I brought my fiancé in at 4 am due to blood in his urine. The triage team got him checked in, assessed and in a bed in the ER within 15 minutes. How ER nurse was Jamie. Both me and my fiancé said to one another, "This girl knows her stuff" . Nurse Jamie was prompt, gentle but direct regarding IV insertion and blood dress. She kept him well informed and quick with pain meds. My fiance is going thru his 2nd bout with cancer, so he's had many many nurses. Jamie stands out BY FAR as the best nurse he's had. We've never had a bad nurse at Advent Waterman and it's the only hospital we will go to. Thank you Jamie and thank you Waterman for being so quick and competent when we need you the most. ER was amazing with my mother and sister. They were involved in a MVC. My mom had to be admitted and that became a very unpleasant stay. We had her transferred to the Orlando site. My mom has a complicated medical history. She's a cardiac and renal patient. Waterman's providers didn't address these issues. The orthopedic surgeon only worries about if he could do surgery. She wasn't a candidate and he says to her I'm discharging you since I can't help you with a surgery. At this point we knew she had a fracture in her spine with a possibility of the spinal cord above the fracture having an issue. This was from reading the MRI result which recommended a neurosurgeon review the study. This orthopedic surgeon tried to tell us he was the equivalent to the neurosurgeon at waterman since they didn't have one. Fortunately our family has several RN's from multiple specialities. We talked to the patient advocate and hospitalist that was over seeing care. She said she tried to transfer my mother that night and the orthopedic surgeon stopped it. He has a GOD complex and will hurt someone soon!! read more

I was referred to Advent health Waterman hospital by my primary care physician for physical therapy. I checked in and filled the paperwork out. The Therapist I saw was James Monroe he was very poor and unprofessional to be in a healthcare position. He had to get advice from another Therapist very rude. I was in the office for 15 minutes. Which he wrote I was there 50 minutes which was a lie and He did a general observation which was in his notes which was false information. He's very unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone. read more

So today 05/31/2024 I came in for a simple chest x ray. I received the worst service from the receptionist. She kept making these faces like she was annoyed and didn't want to help me or be there at work. That right there made me feel some type of way. I mumbled to myself that this is bad service. She look at in disgust and said "what you say" with attitude. I had to gather my thoughts because I know I could have made it worse. But I kept my composure. Once I got to the back I spoke with the insurance lady and the doctor. They were pretty nice. I was explaining my situation to them and they were ok. It was the nurse with a nasty attitude that made me so mad. After I explained to her I was not signing anything and that I needed to be discharged. She started ripping the blood pressure thing off my arm and snatched the monitor thing off my finger. That could have escalated quickly. But again I kept my cool and walked out. Im saying this because things could have gotten ugly. Had I treated them they ways they treated me. Please retrain these people to treat patients with more kindness. i am writing this definitive guide to surviving a stroke at adventhealth waterman hospital in tavares based on a dearth of medical care and their bot reply to my complaint: look at the chart that is in the patient's room. is there a severe lack of information on the chart ? the purpose of this chart is to help the patient, family, and health care team provide solutions, but more importantly, the purpose is to communicate with you based on the information presented, can you determine if the patient is hydrated ?: how much water is the patient drinking how much urine is she passing what color is her urine these are critical considerations ask them to post the patient's vitals on the room chart is her blood pressure and pulse above normal levels, and is there a treatment plan in place if it is ? if not critical, are you being provided with a history of her vitals what are the patient's sugar and electrolytes ? her lab results ? these are the things you need to look at while you are there visiting are her kidneys functioning normally what tests have they performed ? an iv is indicated to flush contrast. has the patient been given contrast in order to do Imaging. in addition, an iv has numerous therapeutic effects there's a code for acute stroke. how is the hospital following stroke code protocol did they administer tpa what is the treatment plan ? if the treatment plan isn't on the room chart, ask the nurse to post this information you need to ask about tpa if the nurse gets "upset" or you receive some type of disparaging comment, make sure to document this do not accept "hipaa" as the excuse for the hospital to withhold information. hipaa is not there to protect the hospital and their lawyers. withholding information is a legitimate malpractice complaint the objective is to protect your loved ones. you have the option to trust the health care team, but it is your responsibility to verify. don't allow your loved one to become another casualty of the broken health care system read more

