I had a check engine light on. I had a diagnostic check perforned at another shop. The diagnostic check indicated that bank one sensor was bad. I watch the mechanic run the diagnostic. It took about five minutes. Advance auto did a diagnostic test which showed the same diagnostic. They also did a vehicle check which I did ask for or authorize. They did't find anything else other then the original bank one sensor. They charge me $155.00 for a diagnostic that I had already received from another shop for free. They never mentioned the vehicle inspection or the charge for it until the vehicle was ready for pickup. Never again. read more

Short story: I think they are very thorough, but you might be treated with condescension and impatience. They will do more than you ask for, which may annoy or may delight, depending on your personal values. They may be slightly over-priced. Long story: take a look at Jennifer's review from 3 months ago. Matt responded to that review saying, "I never intended to be dismissive.." Maybe he doesn't realize it. Matt talked down to me in several conversations about my car. He likes to give his credentials, and expound on his extensive experience, and he will be impatient, short, and didactic. He will dismiss your thoughts. It's hard to get a word in edgewise. One may say that this is less important if they give top notch service. I myself will tolerate poor treatment of customers if that is the case. It does make it more difficult though, to build trust, if you treat customers with impatience and condescension. I had a failing battery and wanted to know if the alternator and starter were failing as well. I had to push to get those answers, and actually I still don't know about the starter. Allen at O'Reilly auto parts on West 3rd street was much more friendly and just as knowledgeable, if not more so, than Matt. I could have gotten better service there with better treatment, for $60 less, and gotten a 4-year warranty instead of the 3-year warranty I got with Advanced Auto Care. As with other customers, they also did work that I didn't ask for. Maybe that's a good thing. They want to sell me four new tires. I don't trust them. Maybe they deserve my trust. You have to decide if I'm too paranoid, or if there is something lacking with this group, but I don't think I will be returning. read more

We found ourselves in Bloomington, visiting family, and the overly - fancy headlight on my car went out. Not great, considering Bloomington's dark streets, and the fact that we were continuing our trip. I found Advanced Auto Care based on their Yelp reviews, and I'm happy to leave them an excellent review. They were able to get me in the same day, knew the problem with my car, and how to replace it, and we're also able to give me an oil change in the same amount of time. They called before they did the work to say that on my car the bumper has to be taken off to replace the headlight, which I know to be true because my local mechanic has pointed this out to me, showing me this odd arrangement, and I know it to be the case. They did good work quickly, treated an out-of-town person, well, and seem to run a very efficient operation. They even have free Cokes in the refrigerator in the waiting room. Everything you want in a business - friendly, quick, and fair. Happy to recommend. read more

They tried to cheat me and did to an extent. I paid $90 for an inspection that included telling me I have rust on my truck as if I couldn't see it. They didn't even fix the squeaking coming from my serpentine belt or the vacuum leak. They tried to tell me I needed new rear brakes which was a flat out lie. I recently replaced my parking brake and I looked at my rear brakes. They don't need replacing. They walked back that comment. They told me my air pump needs replacing but I installed that air pump myself. The reason it went bad was because an engine check valve went bad. So they're going to replace the air pump without figuring out why it went bad? The mechanic said he hadn't "dug that into it". The air pump doesn't even need replacing. They also went snooping around in my truck camper shell. I know because I have a curtain in the rear window which can't be moved without forcing a wire free and it was unhinged. They basically did nothing and kept my truck in their garage for about 2 hours so they could charge me more. I took my truck to Will's in Spencer. Turns out my alternator was making the squeaking. I bought a new one, a new serpentine belt and tensioner. Will charged me $90 and they only took about 30 minutes. Advanced Auto Care are a bunch of crooks and liars. Anybody that says different doesn't know about engines. read more

Our son is a student at Indiana University, and it would have been very easy for this business to exploit his inexperience. We dealt with Dave and Jack remotely. Absolutely professional. They were very patient, thorough, picked our son up at school and explained everything to his parents to our satisfaction. Excellent company! I cannot recommend them highly enough. From the very get-go they showed a great level of professionalism and care. They listened carefully to my specific needs and gave me the best options (for me!). They do truly put customer's interest at front and clearly explain the issue/s, trouble/s with the car in understandable terms. After I dropped the car at their location and was unable to find a taxi, Dave, was so kind to offer me a ride home himself (that's what I call excellent customer service!) Prior to my visit to Advanced Auto Care, I took my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis for an oil change to the dealer in Bloomington and they found that it needed about $6,000 (!) in repairs to make the car "safe to be on the road". Advance Auto Care educated me on what was actually wrong with the car and helped me to decide the repairs needed to make it safe. Long story short, Advance Auto Care made the major, absolute repairs needed to make the car safe for less than $1,000 (and in 2 and a half days!) I was, and still am, very pleased with their quality and work ethics. Very honest, cordial, and fair (price) company. No doubt, from now on, they will be "my mechanics" of choice. (I'm telling everyone one I know, who is looking for a good garage, about them). read more
