This is a new Dermatology Office. They are centrally located in San Marco. They're across the street from V-Pizza/SideCar. I easily found a great parking space. They're located in the second floor. What a beautiful building inside! They have virtual aquariums everywhere, beautiful hanging lights, and other decor that is very impressive. I was checked in by a very nice lady. My wait was not long at all. The Nurse came in and got some info from me, then went to get the Physician Attendant. Both ladies were nice and knowledgeable. I had to have three growths on my face frozen and one on my scalp. Then a strange growth in my thigh. She decided to remove it and send it out for a biopsy. Better to be safe, than sorry. I got to feeling lightheaded and sick before she removed the growth. The sweet Nurse rushed to get me some water and crackers. I was pretty nervous. After five minutes, I felt better. Then the removal and check out. The whole experience was extraordinary. I do not remember their names. They were much appreciated. I have to go back for a recheck in a few weeks. Incompetence at it's finest! Avoid this office at all costs and go to the Neptune Beach location. I was prepped and ready for my procedure when some crazed 'housewife' came in and said they could not do my procedure they needed more films. Why were my reports not looked at until I was prepped and ready to go??!! 5 people in the room with me and not one introduction. This deranged woman had to be restrained twice by employees, my husband was made to help the assistant. This place is madness! It took months to get the proper required forms and reports sent to my Ins Co and other referral places delaying my procedure for 4 months! I checked in 5 minutes prior to my early morning appt- Good I looked around the lobby, only 2 people waiting- Good I was called and escorted to an exam room within 5 minutes of sitting down in the lobby- Good I sat there in the small, cold room on a hard exam table for 20 minutes- Not so Good At the 20 minute mark an MA finally came in, confirmed the reason for my visit, then handed me a gown to put on for the screening- Maybe Good? But I sat waiting, in the gown, in the small cold room on a hard exam table, for 30 MORE MINUTES!-- Really Not Good! I took off the gown, got dressed, walked out of the small,cold room with a hard exam table and in the hallway there was a cluster of staff (4) including the MA who had come in 30 minutes prior. Told him I had been waiting 50 minutes and was leaving. His reply, "Can you wait just 3 more minutes?" Really?... No! (didn't believe nor trust him at that point). There was no apology- no rationale- the other 3 staffers just looked down at charts/phones- BAD! I went to the reception desk (3 staff there) - told the person who I had checked in with that I had waited 50 minutes in the exam room and had not been seen by anyone, so not to bill me for the appointment. His response, "would you like to reschedule?"-- BAD AGAIN! No sincerity, no apology, no AI bot text asking how my appt went, no follow-up phone call from a manager/or Dr Perez even, if there were a true culture of customer service present. BAD, BAD, BAD.... I visited Advance Dermatology two years ago for bumps on my skin, and back then, everything was great with the doctor I had. However, this time was extremely disappointing. A month ago, I paid for a full exam because of a bump on my arm. They told me I needed an ultrasound, which I did at a separate clinic. Today, my follow-up was at 2:20 p.m. I arrived before 2:00 p.m. and waited almost an hour to be seen. The nurse saw me around 2:50, and the doctor around 3:20. After all that, the doctor said they couldn't do anything and I needed a surgeon since the ultrasound results were not clear. I paid for two full appointments just to be told 'go find a surgeon' with no guidance. When I asked which surgeon, they just said to Google one. I wasted time and money for no answers. I've been going to this location for 10+ years when it was owned and operated by another doctor (and the business had another name). I used to see the doctor almost every time. Since the change in name and management I only see the doctor when I have a MOHS surgery. The past few years I've been seeing one of the PAs (Physician Assistant). They have been very good but the last visit I was scheduled to see my PA but I was seen by a nurse practitioner - this was after the office canceling my appointment and making me call to reschedule because the PA was out of office at the time of my original appointment. We went one time used to a dermatologist. That first time for both me and my wife was not a good experience at that place! The doctor was like in his 80's and when he was cutting off a spot on my ear I noticed his hands were shaking; scary stuff. Advanced Dermatology on Nira Street was the best! My wife and I love our new dermatologist. Sara Amarillo was the doctor that saw me and she was very friendly and easy to talk too. They found one spot on my back and had to cut it off for biopsy. I had an appointment today at 10:15am and I waited an hour and half before even being seen for Mohs surgery on 3 spots, I went to the room at 11:45am they started prepping me for surgery and the PA stated I haven't been there in a couple of months did I have any spots, I said no, he found and sprayed 5 spots might be more and said I needed 3 more biopsies, I got the 3 painful shots and waited. At 12:30 I opened the door and there was no one out there and no one to be found (Probably all at lunch, I didn't get lunch just sat and waited, which I thought I was very patient about 5 minutes later I saw an attendant and said, I have been waiting 2 and half hours and my shots have worn off, and I didn't even have my surgery yet. The PA comes in gives me 3 more painful shots and then takes the biopsies, burns