I found this place on Yelp so it's only right that I review my experience. I was a first timer Brazilian and had no idea what I was doing. Alex was highly recommended on here so I made an appointment with her. Everyone I talked to really hyped up the pain of a first time Brazilian, so naturally I was terrified. Immediately, Alex made me feel comfortable and put me at ease. She gave me clear instructions on what to do ad made conversation the whole time. It was not awkward at any moment and, surprise, barely even hurt! Alex explained that the hard wax used at Affinity is less painful and shows better results than strip wax. I can now say this is something I plan to continue all summer long. It's so convenient not having to worry about shaving "down there", and even better knowing I have a person to go to who is amazing at her job. Affinity is a little pricey ($67 for the wax plus 20% tip) but it's completely worth it to me. read more

I made an appointment with this place yesterday for a conditioning treatment and trim for my 9 year old daughter. I typically do not put my personal information into databases as I do no feel comfortable with it. I go to take my daughter, walk in and am told I do not have an appointment. Candice, the individual in the front, stated without a last name she couldn't get an appointment for her. I told her I already made one yesterday. Then she goes into some diatribe about human trafficking, in front of my daughter, and how she has taken classes and it's an indicator that I'm potentially human trafficking my daughter. I was appalled by her behavior and felt discriminated against because I'm a man. My daughter has been going to this place for years. Even donated her hair to cancer patients there. I cannot believe that I was accused of human trafficking at a hair salon. To top it off, if she was truly concerned about it, she would have take. My daughter in the back and called the police, like human trafficking training tells you to do. I went back to try and reason with her after talking to my wife and still accused me of human trafficking. Thanks Affinity. read more

The worst haircut I have ever received. I have never asked for my money back for salon services until now. I had called this salon after doing some research online and wanted a specific haircut. I called and explained to the girl on the phone what I wanted and she paired me with the owner. I showed up for my appointment and was met by a girl named Lisa. Lisa proceeded to lead me to her chair. As I sat down I got my phone out and started to explain that I am looking to eventually have a long inverted bob. I liked the length I had, but wanted the shape of the inverted bob in the back. I explained that I like my sides long because I have an oval face shape and I like to cover my double chin. I said I was thinking about doing an undercut on the side of my head. That explanation maybe took 6o seconds. She had NO interest in what I said nor an interest in looking at the pictures. She then said I needed to make a decision by the time I got done with the shampoo. I just then said nevermind about the undercut. She then shampooed my hair, got back in the chair and she grabbed the back of my hair and just chopped it off. Long story short. She wasn't the owner, she didn't ask me any questions or what I wanted. No consulting with me, no interest. No sectioning, no texturing, no evening, no shaping, nothing! She was awful! I was in and out of there in 30 minutes. That was shampoo, cut, and style. And she talked without cutting my hair for about 10 of those minutes. She didn't even out my hair. Shape it, nothing. I cried the who way home, then cancelled my weekend plans. I wish I could convey the experience I had through this text. This girl should never ever cut anyone's hair. Never. There is a huge chunk out of the back of my hair. She cut off my sides. I am a Sales Manager for a large Corporation and I look like a 4 year old cut my hair. This by far is the worst experience I have ever had at a salon. Would never ever recommend this place. I wish I could upload my pictures, but I don't see the option. Well I gave this place a second try. Called in the morning and was happy that I could get an appointment with the owner at 3 pm, since he had a cancellation. Thought to myself... what a great opportunity! ... got there at 2:55 pm, checked in.... by 3:17 no sign of anyone to get me or greet me... just heard conversations asking where is .... the owner... well he is in his office ... so after 20 minutes, I decided that my time is as important as his. Since he charges 72 for a haircut, and I came to great clips... I believe I ought to take myself out to a great restaurant with the 50 I have saved. I have mean hair that misbehaves that takes a good stylist to cut it properly. Lisa at Affinity is that stylist. She not only can make my thick, wavy, frizzy hair look good on its worst day, but she can cut it so that I can manage it until my next cut. And she's also fun to talk to while you're in her chair. :) The waxing services at the spa are also great. I use Saundra.. Front desk is super friendly and helpful as well. read more

I have only used this Salon for the Aesthetician and it was a wonderful experience. The wax they use here only removes the hair and doesn't use the strips that rip off the top layer of skin. They are very reasonably priced for the level of service that I received. I can't wait to go back! read more

I had a haircut and color here with Anna? Annie? I am not sure. I know she is like a second or third generation stylist, but I am terrible with names. She was really FAST! And I think that is awesome. I don't like to hang out and have it take all day when getting my hair done, and she is really efficient and talented. She is young, but you can tell she has a lot of experience. Both fast hair and good, I am sold. It took like less than 2 hours to get the cut and full head color. The whole thing cost about $100-120ish? I don't remember because i bought some products and tipped too. I think it was closer to 100, and that is a great price for such high-quality service. The salon is really big and they have nice equipment and use good products (Aveda). The music varied across a range of hipster, but it wasn't off-putting. It was kinda fun. She was very professional, thorough, easy going, and made sure I had a good experience ( so much better than my past Brazilians at other locations). Spa seemed nice when I walked in and I was promptly greeted by one of the receptionist. I had booked an appointment with Alexandria a few days earlier for a Brazilian wax. I didn't have to wait long at all for her to come get me for my appointment. She was super friendly and The esthetician room was small but cozy. Alexandria was very professional, and made me feel completely comfortable. This was awesome considering how close and personal we were about to get. Alexandria was fast and did a great job with my Brazilian. I know a lot of people don't talk about getting waxed but I think this spa deserves credit for such a good job. read more