The quality of care and the personality and professionalism of the doctors nurses and tax is excellent. They keep me informed, and do everything they can to be polite, courteous, and professional. No complaints with the people. The one major complaint I have which has occurred on multiple occasions and my wife and I being in Advent Health Waterman is the substandard quality of the mattresses. Unfortunately my back does not do well on these some standard units. And they always have a shortage of pillows. You would think that a 9billion dollar corporation would have better quality mattresses. read more

It disgusted me how they treated my family member while on her death bed, allowing her to sit in her own feces for over 1 1/2 hours. No one should have to feel uncared for while dying. They didn't help her brush her teeth or comb her hair or wash up. They did the bare minimum and it makes me sick! I had my horrible experience in the ER of this hospital last year. It was dirty, they were rude, spilled my blood on the floor and got it on the computer keyboard the nurse was using. This was the dirtiest hospital I've ever seen. Dirt on the floors, dirty bed sheets and mattress covers, and a staff member who couldn't get an IV started in me used the once sterile sticker, stuck it to the sheet where it picked up a bunch of dirt, and then stuck it back on my arm to cover the gauze. We spent over 6 hours in the ER with the first 2 or 3 not seeing any one. Once staff members did start coming into the room they were all very nice. Their bedside manner was great and they were open to all my concerns about different medications and how they'd effect everything going on. That earned them two stars vs the one I was going to give this hospital. Overall, the issue wasn't resolved and it was 6 hours wasted. We will probably have to go to another doctor soon. read more

Checking was fine but then after my vitals and all that was done a woman came in she didn't introduce herself with any kind of doctor or anybody asked me in an interrogative manner what happened to me what was wrong. Been X-ray tech came to do the x-rays and she refused to give me any kind of protection I asked about a lead vest or something and she said they don't do that anymore yet she ran out in the hallway when she pushed the button. I actually have several times about it and she's still refused. When the results of the x-rays came back the same woman who never identified herself came in and told me oh everything's fine you have arthritis in your knee and so you just take Advil put hot and cold presses on your knee and foot and just keep it up. Well when I read my release papers it said that I had a sprained knee a sprained foot and a contusion in my hand but no rap for my knee or foot was offered. Then when I was discharged and trying to leave they had a police incident going on in the hospital so they told me nobody's going in nobody's going out yet I'm sitting there by the security desk watching people go in and out and when I asked the security guard he got nasty and repeated himself but I said look and he kept denying that people were going in and out and I'm watching them do it. A lot of aggravation after an aggravating accident. My co-payment for all the segregation was $120. Maybe they'll have to wait till I settle my lawsuit to get it. Appointment time came and went 45 minutes after my time I ask the associate at the desk what's going on. She says to always check in at the desk as well- I ask what's the point of the 3 notifications for online checkin. She shrugs her shoulders and says yeah it doesn't really work. read more

Dr. M Bryce placed a heart pacemaker with leads into the Lt. ventricle for me 03/16/22 at Advent Waterman Hospital. Immediately after discharge readmitted via ER with hot stabbing Lt. chest pain on movement. Pain persisted, repeated blood work showed I was bleeding. Dr Bryce did visit once and said a lead was making a "dimple" in my heart muscle, but pain and bleeding were nothing to do with his work, a cardiologist would sort it out. 03/22 early evening rang the nurse as told her to call the cardiologist NOW. Stat CT scan showed a lead had gone through my heart and I had over 1000ml of blood in the base of my Lt. lung. Went via ambulance to Celebration Advent in Orlando for heart repair by Dr. Palmer. Two leads had gone through my heart. Chest was opened, and repair done. Movement of leads is a known risk, the pain, and bleeding should have made it clear to Dr. Bryce what happened. Hbg 03/18 14.5,...Hbg 03/22 8.1 on admission to Celebration Waterman. Anyone can make a mistake, the fact that Dr. M Bryce did not diagnose correctly or follow up resulted in a delay of treatment, a longer recovery and some post operative problems. I was very disappointed that staff at Advent Waterman and Lake Country Cardiovascular Practice must have relied on Dr. Bryce's assessment and looked for other diagnoses, and that I had to call the ward nurse when I knew something was going terribly wrong and it had to be my heart. Ok so literally only giving a 3 star review because the nurses were so nice. In total we were here for 6 hours. 6! For a sprained wrist. A few other people with serious injuries had been in the waiting room for hours before we even got there! And one woman came on an ambulance and they just plopped her down in the waiting room with no pain medication so she was sobbing in pain from her injury. This is ridiculous guys come on do better. I will say that once you're back there the nurses are very accommodating, it's the doctors who are taking forever. read more