them and leaves (less then 5 minutes). I told them I was allergic to adhesive, and they put band aid on my sports any way. Then the attendant said, your next and the doctor will be right in. Perez walks in and says how it is going; I started to speak, and he stands in front of me with his EYES CLOSED and lectures me about if he has to take time out to talk to me, that leaves less time with other patients and then you want to be seen, I said OK, are you going to do my surgery or not, he said, no you can leave. I have never met a (so call doctor treat anyone like he treated me), he acted like a 5 year not even looking at me when he speaks. My phone was dead and when I got home, I had a message from Advantage Dermatology at 12:30 thanking me for coming in and asked to leave a rating on my experience he gets ZERO! Perez was the worst person who says he's a doctor but did not act like one. They forgot about me, and he didn't want to hear it. Also, he is the only doctor and waiting 2 hours and not being seen for your appointment is one thing, but with only one doctor and setting up appointments every 15 minutes is not my fault, it is there's. My time is as valuable as his time. Perez you need to get some help for your behavior you acted like a child. Worst experience from any doctor! read more

Let me start by saying I like the Staff here, I Like the comfort feeling although the Front Desk is manned by Lovely Ladies they could be warmer in their greeting, Not that they are cold just saying WARMER, if you know what I mean. They work together well front and back of the house they try to keep you informed..If you notice I stated try..LOL. So In my case Squamous Cell on my left front temple, Go in Biopsy come back a week later for removal. Doc sits you down draws a small circle around the area being removed and shows you the picture...So far so good, Well it goes across the hall 4hours later comes back they have it all and the moment the information stopped was at this point. We got it all and I will send in PA to suture you up, So I have a little hole about 3/16" in Diameter one, Maybe 2 stitches. Sitting calmly when they say lets get you sutured up, put over a Sterile curtain numb me up and start with a pair of scissors cutting a a much larger area out of my forehead ended up some where between 1-2" total...Slightly Surprised and Shocked when my ear filled with blood. Then come to find out they will not be removing another spot from my back as I was told when the appointment was made. So when I came in for the check up a week later another $40 for the second spot. Ah Ha no wonder they only did one so they can hit you up each and every time even for your check up with your Copay. Again poor communication and keep in mind in the 21st century Electronic generation they will have you fill out a status form on your health even though you filled it out a week earlier. The young lady in the back when I approached her said we don't have you information back her it is on the computer in the front area. (approximately 10 ft away.) All this signing and showing you all these fancy I-pad Devices and they can not pull up your history from a week ago? Weird The other item is that my PA (Exam) and he asst. kept saying you have doctor Perez, you are in good Hands with Doctor POerez, If I was going to have someone do my Sx, it would be Doc Perez because he is very good a make the wounds almost unnoticiable, well then his PA assistant (Not the same one that did my exam) did the closing and margin removal, I have a scar, not bad but I can only wonder had the WONDERFUL Dr. Perez completed my Sx the way the original PA stated would it have been less noticible? Also just FYI when they point out the sixe of your blemish KNOW that the removal when be much larger and removed with scissors..LMAO So North Florida Derm does have an Up on them in that they Discovered, Excised, sent to the Lab and came back in a sutured me all in the same day for the one time co-pay. But as our fellow Yelp placed on his YELP comment for them, his picture motivated me to this place. So again, Over all I Like Academy, but.....they could improve. read more

Absolutely horrible please do not go to this office. After waiting 4 1/2 hours to see the doctor, I had a surgical procedure on Tuesday to remove a pea size area. I left with a 1 inch hole in my forehead bandaged up. I w was scheduled to come back and get stitches on Thursday. My Forehead was too swollen on Tuesday for them to close the wound. On Thursday I waited 3 1/2 hours for the doctor to come in only for him to tell me that he thought maybe I should be referred out to a plastic surgeon. The only plastic surgeons in my network of insurance are over two hours away from Jacksonville. I was sent home with the wound open and a small bandage over it. I have been waiting all day for someone to call me back. They finally did and said the first appointment they could get with the plastic surgeon was in two weeks. I have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and i'm at risk for getting infections easily. Not only will I have to go around for a week with a hole in my forehead, but I'm unable to wash my hair or face. When I called back to speak with the administrator today, she was incredibly rude. Put me on hold for 20 minutes and came back and said someone would call me back. This is the best practice my 84 year old dad has ever been to. He was checked from head to toe and had lots of places frozen with a follow up in a month. Sara the PA and Morgan her assistant were awesome in bedside manner and just jovial. They gave detailed verbal and written instructions regarding aftercare. They addressed all aspects of his skin not just the cancer. Billboards in the office were encouraging, insightful and set the tone for a coordinated cooperative plan. This is a bi-lingual