This airport is a small one and can get a bit crowded at times, but overall, it's a well maintained, easily laid out airport that I was truly impressed by. The security area is in a huge vaulted area so it doesn't feel cramped at all. If anything, it feels warm & inviting due to all of the glass windows. Our trip through it was quick due to it being early in the morning, but I would imagine it would be a nice place to have to stand in a line while waiting to clear the detectors/bag x-rays. Once inside, things are clearly labeled and easily laid out. There are plenty of places to grab some food should you be hungry, but they're mostly chain places. For the kids they even have a few Lego vending machines (as of July 2026) should you want to give them activity to pass time in the airport or the flight itself. I wanted to speak as much Spanish as possible but I found most employees there spoke great English so I wouldn't worry about there being a language barrier that could prevent you from moving about & getting to where you need to be. I also want to say that on our return trip back, by the time we got off the plane, went to the restroom, and got to baggage claim, our bags were not only there, they had been taken off the belt by an employee & put off to the side together with everyone in our party. It was one of the fastest bag retrievals I've ever had in my decades of flying. I was sho happily shocked. If I had one complaint it would be that I wish they had some more restrooms/that they weren't tucked away on other floors or in the corners. We were a family with 3 small kids and having to walk long distances just to use the restroom felt a bit laborious at times. This airport is well kept and good size too. It's not huge, but not small either. You will walk a little bit of a ways to get to your gate, and you will pass many restaurants and shops along the way. There are plenty of restrooms, and even a little potty area with a fake fire hydrant for dogs. There are also money changing stations if you didn't get that done before hand. You should just be weary with certain condiments at the restaurants. If you do not have an iron stomach, best not to eat anything that has mayo, an aioli, or salad dressing on it. And that goes for all the airports in Mexico. Also, some airlines will start boarding way early, and will be up in the air before the listed departure time, so make sure to get to the gate a full hour ahead of that departure time, just in case they already started boarding. read more

Came to this airport to pick up a family member. This is my first time here and I was really nervous coming here. Parking was really straightforward, easy access in and out, I was surprised. Get your tickets when you come in, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT WITH YOU when you go into the airport because you will need it to pay before going back to your car (You also get a 15 minute window for you to leave). Elevator was out of service! Inside the airport, it was nice and clean. There are taxi people just waiting for you to come out of the arrival doors, but they are not annoying, if you say no, they'll move on. That's was good. They have a money exchange, shops, some fast food and a Starbucks inside. read more

We crossed into TIJ vai CBX and flew out domestically to Cabo instead of internationally from San Diego. Prices was much better, even when you factor in the minor cost of utilizing the CBX. Speaking of, CBX funnels you directly into TIJ security area, which was a breeze to get through. Once through security, the airport opens up into a surprising modern concourse outfitted with a variety of eateries, bars and shops. There is a small food court that houses a few chain restaurants, but also local spots offering up all the Mexican favorites you might expect after crossing. The options for shopping, snacks, drinks and meals are decent. The space, including the walk ways are well kept and clean. The terminal and gates are well laid out, and signage is helpful. It is an easy airport to navigate. Overall, we were surprised with TIJ and did not expect the modern design and variety of options. We had about 90 minutes to wait, and that time was well spent bellied up to a bar sipping a margarita at 9:00 AM! read more

This past week was my first time flying out TJ and I have to say it was a good experience. Most of the signage was in English and Spanish to make it easier on people that don't speak Spanish. Today, 12/22, I had one of the worst airport experiences of my life at Tijuana International Airport (TJ) due to the complete failure of airport and airline coordination during a Viva Aerobus flight cancellation to Cabo. My morning flight was canceled with little to no notice, and from that moment on, everything fell apart. It took nearly six hours for staff to provide any meaningful information or assistance on rebooking or next steps. The lack of urgency, communication, and leadership was shocking. What made it worse was the so called manager, who clearly had no idea how to handle the situation. He was disorganized, unprepared, and ineffective. At one point, another passenger a woman had to step in and literally guide him step by step on how to move forward. That should never happen in a situation involving hundreds of stranded travelers. This trip was especially important to me. My family was already inside the airplane, and I was traveling for my father's birthday, which is now completely ruined due to this late cancellation and incompetence. There was zero empathy shown for passengers with families, time sensitive plans, or special occasions. After hours of waiting, all I was offered was a flight the next day and a single overnight stay, which felt insulting given the disruption, stress, and lost time. No real accountability. No proper compensation. Just delays and excuses. On top of everything, the airport itself is poorly equipped to handle disruptions: * Not enough seating * Very limited charging areas (my phone nearly died) * Overcrowded, chaotic, and uncomfortable * Passengers everywhere visibly frustrated and exhausted This airport clearly lacks competent management and basic passenger support infrastructure. I will never return to Tijuana International Airport (TJ) Airport, and I strongly recommend avoiding it if you value your time, sanity, or travel plans. I really appreciate the Tijuana airport. Especially when accessed via the cross border express or CBX. Super convenient location, easy to navigate, short security lines, good restaurants, bars, and stores past screening for passengers to use while waiting for their flight. Flights to Mexican destinations are domestic so you avoid the international taxes, fees, and surcharges. If you use the CBX you can park on the US side for your trip. Clean restrooms and pleasant staff. The CBX and Tijuana airport are my preferred method of travel to Mexican destinations. read more

