Customers be aware of ... my husband signed up for the services because when we bought our house their sales person came like a vicious animal looking for food ... anyway I was at work at the time so i didn't know the details of the contract until today when I contacted them for the second time due to an issue with one of my sensors. Unfortunately if you need a technician to come out you have to pay $120 for the first half hour, yes that's right! My system needs to be reprogrammed. So if he takes all day, you are dammed!!!! When I ask, how much is the cancellation fee... OMG I should kept that alone. It will cost me $900, yes thats right!!! You have to pay for the service that you cannot get it. I can't arm the alarm from the remote control or cell phone because I can't by pass the sensor zone that has a problem. My tip is to get a company that can stay behind their services because if you have a problem they will solve for you like xfinity for example, ahhh without outrageous charges Now I have to wait two more years to get rid of it. read more

For your own sanity just stay away from this company. I should've remembered from my previous experience in 2010 when having to deal with them after a move, Long story short I owned a home and used an ADT system, had to move and therefore cancelled it because my temporary housing did not allow an alarm system. Fast forward a few weeks and I receive a $553 bill from ADT for the "remainder of my contract", I call and ask for a copy of this mystery 3 year contract and they say I will receive it by mail in 7-10 days. 2 weeks later my bank account is charged $553 anyway. We call in and magically they have no record of our contract and refund the charges. That's great and all, but why should it have to take 2 weeks back and forth with them when one person on the phone was able to say there is no record of the contract!!!!! There are tons of other alarm companies out there and I'm fairly sure it's easy to beat ADT's customer service (and their sketchy security monitoring). They're not worth the hassle! read more

The agent lied to me when I specifically asked upfront about termination policies. She said I could cancel the policy anytime and didn't reveal termination fee. They can lie anything to rip a big chunk of money off you. Each time you call customer service or loyalty department, you get different answers and they never get back to you if when you leave a message. I have had many services as I frequently move to different states, this is the worst available. read more

ADT Scam - Don't let it happen to you I called ADT to set up an install so I could have an alarm system at my new business. The Customer Service Rep I talked to said their 3 year contract came with free install. I told the C.S. Rep that I would pay for the install because I only wanted a 1 year contract. I paid AT&T to install the cable and modem for internet service, as well, because I only wanted a one year contract. The Rep continued to push the three year/free install. I explained that I had a one year lease for the building. Finally, the rep told me they would schedule the appointment and provide me with the cost of the install. The day of the install a sales rep named Donna showed up at my business. She was obviously there to convince me to sign up for the three year contract. She said I could still get the free install and I would not have to pay the $200.00 plus tax for the install I had already agreed to pay. I told her I did not want the three year contract several times. Donna stayed for the duration of the install and complained the entire time about her new computer that was not working correctly. When the install was complete she asked me to sign a form on her computer that was hard to read. She said the issue was due to it not being set up correctly but she assured me she would e-mail a copy of the contract to me later that day. This is how they scammed me and I fell for it because I was too busy with starting my new business to read through all of my e-mails to find the fake three year contract. I signed another one year lease for the building I was renting. At the end of the second year I decided to close the business location until I could find a place that met all of our requirements. When I called ADT to close my account they told me I had to give them a thirty day notice. Then I was told that I would have to pay the remaining balance on the three year contract (well over $600.00). I told the rep I only had a one year contract and even paid for my own install. She stated again that it was a three year contract and she would have the billing dept. send me a copy of the contract via e-mail. The e-mail contained a copy of the DocuSign form which shows my signature and initials but neither the signature or initials line up to the actual document signature line. It looks as if they used another form and somehow transferred it? If someone ever figures out how they are pulling off this scam on customers it will make for a great class action suit. My story ends with me paying the remaining year left on this fake contract so it does not ruin my credit. When I lease a new building later this year I won't be calling ADT for Any reason!!! read more