office. Terrible! They do not explain what to expect with follow ups. One appointment I waited in the waiting room for an hour and another 30 minutes in the exam room before I was seen for a 5 minute wound check. Had MOHS surgery and was left in a waiting area for hours without being acknowledge or told how long it would be before results. At one appointment the nurse or tech or whatever she was asked me (while holding my chart in her hand) if I had other spots that needed to be removed. Wouldn't that be something you should be telling me?? Then, out of the blue I get a letter telling me that it is their final attempt to get me to make an appointment to have a particular spot removed. Final attempt? I was there practically weekly for follow up from my first surgery and they never tried to have me make an appointment until what turned out to be my last appointment. They said someone would call me to schedule the next surgery which they did. As I was making the appointment I asked which spot this was for and the person told me the doctor would decide that at my appointment. So how do they know I hadn't made an appointment for the specific spot the letter indicated? At any rate, I already had an appointment when the letter arrived more than a week after the appointment had been made. I lost all confidence in this practice at this point. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing! And now, to top it all off, my new doctor requested my records over a week ago and they have not complied. I have been coming to Advantage Dermatology for a couple years now. I've had nothing but drummer and problems here. They're constantly losing my blood work that is faxed here from my doctor. They've already lost two of my Stellaris shots they couldn't find them. Now it's been going on for a month I gave them my new blood work and now they wanted a letter from my doctor which had to be in writing they got that never called me I am over a month late for my stellar injection and this place is nothing but a clown show. I'm an independent rep and called in to get some more information about the office, to see if they would be a good candidate for the Membrane Program that I have available. Kira is who answered the phone. I asked a few questions and she wasn't able to answer. To all my friends in JAX. I will avoid Advantage Dermatology on Nira St in San Marco at all costs after a very painful experience with a PA named Janice White who carried out a medical procedure on my head without my consent and certainly no consultation. She just started shooting a Nitrogen gun all over my head (see photo) and when I recoiled in horror she walked around and did it more. I told her about her mistake and she blamed intake staff. She still should've taken the time to consult me before damaging my skin and causing me pain. She then said that I needed to wait until she sees her other patients before she could get to to me regarding my original need for the appt. I felt violated by a medical professional that I'm supposed to trust. I felt that she no longer cared for my well being or time so I attempted to leave and report her to her office mgr. The office mgr would not take my statement and no apologies from any staff member. After leaving I called back several times and left messages for Heber Paulin whom I'm told by receptionist would call me back. He never did! I suspect now they/he never will. DON'T USE THIS PROVIDER. Go literally anywhere else and you will have better luck. If given the option between this office or a hobo with a switch blade in an alley, the hobo would be more likely to bill you correctly, not cancel your appointment or speak to you like you're an idiot. I've had ALL the horrible things happen here. It all started when the provider failed to give me lab orders I didn't know I needed after a yearly skin check. No worries. Stuff happens. When I needed the medication refill, it couldn't be refilled without the labs she didn't tell me I needed or give me orders for. So, I called to have the labs emailed to me so I could have them done and was told that's a HIPAA violation so I would have to make another appointment, which I did. Went in, paid another copay, got the lab orders. Went to the lab, had labs done. One of the samples somehow disintegrated so I needed a new order to have it done again. Weird, but ok. Oddly enough, they emailed me to tell me this and included the labs in the email. So it's now not a HIPAA violation. Whatever. Did another set of labs. Now I'm waiting on my prescription refill. And waiting and waiting. Turns out, my doctor was out of the office maternity leave and no one was checking her messages. Yes, that's the answer I was given by someone who finally returned one of my many phone calls after 4 weeks of having the second set of labs done. Then I started getting strange bills from my insurance. Lots of phone calls to my insurance, the lab and this office later turns out the office billed my insurance as if I had bought skin care products they sell (which I didn't) rather than receiving actual medical services and labs that are fully covered by insurance. The office admits it is their error, but it takes 45-60 business days to correct, so my only option is to pay for quite expensive appointments so my credit isn't impacted. Just awesome. Still, I went back. This time to have a minor surgery excision. That was fine. The NP, Josh, was great. The Nurse did put the blood pressure cuff on me at the end, leave the room without starting it for about 30 minutes, came back and asked me what my BP was, then couldn't figure out how to use the machine. Fun. I could also hear providers speaking quite unkindly and irritated to an elderly person in the room next to me. Not cool, but my procedure was good. The follow up appointment was a week later. I was put in a room without a curtain or shades