My husky was bleeding from her bum. We didnt want to push waiting until the morning (it was around 9pm) we had checked a few other pet ER places. Advanced Medical was the only one willing to check her before deciding when she needed to be seen. My poor husky hated all that was happening but they treated her really well. She ended up having a anal gland infection/rupture. They cleaned her bum and gave us the meds she needed and told us how to take care of her and what to do next. Our Charlie pup of 11 years, who'd never had a sick day in his life, went from a typical great doggie day to an emergency in the space of about three hours. To make a long story much shorter, we rushed him here. A saint of a man (there for his own pet) rushed out to carry Charlie in...running alongside the three staff who came outside as well. They did all they could, but our Charlie didn't make it. The compassion shown to my son and I was incredible. I can't say enough good about the love and care that goes into helping our beloved furry family members. They cried alongside of us. The staff was very friendly and they took me right in as my dog was having breathing difficulties. They took me to a back room and I didn't see anyone for two hours. When the vet came in the only diagnostic test they had done was a chest x-ray and he said her breathing was due to a stomach ache. I insisted on more diagnostic test, which took another two hours just to run blood test. The vet prescribed four completely useless medication's. They sent me out to the waiting room where I spent another 30 minutes just waiting to see my dog and get the medication's so I could leave. This all cost me $1200 for a chest x-ray and bloodwork and for useless drugs. I would never go to this veterinarian care facility again they will rob you blind and I really feel like they didn't know by they I mean the doctor was clueless read more

They saved my dogs life. She had an ulcer on her spleen that ruptured and she was bleeding internally. Once we brought her home, her recovery was slow at first and every time I had a question, no matter what time it was, they answered the phone and assured me I wasn't being a spazz. I brought my cat in twice for a urinary obstruction and both times we received amazing care. He had never had any health problems before and all their staff and the vets who worked with him were so compassionate and made an effort to explain everything to me including possible causes, everything they needed to do to help him, aftercare instructions, options for managing the condition, and his prognosis. He had to stay overnight both times and the staff was very communicative with me, gave me regular updates, and answered all my questions. When he ended up needing surgery they readily recommended an outside clinic to help keep costs down. He is anxious and doesn't do well at the vet and everyone was very understanding when interacting with him. They saved his life twice and gave me great education on strategies for managing his anxiety. I wish it was an experience we did not have to have, but I have only good things to say about the clinic and am so grateful for the care and help they gave during that time. It was expensive but that is the nature of vet care. I recommend pet insurance to everyone! read more

My review is really a 4.5 star review. Came here Sunday evening because our chocolate Lab was bitten at his daycare. We called first and was told to bring him in and that the current wait was 4 hours. My only "complaint" was that when we arrived no one at the front desk seemed to know who we were and that we were confirmed to bring our Lab in. We were seen right away by the triage nurse. Told what the process would be. Given an estimate of the costs and that the ER Dr would see our pup within 4 hours. We were pleasantly surprised that the ER Dr called 2 hours later. Dr. Williams was very thorough and explained everything in detail. The nurse who we picked up Dodger from was also very clear on the aftercare instructions. AVC made a very stressful situation with our pup more bearable. We hope we never need ER services again, but would come here again if we need to. We appreciate how busy and in demand their services are - yet we were treated professionally, efficiently and with care. read more

Unfortunately, I've had to take my "problem child" Gunner, a crazy AustralianShepherd, there twice. The first time was when he and his best friend, a black lab named Tahja, knocked a glass pan of brownies off the counter, and proceeded to eat the entire thing glass and all! I was in a panic when I took him in, but they immediately reassured me and took him back to start him on fluids. Turned out he did have a bunch of glass in his stomach and needed to have it removed via surgery. Fortunately, I have excellent pet insurance (Healthy Paws) and was able to get his surgery and two night hospital stay, without any financial concerns or concerns about the care, he was receiving. The second time my Ausshole needed emergency service, he had eaten a full cooked chicken, bones and all (Yes he is a true Ausshole)! They were once again extremely friendly and helpful and took amazing care of Gunner. If you are ever in need of emergency vet services, AVC is absolutely the place to go! read more