TWO THINGS!! Very important and yall need to watch out! And be prepared!! So I'm going to Mexico for 7 days so me and my two girls have to pay. The Lady there "helped me" I payed with my Navy Fed Cashrewards credit card the green one. And the receipt came out weird and she said they won't accept this one and your card didn't go through you have to do it again. So cause we were running late. I Didn't think twice so then She was like the machine usually doesn't take the green or blue navy feds cards just the red ones. So then I payed with my Debit card... little did I know it did charge my credit card and she didn't cancel it. So now I don't even know how I'm suppose to get a refund ??? So if anyone has/had a similar situation lmk, I tried searching but couldn't find a way to communicate with them I dispute it but who's knows how that's gonna go. So just watch out for that. Idk if it's something they do she had me going to like 4 machines. Because it "wouldnt work". Now to my traumatizing moment. As a mother of a Disabled Child I always make sure to call to make my family trip go smooth and my Daughter with Autism won't get overwhelmed. Well this time around I had to travel with my 2yr old and 4yr old By myself . My 4 Year Old has Autism. She can't walk by herself she doesn't understand instructions, she doesn't have any danger awareness. So she needs to be In her stroller that's used as her disability Equipment. I had called and got the Okay. Checked my Big bag in got my tickets and everything was going good UNTIL it came to the part where they check your bags and everything you have. Let me say this Again. My Daughter Doesn't suppose to get out of her stroller, At all until we are at our gate or in a safe place where I can see she can't run off and I can keep my eyes on her. Before I went in I talked to the Lady that checked me in with my boarding pass through the little doors and told me Don't worry she doesn't have to get off. And I was like I'm just making sure you guys know. Because I don't want this to become a big thing. ( I'm already traveling on my own I'm nervous I get panic attacks. But it was a family emergency.) anyways I get up there a lady is telling me "You need to take your girls out and she needs to walk by herself through the security detector. And then another guy comes and starts Screaming in my face and then they both start yelling at me to take my girls out and I was trying to explain to them but they Didn't let me Talk at all! At this point I got really bad anxiety and started taking my girls out my 2yr old was sleeping so she wasn't happy. And then I took my 4 yr old out. Of course she got scared and started screaming and throwing her self at the floor she didn't want to go through I was struggling for my life trying to handle my 4 yr old while my 2 yr old was crying as well so then I started shaking and telling them to please hurry and they are just staring at me and my 4 yr old wants to get back in her stroller and the lady isn't letting her and then she's trying to take MY 2 YEAR OLD FROM ME!! To "HELP ME OUT" like do your job hurry up and let me put my kids in there stroller. While all of this she's still telling me they can't go back on the stroller , I just let me 4yr old go and put my Two year old in the stroller and Told them. I called to let them know I had a daughter with a disability and she requires to stay In The stroller and the Lady in the Front confirm she will stay in the stroller and this could of been all avoided while I'm crying and shaking!! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Everyone is staring and then a Lady behind me that apparently works in the airline that I was going to be she knew about my daughter and she knew that I had called and she told them that my daughter should of never been off her stroller ! And the people just stayed quiet. I hope this never happens to anyone. To e lady from the Airline did tell me. When I'm there I have to tell them and be firm that I can't take my daughter off because she has Autism and she can run away and be in danger . And she also told me that when I go to my gate to let the people up there know so I get priority boarding as well. The staff were helpful and kind. We made it through without any problems at all. I just there was seating along the way between United States and the Tijuana check in. The requirements are the same as the US, essentially, with regards to carrying liquids. Restaurants are available once you make it to the Tijuana airport. read more

