After a brief consultation at the shop, I went with their 3M Ceramic IR film - 15% for all sides, rear windows & sunroof and 35% front windshield. At first, I wanted to black out my front windshield. However, I occasionally have to place a handicap placard on my rear view mirror when transporting certain family members. Danny strongly recommended that I go with a light enough film to be still able to see the placard when displayed, obviously for legal reasons. Thanks Danny for the recommendation! Danny initially mentioned that it would take about 4 hrs but they got me out very quickly in just a couple. Lastly, at the completion, he made sure to let me know about little details like to not open my windows for the next 2 days to let the film settle and also that I may notice some streaking/air bubble-like appearances on the films which will ultimately disappear. My kids and I will run the air rarely, only on the hottest of days/nights or mostly sleep downstairs half naked when we want to have a lower utility bill or save the planet. I was talking to my friend who owns a large commercial building about saving money, going solar, etc. He told me he was tinting thousands of square feet of his windows because of the energy savings and short time frame for a significant return on his investment. He referred me to R|C who is now helping homeowners and residential customers achieve similar savings! R|C returned my call promptly and basically answered all of my questions as well as gave me an easy to understand tutorial about window films. I didn't know the type of film and the type of glass need to be considered for not only the highest energy savings but also for safety reasons. Too many people consider the darkness of the tint but not the properties of the tint. If you put the wrong type of tint on the windows the heat can't dissipate properly and the window can crack. Some tints are more reflective than others and some tints are clear but reject more heat so it won't alter one's beautiful view! The installer came out to my house and was very punctual. He had all of the tools and didn't require anything of me to get started. Sometimes people want to use the bathroom, get a drink of water, plug in their equipment using your extension cords, etc. R|C was self contained, locked, cocked and ready to rock! This dude looked like Picasso/Bruce Lee/80's break dancer as he bobbed and weaved, washing and scrubbing the glass! After getting it ready he applied the tint with painstaking detail given the large arch window he was working on. All in all I probably had 11 windows tinted that face the sun. It probably took him @ 3 hours to do them all. My french doors were a bit of a bear but he was good natured through it all. I'm. A big fan of being meticulous and so is R|C. As he said, "you look out of your windows everyday. If I use the wrong film or apply it incorrectly you'll see it and then your talk about it so it behooves me to do it right the first time." Wise words my friend. At the end of the day my house feels 10-15 degrees cooler! My electricity bill is lower and I have a little more privacy given the level of exterior reflectivity. He got here, was able to get the identified windows tinted pretty quickly (maybe only 3 or so hours?) for about 30 panels. The windows still let all the natural light in - just without a whole lot of the heat that comes with it. Which, is a heavensend during the summer. Even when a crease and a couple of very small bubbles developed, I reached out to Andrew and he was out the next day, promptly, and got everything knocked out in about 30 minutes. Hunter Douglas Roller Shades - Measurement Issues…read more We have owned Hunter Douglas shades in multiple homes and have always liked the quality of the products. This review is not about the shades themselves, but about the measurement and installation. We had previously worked with San Diego Shades and had a great experience, which makes this outcome especially disappointing. This time, instead of their technician, they sent the sales rep to do the measurements. All of the shades installed in our home were measured and cut slightly too small, leaving the wooden window frames visible on the sides when the shades are fully closed. While this may sound minor, it affects both the look and function of the shades. The issue is most noticeable in our bedroom, where we installed motorized room-darkening roller shades. Light still comes through the sides, which defeats the purpose of a room-darkening shade. I raised my concerns right after the upstairs bedroom installations, but the issue was dismissed with an explanation that didn't address the problem and did not and does not make sense. At the time, we were in the middle of multiple home projects, and I assumed I would eventually get used to them. I didn't -- and it continues to bother me every time I see them. When the downstairs shades were installed and had the same issue, I escalated the concern to a supervisor, and two of the cheaper shades were eventually replaced. Unfortunately, the bedroom shades were never corrected. Even now, the measurement issue is noticeable and frustrating. For a professional installation, I expected better attention to detail and follow-through. My advice: carefully review measurements and finished results before signing off.
