I contacted Affordable Computer Repair by DJ for a reset on a new computer. Seems like a simple request right... My experience started w/a call. I called the # listed & the voicemail asked me to call a different # (no big deal). I called the # & told him that I had a new computer in the box that I purchased under 2yrs ago & never used it, & it went back to the original settings. I gave him the stats off the box & said that I wanted it reset. He told me that he could reset it & recommend replacing my hardware, because he said that my computer would run slow now, because it's over a old & I would need more space. I told him that I didn't understand how a new, never used computer could need new hardware replaced.. it just wasn't making sense to me. He suggested upgrading to a new hardware w/setup for $275. The price & recommendation seemed a little excessive for a new computer, so a asked for a quote for setup w/Windows installation only & he said $175. I told him that I needed to think this over, because for a few more hundred dollars, I could buy a new computer, but why would I buy another new computer, when I took mine out of the box? After my conversation w/DJ, I decided to get a 2nd opinion, & I'm so glad that I did! I ended up going somewhere else (We Save Data), saving hundreds of dollars, & receiving same day service w/more added features. I learned a valuable lesson... just because something says affordable, doesn't mean it's affordable /ethical. read more

My wifi stopped working in my gaming laptop. I don't use it for gaming, but I do use it for work, though I didn't tell him that. I needed a quick turn around, though I didn't tell him that either. I got it to him late on Saturday and he got it back to me early on Tuesday (his next business day) with a replacement wifi card and a very cost-effective solution. DJ was a pretty chill guy. He works from home and his small office is off of their nature garden. Pretty peaceful view, and DJ says he did most of the work himself. I purchased a broken laptop that needed either a power connector or motherboard. I was gonna repair it myself but found DJ my phone's nav app on my day off. He ended up building up enough solder on the MB to get power to the connector. $75 and worth every penny. It'd cost that much for a decent solder-gun and flux, not to mention my time. Would recommend. His prices are fair for the work done, and he doesn't have a conflict of interest since he's not a PC retailer. Had my laptop back the next day. I'd give him my business any day. Well, I am typing on my computer so things are good now. The estimate I was given by Best buy was $100(w.out adding the new charger) more than DJ ended up fixing my computer. He also had been backed up and still fixed my computer in two days. Best Buy would've taken half a month. I thought I was lost at first when I went here but when I called they said I was in the right area. So, turned around and left it off. I would suggest calling in advance since it is a house run business. I've never had a smoother transaction with someone fixing anything. He really knows his stuff and is clearly very quick. This man was very rude to me. He cut me off several times and was very irate (he raised his voice to me with a rude tone) when I asked him questions about pricing and timing. I asked him the basics like how long generally it takes, ball park figure etc. nothing extreme. I was so put off by the way he spoke to me I decided to go to Global PC and they were wonderful, answered my questions and were kind. Recommended by my brother, Joshua, I brought by HP DV-2000 to DJ after resigning it to junk, parts only, and the dust bunnies beneath my bed for over a year. After all, this is the second laptop HP sent me after the first did the same thing the second did---but while under warranty---and kicked the bucket. I did my own personal best troubleshooting and trying to fix the hunk of junk. The monitor just quit and after following advice on forums, tweaking the hardware, I quit. BestBuy wanted to charge me $60 to diagnose, which I decided against, and their tech staff suggested buying a new hard drive. Well, that was a no go. Long story short, I took it to DJ. For $25 he ran complete diagnosis and the next morning calls to tell me he had it up and running. He told me that like other models like mine he'd worked on, the fan overheats causing the video to die. For a mere $125, diagnosis included, he'd take it apart and create a better ventilation system to help prevent such from occurring again AND add a free Macafee Antivirus. I called DJ to get help with two things: replacing a touchpad and diagnosing a problem that an IT guy told me was probably either a hard drive or motherboard problem. DJ was really hostile on the phone. He apparently didn't like me asking him questions (e.g., about how we could proceed with the touchpad so that I wouldn't be without my work computer while waiting for the part to come in). Not only was his tone really antagonistic, but after he said no to working on the touchpad, he said he couldn't help me with the other problem. He doesn't do that kind of work, he said... even though his website says "Troubleshoot - Hard Drives & Motherboards." I was really surprised by his reaction, until I came here and saw several reviews about him being rude and irate. DJ has the right to choose his customers, of course. And people can choose where to go. Sounds from the other reviews that he's a great tech, but only if you don't annoy him. read more

If you're even remotely within driving distance of Dave, take your computer to him. Hands down the best service you could ask for. My HP dv2000 was freezing every 3 minutes (literally rebooted it about 50 times over the course of a day and a half). Diagnosis came back that the harddrive was kaput. In only 2 business days, and for $200 Dave got me a better and bigger harddrive, updated my godawful Vista to Windows 7, cleaned my fan, dumped all the bloatware that has plagued my computer performance since I got it in '06, AND saved my documents (including all my wedding pictures)! He was personable, honest and informative, keeping me up to date throughout the process. Much more individual attention than you could ever hope to receive from a big box store "expert team". IF I ever have trouble again (which I don't necessarily expect, after all the improvements he made), I wouldn't take it anywhere else. read more

DJ was fast, affordable, honest, and very good. At the end of the day, it was going to cost more to fix my laptop than it would cost to replace it. After taking the time to look at it, note all the things that were fried inside (long story, but the laptop was basically submerged in wine), and estimate the cost to repair, he advised me to make a decision that was in my best interest even though he would have made more money if I had opted to fix it. I could not have asked for better given the circumstances. I did glance around his small, but well equipped workshop and it's hard not to notice how organized and apparently meticulous he is - just what I would want from the man fixing my computer. I read several reviews bashing this business because of a bad phone call. It's probably not the right idea to call a busy computer repair guy and hope to have a long, friendly conversation over the phone while he's trying to work. I had a Dell Computer with an outdated operating system. I continued to use it until it developed serious hardware problems. I called and made an appointment with DJ. And he saw me soon, even though he was busy. I did not know the area and a very nice patient woman gave me directions by telephone all the way to his shop. Just like an automobile mechanic, it is difficult to find someone honest and straightforward to work on your computer. DJ is that way. He sat with me for a while doing a quick review of the computer and immediately found some things that were broken. He did not rush me out the door. My computer needed help. The mouse wasn't even working! He connected my computer to one of his to to get into my system. He said that he could put in a newer operating system, but first wanted to spend some time to see if the machine was any good before I spent money installing anything. I told him that I was really worried about losing all of my documents and photographs. I had not backed everything up. I had a thumb drive with me and he spent time putting everything onto that thumb drive. What a relief! Of course he had to charge for that, but it was not much, and he saved thousands of hours of work. I left the computer with him to check, and he called within a short time to tell me that the computer was not worth spending any more money on. He could have repaired the computer, put in a new operating system, and then have it crash in a short time. He could have made more money that way. He did not. He was honest. He is worth his weight in gold. I will never take any computer of mine to anyone else. People need to know about him, and that they can feel confident having him check their computers, knowing that he will NOT rip them off. read more
