As a nurse with 12 years of clinical experience, I could never recommend this hospice care to anyone needing end of life care for a loved one. The case manager knew very little about my father or his medical history, and didn't even know his mobility level despite him already being on hospice services. It was extremely difficult to reach the nurses who actually interacted with him and could speak to his condition. I was repeatedly told I would receive a call back, only to end up calling again myself and asking for a supervisor--who also had never seen my father. The lack of continuity, communication, and direct knowledge of his care was disappointing and added unnecessary stress during an already painful time. read more

Advantage Health Systems Hospice is the best hospice in San Diego. I speak from experience, because we had a different hospice before signing up with Advantage, and interviewed several. My husband (their patient) was a retired physician with multiple serious health problems. Being a physician, he knew how the best care should be administered. And he got it with Advantage. They have the most kind, compassionate, caring, and professional staff. They were here for us 24/7. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our care team. Daphne, the Team Director. From day one she learned as much as she could about our case and put together a customized care plan. She kept communicating with us throughout the whole process. She once texted me at 8pm on Saturday with care suggestions, and I asked her: When do you rest? She answered that she loves what she does, and always thinks how to better care for her patients. Daphne made our journey as easy as possible, and she made the most hard and painful time of our life better with her care, compassion, and understanding. Haley, our social worker, was caring, knowledgeable, very resourceful, and extremely helpful. Her visits and conversations always brightened our days. I would give them a o if that was the option. Please stay away from this company! My mother in law was put with hospice for kidney failure, the representative I meet at Kaiser was very knowledgeable and comforting, because this was a bit of a shock and heartbreaking to us, we went with them expecting nothing but the best for her. Reality hit fast, the nurse Cynthia who says she has been with hospice for over 30 years, was the main reason we left. she was pushy, rudely over confident, bossy, rude to family, and did not follow through with anything. When calling the company to order supplies like diapers, lotion, wipes we were told they were ordered and would be there in one day.They never came, we had to go buy, Cynthia told us that Hospice only gives supplies like this as a courtesy! and would only send a small amount. this is after she told us they would send items out when needed, humm... didn't happen. we had a sit down meeting with nurse Cynthia, and the social worker, explaining our frustration, asking them to please send supplies as our needs were, again we were told that hospice has a limit to the amount of supplies. We were only asking for supplies for one women bedridden. Nurse Cynthia also suggested in a humorous way, pointing to her nose that we need to go through her, and laughing she said "Whats in it for me"!!! We stayed with the company, not wanting to put mom through another exam etc. when they started sending odd orders to us like 1 premie diaper, 2 extra large mens diapers, no itchy lotion, and no call backs. we went with another hospice. night and day difference. getting supplies as we need. and getting the care for mom that she needs. read more

My family member was in hospice for only 2 days so I can't rate the quality of care over the long haul. They say they're open 24 hours, but we called 2 or 3 times the morning he died to reach somebody there, but there was no answer or return phone call. It took a call to the mortuary to get a response. Can I give them zero stars? My grandmother has only been under their care for four days, no actually only one, because they've been missing in action for the last three. No returned calls! If a dying woman needs something at 4 pm on a Saturday, must she wait until Monday after 9 am to get an answer? Health aides that don't show up. Calls poorly prioritized. Kaiser hospice was full - this was what we were given instead. So I'll add that after complaining to a supervisor, my grandmother finally received the catheter and some other items to make her last days more comfortable. Our family has been thru hospice twice before, we aren't unreasonable. Grossmont and Kaiser set the bar high, Advantage came on strong with the sales pitch- poor follow thru. read more

I highly recommend Advantage Health Systems and be sure to ask for Amit (PT) and Joe (OT). My mom, who is 90, underwent a total hip replacement and when she left rehab Joe and Amit came every week to work with her. They were both knowledgeable, skilled, patient, kind and respectful. They worked to get my mom back into independent living which she was able to accomplish.We will use Advantage Health Systems again if the need ever arises and we will ask for Joe (OT) and Amit (PT). read more

I want to give a major shout out to the staffers at Advantage. They are caring, thoughtful, kind and just a wonderful team. No place is perfect, but when there were issues, they were always prompt to jump on things and get the situation remedied quickly. My mom was on hospice for 8 long months. Allyna (case nurse), Paul, Jose and the whole team (Tram, Charlene, Mimi, and others) were on point and especially at the end, as things got more difficult, were right by our side to guide and help us. This is a long review. When it was time to sign my mother up for hospice, 02/21/2020 my sister and I met with Michael, their community liaison he was very polite and knowledgeable. My mother had Medicare/Tricare for life as her insurance. Initially everything seemed okay. They immediately replaced her wheelchair, nebulizer, with their equipment and started bring in bags of supplies. Everything was okay until COVID hit. We were unable to see her for 10 weeks, video chats were our only communication. We were finally able to visit, because she was transitioning. I asked the nurse to do a dehydration punch test. She had to do a google search on how to administer the test. The nurse asked me what I thought about the results. My mother was admitted to the hospital for 8 days due to extreme dehydration. Once released we could not visit. (By this time she had stopped eating or drinking). I called Sherry, her nurse, to ask why she would not document my mother was transitioning in her chart. I called her at 5:10 pm on Monday 06/15/2020. She told me she was off work, to call back the next day. I did call her and left a voicemail, no response. I called her again Wednesday 06/17/2020, and once again left a voicemail. Sherry finally called me back that afternoon. I asked her why she wouldn't state my mother was transitioning in her chart. She told me my mother's blood pressure was stable(she was on morphine by this time), and she didn't SMELL like she was dying. I told her she was very insensitive, if was her mother or grandmother she would feel differently. She sent Anthony, another nurse an hour later, and he documented my mother was transitioning. We were allowed to visit between the hours of 10-6 daily. On Friday, 2 days later a different hospice nurse told us she had 7-10 days before she would pass. On Saturday 06/20/2020 my sister and I were told by the head nurse at her facility we could stay as long as we wanted. We had unlimited access for visits. My sister and I were with our mother when we received a call for the hospice agency asking if we had made final arrangements for our mother. The response was she is still living why are you calling us? About 4 hours later my mother was struggling to breath. The nurse on duty at the facility where my mom lived called the hospice agency. Someone was to call us back within the hour. My mother passed 4 hours later. No one ever called or came. No doctor ever visited from 02/21/2020-06/21/2020. It's been a very unpleasant experience dealing with Advantage Hospice. STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

We had the opportunity to work with PT, OT and a home health nurse for my husband after surgery and to help with regaining strength. All employees who attended my husband were exceptionally knowledgable, respectful, patient and courteous. If and when we need home health again, we will be calling Advantage. read more