my Mother came in to the Advent Health Waterman ED. The Doctor was top notch and wanted her to stay out of an abundance of caution. the nurse on duty could have cared less and had no joy and had been off for days and we were there before 9:00 am. We have been told we were moving to the Hospital and would be there by 3:00 it is now 4:18. I called the floor and they passively aggressively said oh ED said your mother was a joy. Almost saying I was not. too bad, parents need advocates. this passive aggressive behavior from a hospital should be evaluated. you need to have people who care!! read more

Type of care: Poor, poor and more poor!!! I am so SICK and TIRED of going through the same nonsensical mess at Waterman Hospital with my sickle cell adult son. Last year around this time we had the same darn issue regarding his pain management and nurses/ doctors who were NOT FAMILIAR with his history and or DID NOT CARE. Patient Advocate do a great job reading the reviews, however, the ISSUE of HOW to take care of sickle cell patients who come in for treatment due to them having a severe CRISIS( one of the ONLY REASON) remains a HUGE PROBLEM! While i get that there are many to seek ways to get drugs, this is NOT the case with my son. The doctor on call tonight most certainly DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK HE IS DOING and most certainly DOES NOT COMPREHEND THE SEVERITY OF THE LEVEL OF PAIN MY SON IS IN!!! If you hear him CRYING OUT it's because IT HURTS!!!! I wholeheartedly WILL NEVER recommend this hospital anymore!! I went in due to a fall on Friday and chest pains. Got a iv by josh he poped my vain didn't clean it didn't report it and didn't tell me how to care for it. Didn't give me ice or anything. I reported it to another nurse she cleaned it and gave me a heating pad per my request. Yet no after care instructions on it. Thank god I was in nursing and new what to do followed up with my doctor in the villages and got looked at and notes on it. Stay away from this hospital for sure! Josh said that looks like a juicey vain and poped my vain swelling in hole right arm. Swelled and sore to use Never once said sorry or anything! My dad was here for over a week before he passed. The in-patient rooms are beautiful and the food is very nicely presented, but some of the doctors and nurses are not great... while others are. Matt, the oncology nurse told us he's anti-vax and anti-mask. He said covid doesn't spread through the air and that "now they're saying hydroxychloriquine actually helps covid." He said he and his wife Brittany won't get vaccinated and don't believe wearing masks prevents the spread. Yashica RN said she had other stuff to do besides calling our oncology doctor to approve a new blood test to see if there was any hope of treatment for my dad while at the desk, even though it was 4:10 and our case manager said we needed to request it by 4 and I initially asked at 3:20. They eventually did the test, but no one told us any results, ever. I did end up finding them on the online patient portal though. The oncology doctor also didn't come to answer questions after them telling me my dad had only days or hours left to live even though he was just diagnosed a day before. I requested a Dr. visit because they said if the blood tests were okay we could possibly start treatment and we waited two days, he never came. They kept saying they didn't need to call him because he visits all of his patients every day. He forgot us though. Marla the ultrasound technician was the worst part of the entire experience. We were sent down for fluid removal and she did not do it. She was hostile and aggressive and raised her voice telling us she doesn't know why they transported us down for a treatment when that's not what she's doing. We didn't arrange transport or the procedure, they came and got my dad out of bed and brought him down there for it because the doctor ordered it. We were so confused about why she was angry and being so rude to my dad who is so sweet, thankful, and considerate. Eric in transport witnessed the situation. It was a major stain on my last days with my dad. I wish I could forget her. Those 4 were let-downs. Others were stars though. Mary, Diane, and Bincy, the 6th floor nurses are angels. They care so much about their patients. They're so skilled and kind. They treated my dad so well and I will cherish the memories they helped us to enjoy forever. Same with Renee, the housekeeping attendant - so truly kind. These are all wonderful people with hearts of gold. They made the experience so much better for us. They are the reason the place gets 3 stars, as well as the view, rooms, and food. I'm so grateful for all of these incredible ladies. They are treasures and make the entire experience okay despite the unfortunate aspects of it. Overall, the place is nice, but the experience with the doctors and nurses is very 'luck of the draw.' This hospital does not have specialized oncologists for bile duct cancer or liver metastasis. Note: Dr Samuel Guzman, ER doctor, made such a big impact on my dads visit that, before he passed, he asked me to write him a thank you letter, and I did. He must have been so wonderful too because that was so important to my dad. I didn't get to meet Dr Guzman but I'm sure he was excellent to my father, so he gets an honorable mention too. read more