Been to this airport twice and it's really easy to navigate; not as hectic. Staff is very friendly and directs you to where you need to go. Passing security was a breeze and once on the other side there are several options for food or lounging areas to wait. I believe I waited 30 minutes before my flight. Flew out of Tijuana International Airport as it was cheaper to fly to Mexico City from here rather than LAX. We're talking a $400 difference in price. Not a hard decision to make on that one. Crossed over via CBX. The airport was actually much nicer than I expected. Very modern looking! I felt very comfortable here. CBX funneled us directly into the airport and it was a smooth process. Security was super easy. Didn't even need to worry about not having my usual TSA Pre, since the lines were super short. Plenty of food options here, although they were basically all American chains. I didn't come to Mexico to eat the same crap, so that was a pass. Can't really comment on traffic outside since...well, I never went outside. Overall, had a good experience and would definitely go through the trouble of flying out of here if it's that much cheaper. read more

This airport makes travel from San Diego to anywhere in Mexico so easy and convenient! CBX is great, just walk over the border. I felt very safe going through, and encountered no issues! I've gone through this airport a couple of times know, and if you travel during busy seasons, like spring break, expect it to take a while to get through customs. Although I speak Spanish, everybody in the airport also speaks English, and asking for directions or instructions is not an issue at all! We didn't encounter any huge issues here other than the confusion of where to go because their flight status info system doesn't update as fast as we want them to be. We checked in our luggage so that was done. We almost went to the wrong place because a staff redirected us there, good thing we found a flight info nearby. Initially it showed that we have to go to Sala A so we walked all the way to Sala A.....good thing I have the common sense to ask the people working there at the desk about our flight because "Sala A" didn't look like a Gate to me.....so yes! they gave us our real gate info....and it's on the other side of where we were at....so we walked all the way back again where we came from....I was shaking my head already but oh well....that was my exercise for that day and we were already flying back home. read more

Having done both the Los Angeles to Mexico City and Tijuana to Mexico City, I figured which is better. TJ to Mexico City EASYYYY. Not only was the flight half the price, but the fact that you're in another country makes it all the more hype and not have to deal with the TSA nightmare at LAX. Do be careful on taking the taxi though. Honestly, after trying a "taxi", I felt like it'd be better just to pay a little extra to use the CBX express which let's you walk across the border over a bridge into the airport instead. It's a little extra, but it would've been a few dollars cheaper and safer than the taxi option I took from San Ysidro to TJ's airport. Still, I'd rather fly out of this airport due to its ease of use and the fact that it let's you fly domestic Mexican flights without dealing with flight customs...You'll have customs, but it's way more chill than flying international. The airport is actually pretty nice itself, it has pretty much everything you'd expect in a US airport, although changing money to pesos is better with your bank/San Ysidro than here: ATM rates in TJ airport are trash. Airport isn't super large but a descent size. I believe there are two terminals with a number of gates in each. Lots of little shops and places to eat. There aren't really any vegan options so bring food ahead of time or eat before. The lines to check in luggage at the airport are really long. I've heard of people missing flights because they didn't account for this time. It's best to do carry on only if possible to bypass the lines. Airport security was a little odd, I accidentally forgot my daughter's small hydro flask had water in it and they made me go back to the security gate and drink the water (or another option to pour it out in the restroom). They were also kinda weird about the crates and not using crates from other sections. I didn't think they were very friendly or good at answering questions but it is what it is. Once inside, we located our gate and got some Starbucks. The menu there is very limited but we were able to have soy milk in our drinks. It's also really hard to hear the announcements from staff at the gates. So I would say, watch the monitor and the gate and follow the crowd. We flew Volaris and didn't have any major issues- just some issues with my seats that I'm trying to get reimbursement for since they were not honored. I've used this airport for two trips, once was about 13 years or more ago and now more recently. This airport allows for cheaper destinations when flying throughout Mexico. The use of CBX to access the airport makes the return for US citizens more bearable. read more