I've been to too Advanced Vet Care several times over the years and the service and staff have always been nice. However, last month after making the agonizing decision it was time for the next journey for my 16 yr soul mate, we received such horrible treatment. My little fur baby girl was screaming in pain and it took them over 20 minutes to get someone to see her in a room. I had to ask numerous times, given no explanation or estimated time. I know they can be very busy, but when I asked about the priority triage they said they will take a look. After the techs prepped her and Dr Tara Erickson came in, she didn't say anything, except, "are you ready", completed the procedure and left the room. NOT one word of kindness or empathy. They made one of the most difficult things I've been through even worse. read more

Worlds cannot express the poor taste and callous behavior of the individuals who run this establishment. My cat had a $1900 CT scan at this clinic for a suspected tumor. They EMAILED me the results the next day and didn't bother to call me to discuss. I had to read the email to find out that my cat has a large malignant tumor in his head. I was traumatized and called the front desk, only to be told that I couldn't speak with one of their vets about the results of the scan UNLESS I came in-person and paid for a consultation. After speaking to the practice manager, Christy Clark, about my concerns, I was told that nothing could be done to rectify the situation. I asked for her manager, and she told me she doesn't have one. That is a total lie. When you work for the man, you always have a boss! I emailed the results of the CT scan to another vet in the valley, and he called me after business hours to discuss and provide a recommendation for next steps. Dont take your animals here. They are trying to pump people in & out as fast as they can, without even listening to you. I took my dog in for profuse vomiting, they didn't even listen to me and what was wrong with my poor dog.. and stated they were checking him for hard swallowing in his discharge papers... They said they would get me the discharge papers when I left, so I could go get my dog the medication he needs and they emailed it to me over 24 hours later... They were also trying to push X-rays on my dog before even examining him, & lied to me about the exam fees. There was one staff member, who was extremely nice and attentive. However, the rest of the staff were super dismissive towards me, when talking about what was wrong with my dog and even after thanking them for being kind. This is really a 4.75 star review; very heavily could of been a 5 star had a few things been worked out in advance. The staff overall were very polite, personable and easy to work with. I noticed a sign explaining to people to not threaten staff & I immediately thought; how could anyone be rude to these folks? We had taken our almost 2 yo pitbull here over the weekend after being turned away by another facility. AVC was great to communicate their processes for intake, wait times and how cost works. I didn't feel as if we ever felt rushed once to make a decision about the care for our pup & like they were just doing certain things to be able to bill. Both doctors that we worked with - the overnight and the critical care day time were informative and had great "bedside" manner for even a pup in the hospital. Rose was amazing at sitting down to discuss billing with us, was great at reading the room & offering to step out to give us time to decide how we wanted to move forward. I never once felt pressured to do all the things they proposed as treatment options & to make a decision right in the moment. Rose told us she left GP vet care to go to ER vet care and she is exactly the type of person who should be in this environment. To the drawbacks - which are very few. Our boy was treated for some GI issues and we knew he still would have some diarrhea. However what we weren't aware of is how dirty he would be from this. When we picked him up after discharge he had been covered in his own feces & smelt awful. We were aware of course he had diarrhea still and would, the staff had been great at communicating that; we just wish there would of been a bit of awareness on their end so he could maybe have been cleaned up. Ashley was truly amazing though to try and help with that as soon as I had noticed before we took him home. She took the time honestly to wipe his whole back area which was beyond kind. The only other drawback is our discharge papers with feeding were a bit confusing. However when we called for clarification the team was amazing to talk with us and again never once made us feel rushed to get off the phone. There is a chance as well a lot of this could of been that our schedule didn't align with the discharging team & they called us to go over everything on the phone to accommodate our schedule with pickup. read more

