my house 9 years ago. I've not once missed a payment because I'm on auto draft. So some background on me.....I'm a senior citizen with a torn meniscus in one knee and in need of a knee replacement on the other knee, both surgery and procedure are scheduled. I am also alone. The battery in my sliding glass door needed to be changed. I am 4'11" and with 2 bad knees cannot get on a step ladder to change it. Of course the panel starts beeping at 5 o'clock in the morning. I asked if they could help. They came 2 days later and told me they're charging me $147 to change the battery. I was appalled but not sure what other options I had. I decided I need to cancel this service so called to find out when my contract would be up. They don't spare their humans too easily so the robot said it would send me a link with the docs. They don't honor their service. They hold you to a contract that they CANNOT provide.. They never tried to fix anything until I called to cancel. And informed me i was under contract. I wouldn't have a problem if I was getting what I have been paying for. So they can have their cancellation fee. That's all they want , something for NOTHING. I just moved to town and had my ADT sign in my yard and noticed an ADT truck two doors down. I've got cameras all over my house and watched the guy from ATT purposely break my sign. What a joke this company is. I tried to call to tell the company, but you can't talk to anyone. Maybe I should call the police on them? Never use this company very shady! read more

Since my last review I've reached out to ADT Several times, the phone number directly from the app led me to a person who actually works for ADT. He explained that they only provide the equipment to third party "authorized providers." Unfortunately I had the bad luck of getting stuck dealing with "Defenders LLC" who scammed me during this global pandemic and expect me to pay remaining balance of $1000 for a 3 contract. I was very clear and covered all my bases explaining to the sales rep that I have a short term lease and would have to cancel when my project ends in a few months. He strung me along and now I've been back and forth with several ADT reps that do not care about people or the financial condition of the country at all. They don't care about anything especially safety. They only care about $ even if it leaves you broke in a pandemic. I've been back and forth with Anya from corporate who is the least empathetical person I have spoken in my life. They promised me a 6month money back satisfaction guarantee and that's why I signed a contract, under the impression I can cancel if I'm not happy. The sales rep handed the certificate to me the day he peer pressured me into te contract. (See attached image of the contract). Apparently the money back only Applies to the actual equipment which is guaranteed by ADT itself. The contract is with a subcontractor and they are the ones deceiving people. (ADT Please stop asking me to contact you to address my concerns. I am always met with the response "I signed a contract." There is no empathy or human emotion within your company. Stop deceiving your clients and be truly upfront with us. I was able to speak to a branch manager, and she too was emotionless and unempathetic. All I can do now is continue to pay for something that I do not need while leaving as many reviews to warn consumers of ADT's deceitful sales tactics.) ADT's motto should read as " More than just a LIE!! In the sand". BAIT AND SWITCH - A DISGRACEFUL COMPANY I direct these comments to ADT and Defender, the local dealer. Going forward, I'll identify the company as ADT. While I have no issue with the quality of the product and service ADT provides, they clearly and run a Bait and Switch Pricing Operation. I say clear because in retrospect and looking at other reviews, their business practice is consistent - and disgraceful. I'll describe what happened to me (and many others). I received a mailer from ADT stating that they're offering service for $27.99. I called the number, explained that my house already had ADT equipment. The representative stated that not only is the $27.99 rate valid but that I would receive an $800 credit towards any new equipment. I asked at least three times if the $27.99 was valid for me and was assured that it was. I also inquired why I would need a credit towards new equipment since I was already armed. The representative stated that I probably won't -it's a simple matter of turning on the existing equipment. We set an appointment and was told me it shouldn't be any longer than 45 minutes to an hour. The service person arrived promptly at the time agreed on - 11:00 AM. Assuming this was a quick and simply task I had scheduled meetings for myself at 1:00 and 2:00 PM. I showed him where the equipment was, went back to work and assumed this would all be quick and simple. He did tell me that we would need to replace many of the existing devices to ensure that the service worked - but again, that was covered by the $800 credit. Over an hour and 15 minutes later, the representative told me he wanted to show me some add-ons I might like. Recognizing that this was a sales presentation, I said that while I might have an interest, I needed to do this another time. I assumed he had already done everything that was required. He then told me hadn't even really stared the work and that he needed several more hours. I was furious and said that we should forget it and undo whatever he had already done. He then put me on the phone with a "Sales Manager" who tried to high pressure me into completing the installation. I initially said no. After further consideration - and not wanting to waste even more time - I asked if he could complete everything by 1:30 so I could at least do my 2:00 meeting. He told me yes. I cancelled the 1:00 meeting and agreed. By nearly 1:40 (2:40 minutes - not 45 minutes to an hour), the representative said he was done and I that I just needed to "quickly sign off" on the paperwork. I asked once more if I was getting the $27.99 rate, he said yes and everything else in there "was pretty standard". Maybe a week later I received a bill for $52.99. I was of course surprised after the many reassurances that I was getting the $27.99 rate. I was told by