My mother's 8 month old ADT Security system stopped working and they tell her a technician is scheduled a week later. Unacceptable response time. During her call to customer service they gave her directions to troubleshoot the system and in the process has her take the cover off of the electrical outlet. It is absolutely unacceptable to tell a 77 year old lady to do that. I wish I could give them ZERO stars. I would give no stars if I could. Customer service is horrible. They do not call back when they say. They hold you hostage for 3 years even if you are receiving terrible service. You are stuck unless you pay massive termination fees. They give realtors gift cards to talk you into signing up with them. RUN RUN RUN. They came couldn't make the cameras worked and we left just the alarm only, a few days ago had a problem with the alarm and discovered that we WERE NOT CONNECTED to the central since September last year but they were charging us for service and now they can only credit FOR ONE MONTH ONLY. Run as fast as you can from ADT. I am a soon to be former Bright House/Spectrum customer since they are no longer supporting this line of business as of February 2020. I contracted with ADT in December 2019 with the understanding that they could use my existing Spectrum door and window sensors with the addition of a converter. I was very specific in my request regarding the use of my existing equipment and I was assured by ADT it could be done. This was the sole reason for going with ADT. Due to multiple errors by the ADT representative when I paid and requested the service I endured problems throughout my quest to get the services installed. On 1/4/2020 a technician arrived at my home only to inform me that they could not use my existing equipment and that the initial representative gave me incorrect information. I was informed by the technician that in order to activate ADT I would have to purchase their sensors which cost $40.00 each. My existing home has 27 sensors which equated to $1,080.00. I declined their services on 1/4. Each time I contacted ADT for assistance throughout this process their representatives lacked the skills necessary to handle my concerns. ADT sent a guy out to fix it the next day, he acknowledged that the system failed and took steps to repair but when I asked ADT for the deductible insurance they claim they provide, they gave me the runaround for weeks and never paid. ADT has horrible customer service and deceptive business practices. I would never go through them again after the dishonest mishaps that i have had with my current contract with them. I was signed up for a 3 year contract. After 4 years, when i tried to quit, they said i owed $392. i called multiple times to dispute. The reps said i had to wait to receive my bill in the mail and then i could follow up with them. They never sent a bill and automatically charged my credit card the full amount. Pretty hard to fight a company to get your money back. Seems very bad business practice to me. Their monitoring was fine. But i think you can get fine monitoring from a number of other companies that probably care about their individual customers more. read more

I have been an ADT customer for over 10 years. For the past 2 months I have received despicable customer service. I have experience rude and unhelpful behavior from employees answering phones. I have been placed on hold many times, for 5 minutes or more, only to be disconnected. I requested to speak to managers only to have zero phone calls returned. I requested to speak to managers only to be hung up. Ultimately, I called and cancelled my service due to service dissatisfaction. Last week, I received a bill for $262 for the remainder of my contract. The audacity to treat customers so poorly and then continue to demand money, in my opinion, has elevated ADT Security Services, Inc as one of the worst customer service companies currently in existence. read more

So I have a ADT Alarm System in my house that was already here when I moved in and recently today the power randomly went out and came back on which I guess rebooted the system. I decided to step outside to see if everything was okay and when I opened my door the alarm went off and was extremely loud.. I held my hand over the speaker to kill most of the sound and decided to call ADT because I didn't know what to do I never had this happen to me before. When I called ADT the guy told me someone can come out tomorrow to take a look at it and stop it from making noise but I had to pay $100. This is so unfair because I don't have that kind of money and now I'm stuck in my own home because the system is armed and if I open my door again I'm pretty sure it's going to do it again. Firstly, i called to install my system at a promotional rate.. once the person came to install he didnt feel like looking for my phone line so he installed an upgraded "more expensive system" he told me if i had any issues that i could cancel at any time and that i would receive a complimentary card for 200$ which would cover part of my contract. I was also told it was a year long contract when in actuality it was 3 years. The person who installed my system also kept my phone number and sent me texts hitting on me which was completely inappropriate and if anything made me feel less safe. I then found out that my system was improperly installed and had to have someone else come out to re-do the installation.. in which they had to keep them massive black antena sticking out for it to work. Then i found out that my system still wasn't working because i hadn't paid the police department (which hadn't been disclosed to me). The drama doesn't end there.. one of the "shocks" ended up popping off of my window and the alarm would keep going off at random times.. so not only was my home unprotected it was also now layered with that irritating beeping.. someone came and fixed that but my system has never once worked properly so i have kept it inactive. I have tried numerous times to talk to someone about canceling my contract on principle and no one has cared about the way i've been treated. Clearly, im going to need to take care of this legally because these people DO NOT CARE about their customers. I would not recommend their services to anyone i know. read more