So, about a week ago, my baby boy decided to get into a gallon bag of something that he shouldn't have. When I initially called, they were super helpful, super calming, handled me well (while I was freaking out). I brought him in and they instantly took him before they even took payment from me. That definitely eased my nerves. They consulted me on everything, let me know costs and their recommendations. Loki probably shouldn't be alive right now but they took such great care of my boy! He ended up staying with them for 2 nights, they always answered and gave me an update every time I called (about 8 times a day, ha). They were very professional, caring, and just awesome! I am extremely disappointed with this Advanced Veterinary Care. I have reached out to them multiple times with no response. I really wanted to discuss the issues that we had. It speaks volumes that no one from the Millcreek office or the parent company in San Antonio, Texas would return my phone calls. This was a simple one question request about our dog's medication. We did like Dr. Tsimbas, and I am still waiting for a phone call from her. We now are going to MedVet in Salt Lake City; Dr. Katie Wright is now caring for Murphy. So far Dr. Wright and MedVet have been 100 times better. I hope this update helps readers to decide on where to go. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! I will never bring an animal here again. They will not care for your pet and they will milk you for as much money as they can. We brought our dog here after she was hit by a car. They first told us we would need to pay just over $400 for the necessary tests to take care of her and had us sign for that. Then we were taken into a separate room where we were told there would be a $1,000 minimum. I asked what this paid for. When shown the list, there were unnecessary tests that they tried charging us for. I requested that they be removed and that took our total down to just under $800. After a 3 hour wait, they took x-rays and said they could not tell if she had a collapsed lung, or if it was full of blood, or just severely bruised, but they said either way, she should be able to heal herself and wanted to monitor her overnight. This was going to cost us $2,800. We specifically asked if there was a procedure or surgery they could do to help her. We were told no. The next day, they said she was getting worse and they needed to monitor her for 24 to 48 hours more. They quoted us between $4,500 to $7,500 for this. We did not have the money to pay this and were forced to make the hard decision to have our dog discharged. At the time of discharge, I asked again if they were sure that there was nothing else they could do for her, like a surgery or a procedure. They said no, that she just needed to be monitored. Our dog was only getting worse so we decided to get a second opinion. We went to a different vet clinic. Within 20 minutes we were told that she did have a collapsed lung and that is something that would never heal itself. They took her in for immediate surgery, drained 110cc of blood from her lung, reinflated it, and fixed an internal hernia next to her lung cavity. They kept her overnight and sent her home the next morning and only charged my $500 from the time we walked in the door to the time we left. Our dog would have died if we wouldn't have taken her somewhere else. And this clinic would have continued to charge us thousands of dollars to do nothing for our dog while she slowly died. It is nearly impossible to communicate with the manager, Alissa. After almost a month, I finally got an email back saying that they did do wrong by us, but they would only refund us 20% of our money. In my opinion this is unacceptable and they should be investigated. I want to know how many other families have been devastated by this clinics lack of expertise and integrity. read more

I've spent over $10,000 at this place over the years for different dogs and cats but they have never been very accommodating or helpful. They have been really expensive. This review is not a reflection of our experience with AVC as a whole, but just on one vet: the technicians have all been wonderful. My dog, Mollie, was diagnosed with Addison's Disease at an emergency vet clinic in March and it was recommended that we transfer her care to AVC. We did so and she was placed under Dr. Kuhlman. Dr. Kuhlman has consistently ignored my concerns regarding Mollie's condition, treatment, and care. I've only spoken to Kuhlman once; all other correspondence were done through technicians. I could even hear Kuhlman telling them what to say to me several times in the background, but he still wouldn't speak to me. When I said Mollie was experiencing some side effects due to the dose of prednisone she was on, I was told she was on a "standard" dose and that he wouldn't lower it further. Standard treatment for Addison's disease is frequent electrolyte tests within the first 6-12 months to ensure that levels are balanced and that the dog doesn't receive medication before they need it. Getting Kuhlman to let me schedule electolyte appointments was like pulling teeth. After her last electolyte appointment, Kuhlman said (via a technician) "see you in a year" and I wasn't allowed to schedule amy additional. In addition, none of my concerns were noted in her chart (which I requested for my records), just things like "owner says pt is doing well at home". Dr. Kuhlman's care was inadequate, bordering on negligent. And, for your info Dr. Kuhlman, I took Mollie to another clinic today who checked her electrolytes and they were a MESS. If I had given her her Zycortal injection like you wanted me to next Monday with no electrolyte check, it would have made her super sick. I'm BEYOND angry. read more