This is an Aveda salon with full service. I got a great haircut from Libby, then went back for color. She did exactly what I wanted, and I have heard rave reviews from many about the other hair stylists, too. If I ever walked in without an appointment, I'd do it with no qualms. Regarding the spa services, I had a bikini wax and facial (2 different times) from Amanda, who was awesome (and many people in town know her by name). I don't think I have ever been able to get the same service and level of skill out of any other aesthetician. A recent transplant to Ohio, I spent many a day worrying about where I could get a bikini wax. When I couldn't afford to wait any longer, I made an appointment at Affinity Spa and Salon. I was very impressed upon arrival. I was greeted immediately, the facilities were clean and orderly, and I was offered a drink as someone took my coat. I scheduled my wife's visit weeks in advance but when I went to confirm they couldn't deliver. My wife even talked to them a couple of weeks out to make sure. I called them the day prior to confirm and pay for the services but whomever I talked to said the reservation wasn't right and she would have to call me back. She didn't. I stopped by on my way home to double check because now I'm concerned that something isn't right (it wasn't) and to pay. When I walked in I was greeted politely but when she started talking about the massage I knew there was something wrong. I very specifically asked that she get a female masseuse but instead they scheduled a male to do it. They mentioned that the male was blind, if that made any difference to me. It didn't and wasn't my request, it's my wife's preference. They said they didn't have anyone else but had someone who could do a relaxation massage. The spa day was for her birthday and I had to cancel because they couldn't or didn't follow my requests. I could have easily rescheduled if they had told me they didn't have a female to do the massage but they didn't. She wasn't going to get what she needed out of the massage so there was little point in keeping the rest of the appointment. They also didn't have a facial scheduled for her, which I specifically requested as well. I was sorely disappointed with their customer service and they really didn't seem to care that I'll never spend a dime in that place. read more

Don't waste time buying a spa package here . They are not really a spa you only get fitted in if your regular client. So if want to something nice for love one then your loved has wait months just to try to get appointment. The booking people do not even know what the packages included. Had my first waxing appointment (Brazilian & full legs) with Alex last Saturday. She is super friendly and puts you at ease instantly. She didn't get annoyed with my chatty Cathy tendencies. I haven't been waxed since giving birth to my son nearly 5 years ago so, I was nervous about the pain and what to expect. It still hurts (no surprise there) but having an easy going conversation the entire session with Alex took my mind off the business at hand. We actually have a lot in common. It also helped that she talks/walks you through all the steps of the waxing process. She explains it all clearly and concisely. She is very knowledgeable, skilled and professional. One of the most important things about getting this type of service done is cleanliness! Alex was exemplary with this aspect as well; she NEVER double dipped with the wax applicator sticks (which has happened to me before at other spas in the Dayton area and in my native MI) and of course she washed her hands prior to starting and wore gloves the entire time. I am a bit of a germaphobe so seeing/knowing that this esthetician does take the necessary and appropriate protocols in proper sanitation and hygiene was a relief and one less thing to worry about. All in all, this appointment has to be the best I have ever had to date in terms of waxing. I recommend Alex with no hesitation and will definitely be back for her services. I must say the spa as a whole from the little I saw of it was very clean and all the staff I interacted with were pleasant and accommodating. Give them a try, you won't regret it! read more

12/24/2015 - A great Christmas gift to myself. This was my first visit to Affinity Salon. A friend had recommended Craig to me for a haircut. I was greeted warmly in the reception area and was helped with my coat. In my experience just these two practices were exceptional for a beauty salon. Lynn offered me a morning drink and took me on a tour of the facility and I met Craig who would cut my strong, thick hair. Craig was exceptional in that he actually listened to my expectations which included minimal texturing of my hair. Lynn gave me a scalp massage and shampooed my hair. This was pure luxury and I appreciated the care Lynn gave to me in this process. This was the best haircut I ever received and Craig gave me many suggestions for home care of my hair. I will return to Affinity in six weeks. read more

I read every review I could find online before booking my appointment. Having received horrible hair cuts from my ever previous stylist, I needed someone that knew what they were doing to correct the mess. I have naturally curly fine hair that can be ruined if cut incorrectly, and it was. I chose Craig because of his international training and his reputation. From the moment I sat in the chair I was amazed at his level of caring and perfectionism. He analyzed my hair, color, my brow color and even the shade of lipstick I was wearing. He saw immediately what needed to be done and repeated every issue I had been having trying to control my hair and it all was related to incorrect cutting in the past. This was not the average Dayton Ohio salon experience. Craig explained every issue, told me what to do at home and when I left, I had perfectly balanced hair, tinted brows and a natural healthy look.
