While visiting my friend 5-ish years ago things didn't sit quite right with me. She was in the hospital for nearly a month with an excruciatingly painful kidney infection that just wouldn't heal quickly nor easily. To me, that seemed odd... but I'm not a doctor. She didn't seem to be getting what she needed to heal properly. Upon being discharged she sought other doctors for prolonged care. About two years ago, my mom fell and dislocated her shoulder. I took her to the emergency room at Baptist Beaches. Knowing she was in pain, she wasn't actually seen for any type of care (just checked in and places in a room for several hours before even meeting the ER doctor. While waiting she wasn't given anything for her pain, either.... Not even some ice to place on the shoulder. Once the doctor came him he was VERY short with her and spoke rather rudely, almost as if to childishly mock her because she, too, was being short and raising her voice. However, she was the one in pain! He even threatened to 'walk out of the room and not come back' after she told him that she didn't want morphine. She related it to another family member's death and it was an unpleasant trigger for her. He behaved quite immaturely as I waited for him to stomp his feet as he left the room. I literally had to be a referee for the two of them. To this day, my mom STILL cannot lift her arm much higher than where her elbow is. However, that is in part because she didn't go to physical therapy after her injury. A couple of months ago, I again had to take my mother to the ER immediately following a visit with her general practitioner. It was discovered that she had a blood lot in her leg. To this day, we don't know how big it is, if it's dissipated, where she's bleeding from, or exactly how serious it was. We DO know that this visit was much more palatable for her 5 day stay. The nurses were more polite and orderly in their interactions with her. They seemed to be knowledgeable and very thorough with their responsibilities and communications. In both cases, I'm grateful to have had an emergency room so close to her home!

The concept of having surgery was nerve-racking itself, but they made it a smooth and comfortable experience. The doctors, the the anesthesiologist the receptionist were all top professionals in their field . I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Baptist Beaches ; if the need arises again !

Found my mid 80s mom laying on the floor bleeding feom the head from a fall. Called 911. They…read moretook jer to LRMC where they left her laying in a bed for hours without so much as giving her a piece of gauze to hold over the bleeding. After they let me in the only thing I could do is give her a paper towel from the sink. Finally when someone came in I asked if we could get an ice pack or something to controll the bleeding, pain and swelling but they denied it stating head wounds cant have ice. What about gauze, a wash cloth? These people made it clear that they did not care about my mom. Then they left. I was afraid having an 80 ur old parent that fell and hit her head and was bleeding but it wasnt important enough for this er. I tried to email mu concerns directly to the hospital i stead of posing publically but could not find any way to do so

wow, what a nightmare from the minute we walked in to the minute we escaped this place !!…read moreDirect admit from doctor's office to ER with infected foot (husband is insulin dependent diabetic). Hospital affiliated doctor was "chicken little" (the sky is falling !!!). She said "OMG, this was an emergency that needed attention immediately and most likely will have to have immediate surgery ! " Well, we sat in the ER for over 8 hours only being seen by the nurse and PA. Wanted to prescribe inappropropriate and dangerous antibiotics.(which I refused) Not one person looked at wound !! Wanted to do unnecessary tests and repeat tests already done. Was told that if we left AMA, hospital bill would not be paid by insurance and he wouldn't be seen by any local doctors for a long time. Once admitted, waited 2 days to see appropriate doctor who ran into room without introducing himself, acted annoyed that he had to see us, stayed for 10 minutes, and then discharged him. We kept asking nurse if inpatient stay was necessary due to them doing NOTHING and us having to sit and wait for this one doctor. All could have been done on outpatient basis !!! Assigned RN was extremely overworked with no help (she had 7 patients -3 of which were very sick and needed lots of care). Hospitalist doctor, nice but clueless !! I asked to speak with Case Manager in morning and she never showed up !!! I think we will take our chances with competent naturopathic doctors to deal with this infection rather than this incompetent, medical machine that has no clue how to help real people. Same afternoon got appointment with naturopathic doctor in area who took one look at wound and told us to use Manuka Honey on it. Next morning , wound almost healed !!!!