They got us in that day, which our regular Vet could not. They allowed us to wait in the privacy and comfort of our car, it was a bit of a wait but there were other animals in pretty bad shape coming in. They also have paper bowls and water available in the front lobby. They did everything they could do for our lil guy and were very up front about the costs. From the moment I called in about my daughter and son's four month old Teacup Yorkie Roo being ill they were wonderful. I brought her in late Friday night and left with her looking a bit more energized and alert. Originally I brought her in for throwing up and diarrhea. I wasn't sure which she was actually doing, because I walked into little piles of what looked like a combo of each of all throughout the house. They tested her for parvovirus as she had only her second round of boosters. Tests came back negative. I was instructed to take her home but if she threw up again or stayed the same to bring her back in immediately for x-rays and intestinal tests. Over the next course of days I actually believed she was getting better with the anti-biotic prescribed from the hot Dr., or at least I wanted to believe that. She truly had very small spurts of energy and the rest of the time she was very lymph but drinking water and she didn't throw up. I noticed she wasn't getting worse, but she certainly wasn't steadily getting better. So today 3/20/ 19 I took her back in realizing that I wanted to believe and see only what I wanted to see her as. A healthy thriving, energetic, loving, thriving puppy! And oh with attitude too! That was around 1 am this morning. Again from the time I entered until the time I left the staff was exceptional. I went straight into a room, and spoke with the tech. And then the Vet came in who was this beautiful female Dr. and my first visit was a beautiful male Dr. making the news much easier somehow, or just their compelling nature. They were both exceptional and very professional and both techs were so knowledgeable. The first tech with the male Dr. being more empathetic and the second one being less sensitive but kind and caring with the female Dr. Little Roo didn't come home with me today. The female vet said she was almost 100% sure Roo had eaten an object that got caught in her intestines based on all the tests performed and her low white blood cells and an ultrasound that saw fluid. She stated she would need a surgery and of course it would be very expensive and she wasn't 100% if that would save her with her being so weak and young. I had to make the decision to euthanize her today. The Vet gave me antibiotic options as well, but I wanted to her to paint a realistic picture which I as a single mother needed to know. As I clearly don't have the funds for surgery and didn't want to give my children false hope, and have them experience a greater loss. So I made the decision to put Roo down. My kids at this very moment still have no idea, I am on my way to pick them up. The Dr. even softly guided me as what choice to make as far as being in the room with her and truthfully not being able to try to still go into work. So for me this staff, who by the way was just so caring, right down to the amazing coffee talk. In my opinion went above and beyond. I want to thank them for making the second hardest decision in 2019 easier. Two weeks prior we had to put our little Flo, our guinea pig down too. We will be stronger from all of this, but it is certainly helpful to be at a Vet emergency with staff and Dr's that still have emotions and aren't all about the money. I've been taking my dogs to VCA for many years during bee stings, tummy aches, and Foxtails. VCA has always taken excellent care of our dogs and been extremely kind to us. We recently took our dog Regina there and had mix up with her treatment. It was insignificant and our dog is fine now, but VCA did an excellent job addressing the situation and making us feel like our dog matters to them. Thank you Kendra and Ann! Just don't bother. They used to be a good clinic but for the past couple of years they have gone down hill. They have extremely long waits and immediately try to turn you away. 2 yrs ago when I was pregnant my cat was sick (she's elderly and has flare ups that can be scary) they said 2-3 hours (mind you it's 1 am) so we sit in our car and wait. Then 2 hours later they come out and say we won't be able to see her at all tonight. It's just so rude. Then my dog got bit by another dog I called first this time and they were like we have a 4 hour wait and suggested I go somewhere else. I ended up going to mountain west veterinary hospital in Layton who took her in right away and stiched her up. They even let you go home and call you when your pet is really so you don't have to wait. Then this last time (9am Saturday morning) my cat was peeing pus drops at a time. I brought her in and they said she's not urgent so it'll be 4-6 hours. Then they suggested I try some other places that might be cheaper (I wasn't even concerned about the cost) and even suggested I wait till Monday to go to her normal vet... was I suposed to let her suffer all weekend peeing pus??? So I remembered how well mountain west did with my dog so we drove to Layton again they saw her right away and it ended up being a very severe UTI with blood and tons of bacteria in her bladder and they said it's wouldn't have been good to wait till Monday. My point is this place doesn't care about your pet doesn't try to make the wait easy on you and lacks compassion. If you are willing to make the drive just go to mountain west in Layton and you'll be treated so much better and your pets will be better off too! read more

They gave me a price for the surgery and off he went, but not only did they not inform me of how low his chances of survival were, they also messed up the bill. And now they're threatening to send collection agencies after they doubled the medical bill for my dog who didn't survive. I paid up front, have no more savings, asked for help from family and still I end up with an outstanding bill and no dog. The people here prey on and take advantage of people in tough situations.