the person on the phone that I had in fact signed off on a 3 year contact at a rate of $52.99. When I expressed my absolute frustration and disgust, he/she went on to explain that the $27.99 rate only applies if you have a land line phone. I said that it doesn't say that anywhere on the advertisement. He/she said it does on the back. After looking for several minutes I saw that buried in all the fine print is one sentence about the need for a land line if you wanted that rate. The representative suggested that perhaps I should consider getting a land line! I won't go into the absolute stupidity of such a suggestion. Yet, at no time did anyone in the organization bring this up when I asked for assurances that I was receiving the $27.99 rate prior to and during the installation. I then posted this review and made several tweets on your customer service line out of absolute disgust. I also looked up reviews and saw that many people - particularly the elderly- have had similar experiences. After three or four days someone from named Shannon left a message for me. I called her back. She returned my call several days later. I called her back and couldn't get her on the phone. I imagine this is what counts as "customer service" - a lame attempt at getting me on the phone. Here's the thing that's so pathetic. You have a decent product and service that I may have willingly paid the going rate for. Instead you clearly have a methodology of entrapping customers to contract for the service. I am still considering legal action and. have been in contact with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. At minimum, I will continue to post this story on any and all customer review sites. Tried to cancel services Saturday 12/26- you can pretty much do anything on a weekend, EXCEPT cancel. Long phone wait times, took multiple calls to connect. Finally got to speak with a human to cancel today, and will be charged for the next 30 days despite the system having been replaced with RING. Asked for billing, no mechanism to waive 30 day notice or refund the charge. Representative hung up on me when I said I would leave a bad review on Yelp. Rip-off. read more

Had an ADT system for 2.5 years until we sold the house. When the last auto pay had come out they informed us that we still had to pay over $300 for "early termination". According to them the only way it would be waived would be if new owners of home activated system. 10 days after we sold house they were still insisted I pay. Then by a stroke of luck I found out the new owners had signed up for service the day of closing! Called ADT back and they then confirmed and took the charges off for us. Their excuse was their system isn't set up to protect against collecting double for the same residential account. ADT may be a huge national alarm company but they certainly are not an honest one. I've been a customer for 13 years. I've called twice to see if they have a good offer for upgrades to a 13 year customer. Best offer was a $500 purchase for the new equipment and a $20 INCREASE in monthly fee. I requested the quote by email. Never got it. So for three days I have been trying to cancel my service. Only one department handles it, and over two days and multiple calls I was on hold for over 10 minutes each time. I finally got really pissed off and called their corporate offices where the customer advocate took care of my request. ADT acts like they don't care and you know where that will end. If I could say "ZERO" stars I would! Look elsewhere for a security company. I called "Corporate" (that is the number listed everywhere). I setup an appointment for an overview of what I was interested in. The "Corporate" agent could not give me all of the prices, but I would be getting a lot of new client equipment, almost the entire house, he then said that the technical would have everything with him and go over all of the options for equipment and service options. NOT! First the tech insisted that he works for ADT, he must have said that at least a dozen times (later I found out he works for a third party company associated with ADT, not ADT). He removed the alarm system that I currently had installed and made 10 holes in my wall to install his. I asked why he was taking mine down as I was not committed to ADT as of yet. He said he needed to put their panel in to "show" me. Then the bait and switch. Super expensive. I said no, then he came up with another price that was half the first one, but using all of the old equipment. And no thermostat, if i wanted a thermostat the monthly fee is another $10. They broke what was here, and the wall too. The final answer is to me is submit for the wall and they may cover it, but my alarm was old so that's it, they will not fix it to where it was. Wish I read these reviews before getting involved with ADT. But I'm no where near done! There was a lot more, they stayed 6.5 hours. I had the most incredible technician visit my home today to update my 25 year old system with Coastal/Devcon/ADT. He was here from 10 am - after 5 pm and did not take a lunch break. He ran new wiring, which took hours, even climbed up into my attic to reach a line which he ran over the ceiling so he did not have to make unnecessary holes. This young man, named Rami, was so knowledgeable and patient and he even cleaned up every bit of debris so it looked like no one was here (he even returned the water glass I gave him to the sink). If I could keep him, I would have. He felt the old configuration of motion sensors and glass break sensors were not well placed and totally revamped my system so now I feel very secure. He also spend a lot of time going over how to work with the keypads and fobs and tested everything to make sure it was working as it should. My old motion sensor in my bedroom was not working which was something I would never know, so he replaced it and showed me how it was working by having me and my pets walk around the room. I have been with ADT forever and now, would never leave them, even though I get daily phonecalls talking about changing security companies. I highly recommend ADT and if you can request Rami, go for it. If you are a customer with hard-wired equipment, I suggest contacting customer loyalty and see what they can do for you.
