I have worked extensively with contractors in Southeast Ohio over the past 10 years, and have generally had terrible experiences. They are largely unprofessional, they don't finish the job on time (or they don't finish it at all), they aren't conscientious, they don't communicate with you, they often try to overcharge and in general they have left me with a bad impression of contractors. Mike and Camilla Butcher showed me that there are still contactors out there who are professional, honest, conscientious and truly care about getting the job done right. Mike promptly offered a reasonably-priced bid, had a crew out within days, checked in with me everyday to make sure I was OK with the work that was being done, and promptly resolved any issues that I identified. His foreman, John, and his crew were courteous, hard working and highly skilled. They showed up on time and got the job done right the first time. As a former business owner and a current business professor, I have a pretty good grasp of what professionalism looks like, and J&M epitomizes it. In turn, this caused drywall to be delivered during bad weather. They busted two sheets unloading it and had further was further delayed because it had to dry out. The owner demanded start times be moved (the two days they showed up to work) earlier but showed up late. Furthermore, the second (and last day) they showed up, the owner was rude and demeaning in his correspondence. When I asked for a meeting or a phone conversation, he refused to speak with me; instead, he sent had his office manager speak with me. In their hurry to leave my house, we found that they had taken a mini-scaffolding that did not belong to them, though it was returned. They also damaged a light that I had to order a complete set to replace. Additionally, the owner refused to give receipts so I could return the excess material he ordered and would not provide an itemized list for meager return. I waited a few months for less than four hours of work, several headaches, and a terrible impression of this company. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for a reputable contractor.