We went to the ER inTavares at 7:30 A 2/8/24. My hubby was experiencing vertigo. The reception & nursing staff were on top of things, consulting w hubby, taking vitals, reporting to a doctor who's name escapes me. The problem is that we were told that morning that the doctor would be in, but the time, even a ball-park time was impossible to determine. By 3:00 p I asked if there was an idea of when the doc would come to the ER, the number of patients in that area, any inkling at all to determine if hubby would be admitted to the hospital. He had gone through multiple bloodwork draws, given a nutritional drip, & ex-rated. By 4:45 I checked with the nurses once more & asked if she had a sense of whether hubby would be admitted. Her smirky, condescending reply was, "We don't know when the doctor will come see him.". I left to care for our pet & await an update from my hubby. We thought he would be kept overnight because of the lateness of the day. 5 minutes after arriving home from a 20 minute ride due to traffic, my hubby calls to say he's been released. He & I feel strongly that he was kept in the ER to milk the insurance. We've had 2 visits to the ER in other states over the last 10 years. We've always been given updates on the doctor's progress toward our room. This is just a guess, but if they are padding the bill, shame on Advent Health for their shoddy customer service & corrupt billing practices. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars because we had a one star emergency room experience and a 5 star pediatric inpatient experience. My 3 month old was having trouble breathing due to a respiratory virus and when we arrived the check in staff had a hard time finding someone being us back to emergency. I'm on the verge of tears holding my erratically breathing infant and the staff are going back and forth on the radio trying saying "well he looks like he's breathing, his color's ok... is there anyone available? Oh he's on break ok who else is there." It was as kind of unbelievable. They also entered my infant's weight incorrectly and brought him 10x the correct amount of medication and even after that was corrected they gave him ibuprofen, insisting that it was acceptable for infants which I was later told is not. They also stood in front of me and argued over who would put in the IV, neither wanted to because he was so small! They finally brought in a wonderful pediatric nurse who did an excellent job. I understand that they weren't comfortable caring for an infant but that should not have been discussed in front me, it shattered my already diminished confidence in the emergency dept. Everyone was kind and helpful but the level of care we received greatly surprised me. When we were admitted to the pediatric ward, our experience drastically changed. Both physicians we met with were knowledgeable, confident and easy to trust. Everyone, from the skilled nursing staff and respiratory therapist: to the dietary staff and cleaning crew were on point, and allowed me to feel confident that my child was receiving the best care. Overall a very mixed experience. It's the closest emergency room but if I had time, I'd see if there was another that might be more comfortable caring for an infant. read more

My father was here dealing with a complicated infection. We continued to get conflicting information from the Doctors - who kept changing their view on the best course of treatment. We decided to get my father back to their hometown - but were given no support in arranging for care or identifying Doctors who could take over his care after leaving FL. In addition, he and his wife came down with Covid shortly after leaving the hospital. After leaving this hospital in Florida, we quickly found the right specialists for my Dad who were shocked at his care in Florida and the lack of clear direction while we were there. read more

I had an out of hospital birth but had to be transferred here shortly after my son was born due to excessive bleeding. They didn't allow my newborn son to come with me to the hospital even though he had been born minutes before the ambulance came. Then, because my son was seperated from me he had very low blood oxygen (it got down to 78%). They told my midwife over the phone they would admit him but once my husband brought him in they refused to admit him because he hadn't been born at the hospital. Thankfully my son turned out fine but the hospital staff were not allowed to help me with my son in any way. The hospital staff overall were very negative and only added to the stress. read more