I disconnected my ADT Defender service on about February, 2016. They gave terrible service that left me without combination locks they sold me and they left me after service calls without monitoring. I put a complaint on the ADT website and was advised I would be contacted. I never was. It cost me over $400 to replace one of the combination locks and the other has to be unlocked with a key, the lock doesn't work. I switched to another security system which is working fine. Now ADT Defenders are threatening to sue me for breach of contract. They also registered a complaint with the credit bureau. If you read this hire someone else they are lie and lie and lie some more. I had them come out to install a system at my business which they showed up 3 hrs late for. They gave me one price over the phone and another when salesman showed up. He was a complete jerk, but I had to do what I had to due. I called to complain which was a complete waste of time on hold over an hour and 15 mins. Then I started getting bills however service was not even working properly. Finally someone showed up I asked them to remove everything they had someone talk to me on the phone who promised 6 months free service well again it was a lie they dinged my CC for the monthly charges. I called to complain again and of course she never called back or responded to my emails and her boss was even more of a waste of time. Then my system goes down and of course "we will be there in a week to fix it." I cant stand them they are they worst company I have ever done business with!!! Run, run fast! read more

I purchased a new home 3 months ago and selected ADT as my security system with camera. This is where the nightmare started. First, it took 6 weeks to get the cameras installed. Since then it has been an additional 8 weeks and the camera system is still not functioning as advertised. Spent $2000 had 3 service calls and system is still not functioning. Their subcontract company who does the install; DEFENDER, HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. Today a technician was supposed to come to my home between the hours of one and five. The technician did not come. I called and spent 30 minutes on hold just to speak to a representative. I asked the representative if I could speak to a supervisor and I was told one would call me in 30 to 40 minutes. Supervisor never called. Apparently ADT is simply too big and too arrogant to spend money on hiring enough customer service representatives and to train their team properly. Buyer beware. read more

Monitoring was fine, a few issues with some of the equipment and conflicting answers about how to fix it and what the charge would be. But my biggest issue is cancelling services. It is a NIGHTMARE. I've called repeatedly, used their chat feature, faxed and emailed trying to cancel service. Yet somehow, they keep losing my request to cancel. They tell you it's easy to cancel if you're under military orders to move - just provide a copy of the orders they say. But the reality is that they'll drag their feet and make you jump through hoops for weeks. Meanwhile, my house is selling, I can't cancel service and I'm stuck paying for an alarm system on a house I will no longer own. read more