over the window. My incision is on my back and I was told I needed to take my top off, so I asked to go to a different room to change and for a gown. The nurse left to get a gown and I could hear her and another nurse making fun of me for wanting to not change in front of an open window and requesting a gown. I let it go. The nurse came back a long time later and said my lab orders from the excision weren't back yet, but to wait because they were trying to get them. I waited an hour and 20 minutes. No results. So I had to make ANOTHER appointment, take more time off work and pay another copay to get the results. Ridiculous. Those labs indicated I needed further excision. I made the appointment, which has now been canceled on me twice the day before the appointment. I find this odd considering there are signs up all over the office stating you will be charged if you cancel less than 24 hours prior to an appointment. But it's cool if they cancel on you in the same time frame I guess. The whole place is awful. Carlos is some sort of office manager/IT guy/lab liaison and he constantly talks down to you and gives you the list of responsibilities he has around the office. The nurses openly speak unkindly about patients. The providers blame medical assistants and nurses for all issues, including billing. Ive made endless phone calls about my billing issues and everyone who answers the phone is always "sending an email" and calls are never returned. Not sure why the negative reviews for completing paperwork... but we found this office, clean friendly and thorough. First time patient for a cyst and was quite pleased. Was able to print the paperwork and complete the new patient information ahead so our wait time was actually less. We were called back within 10min of our appt time and seen immediately. This procedure was explained and done quickly. Our questions were answered in a professional manner but at a level we could understand.. no medical lingo. Clean waiting office and rooms. I was somewhat apprehensive about visiting the doctor because my experience has been that you wait for a very long time for a snappish doctor shows up for 30 seconds and blows you off. That was not the case here. The front desk staff were pretty nice and they were efficient. The physicians assistant was extremely nice and seemed to know an awful lot. Dr. Bernhardt himself was very nice. The physicians assistant had me prepped up and ready with everything done so when he came in it was fast and painless. He has a warm bedside manner and while he is brisk he is not curt. It seems like he has been doing this for a long time and he really knows the subject matter thoroughly. I was really impressed by the quality of the physicians assistants here not only were they extremely nice but they were extremely knowledgeable. You check in on the first floor on the computer and then go upstairs and they call you from the window. The kiosk on the right is much slower than the kiosk on the left for signing in. Dr. Perez and his team removed cancer from my moms nose, and it's been nothing but problems. They did a flap, and she has had MONTHS of problems. Finally I convinced her to get a second opinion, and she was advised to NEVER let Dr. Perez touch her again. Just to put it in perspective, in the beginning of the process, she told everyone in the office she was allergic to any "Caine" ( novacaine, etc), including the nurse. This place is terrible. Every time I've come for an appointment, I've had to wait for over an hour pr more past my scheduled time to be seen by someone. And it's usually not even the doctor. In addition, they did a full body check for moles. They found one on my chest that was very small. They called and told me I had to get it excised. I came in and asked if I could talk to a plastic surgeon because it was in a very visible and sensitive area. They said, "oh no, it'll be a small incision and will heal up quickly! You'll barely be able to see it. Don't worry!" Their version of a small incision was a two and half inches long down the middle of my chest. It took months to heal, and all they gave my was vaseline for the stitches and no other scar treatment. It was basically a butcher job and they have offered me no other support post surgery. I have since gone to another doctor and they are shocked at what they did to me. I don't plan to return. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. The place looks clean but they call patients inside and make them sit for an hour. Everything is done by PAs. I was scheduled for a surgery being told that Dr Perez will conduct the surgery. When I arrived at 8:00 am for the procedure , I was told that my appointment was cancelled.Surprised I asked the reason and told 15 mins later that the provider ( some name other than Dr. Perez) has called in sick that day. When I asked who that was, I was told that it is a PA. I asked for the doctor and was told he is not in the office. I left since they are fooling people. PAs are for assisting the doctor , NOT for doing procedures on patients in the absence of a doctor. I happen to be a Professor of Biological Sciences , so I know this is not the norm. No going to a place where you are fooled , not to talk about the claim that they have billed to the insurance company for an evaluation done by a PA. Very absurd!! read more

I had a great experience! I got my whole skin checked out and the doctors were able to remove to questionable moles. After doing the biopsy one mole came back completely benign and the other one had an issue, luckily they removed the whole affected side during the biopsy so I didn't have to come in for an extra surgery. Overall, great experience and the staff and doctors were top of the line. Will definitely be coming back in the future for more procedures such as their hair removal and fillers! read more
