First of all the office personnel were knowledgeable with our questions and quickly set up to have the on site estimate done. From there we again had questions on the finish so we visited the office showroom to have them walk through the options. In the showroom we realized just how many different things this company builds and no doubt we will return for future projects. We needed some fencing pronto and a neighbor recommended these guys. They came out and took measurements. We agreed on the fence we wanted. We agreed on the natural rust look. We picked a gate from their website. It was a combo of engineered wood and iron. There was a SNAFU or two with installation. Some guys don't read work orders carefully, and some don't take as much pride in their work as others. I made my concerns known to gal on the phone. Got a call from Nick and he made sure those problems were addressed in a timely manner. The repair crews worked with me to get the aesthetics with the front gate squared away. It took some problem solving, but they were game. Recently, the bottom hinge just broke on the gate. They sent someone pronto to fix it. I think you are just plain lucky when custom work goes without a hitch. I expect there to be some minor issues in execution. What matters then is "customer service". Their's worked. They stepped up and owned the problems with the execution and made it right. What more do you need to know? read more

I almost dropped $17k on fencing... when my husband stopped me and said- " before you put that $8.5k check in the mail let's look into our zoning etc." when we looked into our zoning (rural Catalina) we learned we can't have a solid privacy fence in our front yard... it must be see through. So a licensed contractor fence company was about to waste nearly $20k of our money on a fence that would've been illegal to have in our area. Buyer beware. You may flush lots of money on something you shouldn't have installed. I circled back with the gentleman who gave us the estimate asking about our zoning and having a solid fence in the front yard. He replied back about permits which had nothing to do with what I asked. I asked again and he told me they dont have time to keep up with regulations... that's my arena... that was never clearly communicated to me- normally contractors handle logistics. Now this is not my first rodeo- I'm a real estate investor and have dealt with numerous contractors and fence contractors. I mean that's why you hire licensed contractors right? So that's my experience with this company. I will continue my search and make sure whoever I do hire checks regulations for my property. We asked AFG to give us a quote on replacing two gates, one about 3 feet tall, one about 5 feet tall. Back in June, 2020, "Dave" came out ... and as part of his sales pitch assured us that each gate would have four (4) anchors into the posts. We specifically relied on this promise because the bigger gate which we were replacing had pulled out of its anchors. We paid, what I consider an astonishing amount of money, almost $3,000.00 for two gates and installation, and were promised a 30-day turn around. 30-days came and went. 60-days came and went. Eventually after we'd phoned them a couple of times, about 90-120 days after we paid our ~$3,000.00, installers came out. Well, one gate, the taller one, works like a charm -- despite the fact that, breaking the promise "Dave" had made AFG only used 3 anchors ... and in fact, actually re-used the existing holes! The shorter gate -- the gate AFG was replacing worked flawlessly, and we decided to 'upgrade' mainly to match the 5' gate on the other side of the house. However, when he was finished the installed told us that because of some fabrication error at the AFG factory, the latch had to be adjusted and so, instead of a nice, smooth operation, we'd have to "press on" the latch to get it to latch. This did not seem like much of a problem, although it was disappointing to see that, now, the gate was much harder to close than the one it was replacing. But, this smaller gate from that point got worse, and worse and worse, and now we have to slam it to get it to even close, and then use great force to get it to latch. As this started happening, I began to inspect the gate, not really knowing what the installer had done ... and I discovered that it was not the fabrication at the factory that caused the problem, it was the installation. It is crooked/twisted. We paid a huge amount of money for perfectly looking and perfectly working gates. We didn't even remotely get what we paid for. In fact, we got a gate that is worse than no gate at all. read more

We've emailed and called asking for timeframes and next steps but all we get are empty promises and excuses. From the very first phone call to set up an estimate Affordable Fence and Gates was amazing. I had previously received an insane quote from a competitor (almost twice the cost!), that was going to take weeks to complete once started. I was disheartened to say the least, but was so happy once I spoke with AF&G. They sent someone (David) out quickly and he provided me with an estimate within a day. The estimate was more than fair, and very thorough. I appreciated all of the detail that went into the estimate (unlike the other guy) and he spent time answering my myriad of questions. Once I paid the deposit, I understood it would be 8-12 weeks before work could begin (they are understandably busy, they do such quality work!). As promised I received a call about 7 weeks later asking if the following week would work for me. They estimated 3 days to compete the job (almost 300 feet of steel fence with gates). The day of service two men (Steven and Abdon) showed up right on time. They were kind, incredibly hard working and timely! I was amazed that just the two of them could remove my old fence and install the new one in three days, but they did. They worked consistently through each day, picking up as they went and (importantly) being so patient with my neighbors barking dogs. They were also so patient with me as I walked around with family on video chat bragging about my new fence and showing them progress. Our house backs a heavily trafficked alley, and they worked extra hard one day to get the fence up so that we had more security over night. Often times people are different in front of the customer than they are in private. My neighbor spent a lot of time outside and she kept gushing about how kind and polite they were. Any time I spoke with the two gentlemen they had impeccable manners, and were just overall incredibly pleasant. None of the niceties matter if the end product isn't good. But my fence and gates are AMAZING. I didn't know how happy a well made fence could make me! It is a strong fence, not going anywhere. The gates swing perfectly, and lock securely. I really could not be happier and I highly recommend that anyone looking for an affordable fence or gate not look any further. Give them a call today! read more