I'm a long term resident of the area with many years of experience with Waterman. When I discuss the care at Waterman with others in our community the Waterman experience is inconsistent at the least. My mother was recently admitted to Waterman after 3 emergency room visits in three days. It was not good. The care here is very hit or miss. The most recent experience with the emergency room added to experiences with care for my mother-in-law as well as personal experiences in various departments of this hospital over the past several years ensure that I will do whatever I can to seek care elsewhere. Over the years I keep hoping things will get better but they can't seem to consistently provide very quality service. I am able to compare them to the service with Advent in Orlando (which has provided me with exceptional care over the last 4 years), Moffitt in Tampa, and The University of Miami. Advent in Orlando's care was comparable to Moffitt and The University of Miami which both have exceptional reputations. My concerns expressed to Waterman hospital have been met with no response. My recommendation would be to seek care elsewhere when possible. read more

The staff is amazing overall! We came in on a Thursday around 4 pm and left around 6 pm, had my brother in a bed by 10 minutes. The nurses were very nice and comforting trying to make him feel better, they checked on him very often and gave him medicine for his pain quickly. His nurse practitioner (Kelly) was also very comforting and quick with her work. For having to be on their feet for hours they had no attitude like other healthcare workers usually do, they were amazing and extremely nice! Definitely recommend. read more

Late on a Friday evening after a call to our PC Dr. Eagle who within minutes returned our call and told us to take my wife to the ER. Upon arriving at Advent ER in Tavares, FL we were quickly checked in, admitted and taken back. Attendants quickly began a series of tests, results came back shortly and the ER Dr. reviewed them and ordered a CT. This was done within an hour and results read. My wife was then admitted to the hospital and a gastro Dr. was called that night! Early Saturday morning my wife Sherry S. was taken to the Endoscopy Dept. where Dr. Ramiah was waiting. The staff in that area were amazing and that's an under statement! They quickly prepped her for the procedure and within 30 minutes she was taken back where Dr. Ramiah found the bleeding ulcer in her duodenum, closed the hole and stopped the bleeding all in a matter of 10 minutes!! Amazing! And BTW the ER after reviewing her initial blood work began giving her a blood transfusion which actually took two units of blood to return her blood pressure back to an acceptable range. I can't say enough good words to describe the care my wife was given during the following three days, every facet of her care while she was a patient was beyond excellent. Very thankful to God for the care and treatment my wife was given by everyone at Advent Health in Tavsres. Thank you all!! read more

I am horrified and appalled at the level of rudeness and unprofessionalism displayed at the front desk of this hospital on Monday 2/6/2023. I arrived here (main entrance) around 10:30ish am and stoped by the front desk to ask if my family and I needed a vistors pass. The African American lady, with glasses, and short hair had the most vulgar attitude when we approached her - She got up from her chair, and loudly started saying "I dont got time for this, I dont got time for this" and basically waved us away. You don't have time to answer a question regarding basic requirements and security of the hospital that employs you? How someone with her lack of people skills and HOSPITALITY could be hired to be the GREETING face of this medical establishment is beyond me. There is not an ounce of friendliness, compassion, or respect from the woman behind the front desk. Very disappointing and negative experience. Please do better. read more

The nurses were Amazing!! Most Drs.were great also.... Problem lies with the case workers!!! They need to clean house with them!!! My 30 yr old granddaughter was admitted with renal failure and congested heart failure..She is type 1 diabetic...they were all great to her....they realized her on a Monday night with a permanent port after dialysis...they had her next appointment with DaVita scheduled for Wednesday....One of the case workers cancelled her appointments....I believe I know which one...They didn't have her scheduled for Wednesday OR Friday...she had to go to the ER on Friday to get it done.....She needs dialysis.....they or I should say HER put her life in danger.... Over the last 40 years, I have been to the ER plenty of times, so I think I am a bit of an expert. I can remember when the hospital was in downtown Eustis, in an old hotel. I have met quite a few doctors and others who have an attitude and are inept, but I have also met great, compassionate, competent doctors and other staff that do the best job they can. It is the luck of the draw. One thing more I would like to say. I hate, hate, hate the building. It is so ugly, and because of the design, people need to walk a mile to get to the doors.
