Ethiopian restaurant along Edmonds...So many good line up of resto in here and I am trying them all…read moreone by one....Today is the Abyssinia. Another place that showcased their cultures with the interior designs and decors.Large TV playing sports events, small size restaurants, They serves alcoholic beverages. Free street parking...not a problem... No appez available from the menu...thats weird.... Spices are heavily used in African cuisines this is the reason why the place smells good but that will stick in your clothing....just saying.... They cook chicken, beef, fish, lamb and veggies on a very exotic way and take note hotly spiced dishes. Service is a bit poor when i came, not busy but it seems like the waitress can not focus, I asked for hot water and she gave me cold ones, my food was served and no cutlery and even napkins, none really until i asked for it. I got the Ye-asa Kifto(fish) minced lean fish mixed with mitmita. and butter. The butter is enhanced with koseref that gives distinct flavor, comes with Ethiopian salad on the side. FYI: MItmita is an orange-red color powdered seasoning that contains ground African bird's eye chili pepper, usually has cumin, cinnamon, and ginger. the dish i ordered was really hot and heavily spiced, halfway my meal my nose drips hahahha, It will surely triggered your sleeping hemorrhoids even the salad was spicy, but still it was an excellent dish. Next time i would like to try meat dishes but that is not soon....

We dined in, sitting on their patio, and got the vegetable platter for 2 ($12.50 plus tax per person). You get a really nice plate of 5 different dishes--the standard Ethiopian dishes. Their misir wat was especially tasty, amply spicy and rich. You get plenty of injera to scoop up the food, but you can always ask for more. Very friendly service. I'd say this ranks up there among the best Ethiopian places in Vancouver -- it's just more no frills in terms of the atmosphere and whatnot. I'd return, but perhaps do takeout. Recommended.

When I went…read moreinside, there were people smoking hukas and whatnot, and I was asked whether I was there to smoke or to eat. They do both Mediterranean and Ethiopian cuisines, and I came here for the Ethiopian -- they had a veggie combo ($18 plus tax) which what I came for. The food came out in less than 5 minutes -- I guess the dishes are all prepared in advance. The platter came with misir wot (red lentils), yellow lentils, shiro (smoked chickpea), and a yellow cabbage dish, with a green salad and 3 extra pieces of injera. First, props to the salad -- so many Ethiopian places give you a lame green salad with iceberg lettuce; this had some nice leafy greens with cucumber and tomato, and a very nice tangy dressing. All 4 of the hot dishes were excellent, especially the misir wot and yellow lentils. Huge portions, which makes the rather steep price ($18) worth it (this is higher than any veggie combo at any other Ethiopian places in Vancouver). To round it off, the service was excellent -- the young woman serving me was very friendly, helpful and quick. This is now one of my top spots for Ethiopian in Greater Van. Very much recommended.

The injera bread was moist, bubbly, and airy and paired excellently with the spiced vegetables. The variety of flavours and textures included with the veggie combo was awesome and allowed me to continue switching up the flavours in my mouth. Loved the generous portion size allowing you to eat to full satisfaction and beyond. It was a veggie feast with a nice kick and made you feel good after eating it!

Have you ever had Ethiopian food before?…read more Nope, neither have I. I was hanging out with a friend from across town & I wanted to try dinner at another restaurant further up on Commercial Dr. So we decided on drinks here first at Harambe Ethiopian Restaurant, while we waited for our standby reservation to come through at the other restaurant. My friend had been here before & highly recommended we come back again to eat. I got to try Ethiopian Honey Wine for the first time. It was refreshingly delicious. Sat at the bar & chilled. Saw various dishes coming out of the kitchen & the look & smell were causing my stomach to growl. Got to meet the owner Daniel - a very nice gentleman. He has been running this restaurant now for over 25 years. He expressed that times are hard, as noted by all the restaurant closures all over Metro Vancouver. But he's hanging in there so if you want to try Ethiopian food - consider Harembe & support local. Look out for more food pictures sometime in the later part Spring when I return.

I got the chef's choice combination and my friend got the veggie lovers combination. The food arrived relatively promptly and it was presented as a nice spread. Eating with our hands was a neat experience to enjoy the food the traditional way. The server told me to mix all the ingredients together but I wanted to taste each item first. Perhaps mixing it all would have been better as there were a couple items I found their taste to be a bit strong on their own. Personally I also found it on the oily side. The injera was great at soaking it all up but I was unable to finish the injera that was served at the bottom of all the ingredients at the end, with all the oil that was there. Overall it was a great experience and if I were to return, I would skip the combo and order a dish I liked.