Times have changed for TJ airport since 6 years ago, from when they opened CBX. Since then they have expanded and captured that American usage and made TJ airport better. The terminals are no longer old, the ceiling isn't 9 feet tall. It's a pretty nice looking airport. The priority lounge is also triple the size. More options for flights from Volaris, Viva Aerobus and Aeromexico. More food options. Much smoother and better experience than 5 years ago. But coming from CBX due to Covid only have one entrance, it's stupid bc most of the people use it to check in baggage and it's a huge line. Need better organization. TJ airport is half the price of San Diego airport if you're going somewhere in Mexico. We use TJ airport to fly to Cabo, Cancun, Mexico City and PV often. Just make sure you capture the CBX crossing price ($35 per person), parking ($18/day) or risk it and park on the streets. read more

It was not too bad. I had not being in this airport in quite a while about 17 years to be exact. Their has been many improvements, I was worried we were going to get lost but the airport is not that big. The check in was quite easy and the staff was friendly and understanding. At time your find it difficult to deal because staff seems to be very rude and busy. Not here though that made the process much less stressful. I've saved so much money by just driving over the border to fly from here, a very clean and modern airport with lots of places to eat and plenty of places to wait around to fly out. This place is great in my opinion, I've used the parking structure here, very cheap rates, super safe, cheaper than cross border express which is literally on the other side of this place. The airport itself is great! As long as you have your CBX ticket and register on site prior to crossing over you will experience no hiccups. The airport is very clean and flights are always on time. I would arrive to the airport two hours before take off time to give yourself enough time to cross over with no stress. There are also quite a few food options and the "VIP" restaurant at the Volaris terminal is delicious! I had breakfast chilaquiles and two coffees and it was around $15. I would try to keep a carry on when traveling throughout Mexico to avoid any lost bags and to keep your luggage from being damaged. They offer on site parking for $18/day. Also, very easy airport for pick ups if you are having someone pick you up upon arrival. Safe travels! read more

First time flying out of the Aeropuerto de Tijuana, and arrived via taxi. We were brought right to the entrance. The good, the bad and the ugly. Since COVID Mexico has enacted a "health check" and you can only check-in and complete this series of questions within a timeframe from your departure and you were not allowed to even get through to security without having done this and showing the code to the security placed at the front of the entrance line. The downfall, airport wifi was EXTREMELY slow and unable to connect for several minutes and then it would go in and out. Then we notice paper health checks being given to select people, with others being told to follow the instructions online. Great, instructions were both in English and Spanish BUT you could not connect to the airport internet. Luckily we checked in early and added our flights to all of our phones (traveling with a group of 5)... the good is the bathrooms in the front look newly remodeled and extremely clean. Then after you finally get the website to work, you go wait in the long line to get your code checked and then are allowed to proceed. You move along to have your ID and boarding pass checked (again via mobile app) - luckily I screenshot the boarding pass for easier access. Then moving along to the area in which should be the boarding area. The downfall which was not exactly the airport's doing, but almost 75% of flights were delayed or cancelled. Ours was one flight that ended up getting delayed after delay after delay and finally taking off at night. There is not much food wise, and it is very pricey as would be expected at any airport, in any country. There is no seating to eat and not enough chairs to sit, and talk about common courtesy of the patrons - or lack thereof. Then it comes time to sit and wait for your plane, only to find out that 1 out 5 power strips work and everyone is bunched up to use the only outlets that work. You must venture downstairs to use the restrooms, which are not new and not clean, however the seating downstairs is cleaner and less packed then upstairs and we decided to venture there so we could all charge our phones. While the section of the airport we were in was a "U" shape, it was small but long. It seemed that the similar restaurants were on both sides but closed for inside seating and the bar was packed. not exactly how we thought we were spending the entire day before take off. The other bad thing is NOT ONE airport employee could tell us about our flight or why the gate kept changing. All-in-all it is much cheaper to fly from this airport, however, I just wish my first experience was much better. I would probably try again, now knowing what I can expect. read more

These two girls on the phone the whole time not wanting to help passengers find their gate number and just leaning and texting behind the counter. Lazy butt. The flights get delayed a lot but, it's not for long, the most I've ever waited was 35 minutes. There's parking in the lots and on the street which is nice because it's free especially if you're only going for a few days. Most of the routine fliers do it all the time. We love to fly out of this airport because of those factors alone, and bring your ear buds and an extra charger. When we need a cart to carry our luggage, they're all over the place and no charge; can't beat it. read more