They have messed with the wrong Marine. If there's a rating lower than 1, ADT in Kissimmee /Poinciana Florida deserves it. This company blatantly lied about the price, 100.00 Visa card promotion , etc. They are guilty of all the same deceptive practices that other locations are being accused of; thus receiving the lowest ratings available. I am contacting the State of Florida's Attorney General's office to file a complaint. I strongly suggest others do the same. I was told we will have to pay 75% of the 3 yr. contract by cancelling. Not going to happen. When we called about the 100.00 Visa card we were given an 800 # to call which claimed they didn't have our address on record as qualifying. We were referred back to Adt and told to get the "Authorized Dealers " name. It was so obvious that we had been played, Big time. It's on!!! I had no doubt that there would be horrific reviews . Ok. ADT made their official decision as to their position on the money they stole from me. They have closed their case with the BBB and advised that they "accepted" my cancellation but will not be returning a dime of the money they stole. At their own admission, I was charged for several months for service they were not providing me. They run TV commercials nation wide showing how their "service" protects people from bad guys. Read their fine print on the the contract. I am sure that some scummy attorney has written somewhere in the fine print that they are legally robbing you and there is nothing you can do about it. Anyway, i am looking at this from the bright side... This could be a story about how my wife and/or small children were murdered in their sleep because ADT was not providing my the protection I have paid nearly a decade for. At least I have finally cancelled and the robbery has come to an end! You are not secure with ADT! You can save thousands buy just buying an internal house alarm with wireless sensors for $200 and you will have the same protection that ADT screws you for. Do NOT rely on them. Do NOT trust the safety of your family with them! They will tell you "not our problem" and try to sell you even more worthless garbage to try to sell you their false sense of security. Extremely short-sided of these con-men. There was a time I thought ADT was the greatest thing ever. We had them in TN and if the alarm went off, we got a call. On one occasion, we had a fire and the alarm went off at 5am or so. ADT called me, firemen were on the way and what better service than that? We moved to NJ. Our contract said their service followed us for free. Not so. When I called, we were told we were to get a $100 VISA gift card. No one, the local installer or the original people could help me, they acted like I was from Mars. So, we were more than $100.00 out of pocket. Fast forward to today, well August 4, 2015. I wrote a letter to Naren Gursahaney, CEO and Shawn Lucht, President of Customer Experience and Service Delivery complaining that we had a security and fire alarm system installed over 3.5 years ago that did not work properly. We were having trouble with a "chirp" that sent us to one alarm and it was mismarked by the installer sending us to the wrong alarm. NOT THE MAIN ISSUE...Called ADT and the technician came out to find NOT ONE (of which there are about 9) smoke alarms worked! This has been since the original installation. The technician, replaced them all, free of charge which he should have. My major complaint now, is that upon writing to the aforementioned "big shots" I felt I should have been either reimbursed for half of my payments for service I never had for 3.5 years or free service for a period of time to make up for the past inequity. I have not, to this day, received a phone call, receipt of letter, apology or compensation from either of these people who run this company. Nada, nothing. On a side note, ADT hires contractors in many cases to do installs etc., which apparently is what we had. They wear ADT uniforms and have ADT plastered on their vehicles and paperwork...you think you are dealing with THE company. We will be looking around at other options. Worst security company I have ever had to deal with this company's name should be called the scammers security system. I was lied to and forced to sign a 3 year contract for services and equipment that wasn't even mine I was supposed to be purchasing a house that already had a security system with cameras and keypads and was told by adt that I had to sign a contract to be able to activate the system when we found out we couldn't purchase the house we were staying in adt refused to cancel the contract when we moved to the home we did purchase adt charged us for the equipment from the home we previously stayed in that wasn't even our equipment. They charged us hundreds of dollars to put equipment into our new home. The tech authorized a payment without our consent and never gave us any paperwork for it I asked him to check all of the sensors in our home to make sure they were working properly he never did because he was to tired. I have had 2 salesman come into my home with there disgusting shoes ruined my expensive rug because they were to lazy to take there shoes off or put on shoe sleeves. A few days later I noticed one of my sensors wasn't working when I called to complain they told me I would have to pay to have one installed if the tech would have did his job he would have seen one wasn't working properly so at any point a burglar could break into my home and we would have never known talk about safety adt only cares about making money they don't care about the safety of there customer. I have contacted the BBB several times about this issue demanding my contact get canceled because of all the issues we have had and Adt refuses because once again all they care about is the money they make I will never ever recommend this security company to anyone because I would never want them to go through what I have had to deal with. There equipment isn't up to date my alarm has gone off multiple times and never got any calls from the company asking if we were ok. If I had the money to pay to cancel the contact I would have done that a long time ago that's how the company sucks you into a contract because they make it for 3 years no other company does that they should be shut down how can anyone even want adt as there security company is beyond me I currently have Comcast and I can't even get there alarm system which is way better than adt because I have to wait another year and a half before this contract is up my advice to anyone reading this don't use them go somewhere else because you will regret it once you sign that contract your locked in for good no way of getting out without paying them. read more

Last January, 2014, it only took 5 visits for ADT to fix our home security system. As I recall, we waited at least a week for the first tech to arrive. This year, January 2015, I had to call once again because the system is again inoperable. After spending 24 minutes on the phone running diagnostics with the customer service department, I was finally advised that a service call would be once again needed. I was advised that the first available date was over two weeks from that date. When I contacted their corporate office to complain, I was advised by a lady, Faith, that she could not improve on the date. I advised her that I was not happy with her response and wished I could find a local company that is more responsive. It is too bad that the company we use at our home in the Chicago area, Alarm Detection Services, does not offer service down here in the Boca Raton, Florida area since they provide excellent service including one to two lead time the few times we have needed a tech. read more
