When I say coffee shop, Afro Joes is what I'm looking for. Great customer service, cozy interior, natural light, drink specials and light bites! The short rib grilled cheese is THEE sandwich to order. Their cucumber salad on the side is amazing. This time I ordered the Blue Magic which is an ice latte with blueberry and lavender flavored topped with strawberry cold foam. I love earthy flavors so this was perfect. I also ordered the butternut squash danish. It was very flaky and the filling wasn't too sweet. A nice compliment to my drink. My mom ordered the Kayla Chai which she said was good! I've been a loyal customer. I even send guest from my Airbnb and family whenever they are in town. I'm highly disappointed today. Ordered my usually and instead of duck bacon it has regular bacon which I can't eat. They basically said they couldn't replace it because they don't make mistakes and it wasn't on the receipt. So I was instructed to throw it in the garbage and no type of replacement would be given. What a way to treat people. We all know things happen. $16 waisted. read more

I was greeted with a warm welcome and friendly recommendations. I got 2 Cortados (not pictured, but delicious), a Chai Latte (it was ok), and the Out West + Chicken Bacon Ranch Wraps (both great). Came in for a latte, left with a whole Vibe!! Shout out to owner Kendall (who was gracious enough to take a pic with us) who was hands-on the entire time we were there. When your owner works alone side staff, I'd say business is good! The live music was a pleasant surprise. The artist definitely did her thing. It was like being at a jazz café in the middle of the morning. I had one of the salads, filling and delicious ! My companions had the Englewood sandwich. Very good! Of course I got my iced lavender latte with oat milk. I appreciated the non-dairy alternative. Even though I live clear across the city, I would definitely make this trip again... and again. First time at Afro Joe's and honestly, I wish I'd come sooner. I grabbed a chocolate croissant and a hot chocolate--nothing fancy, but together they were kind of perfect. The croissant was golden and flaky, with a layer of chocolate on top, soft and buttery inside. Fresh enough that little flakes ended up all over me, but totally worth it. The hot chocolate deserves a shoutout. Rich, creamy, real chocolate flavor, none of that watered-down stuff. Super smooth, velvety, and it stayed warm the whole time. Dipping pieces of croissant into it made the morning feel extra cozy. The staff was friendly, the vibe was chill, and I didn't wait long. You can tell they care, even in something as simple as a croissant and hot chocolate. I'm definitely coming back, probably for a breakfast sandwich or an espresso next time. read more

Great place to "work from home" or take less formal in-person meetings. I was able to conveniently order online. Pick up food at the food counter, which is completely visible as the staff prepares the food fresh as it's ordered. Drinks can be picked up on the other side of the establishment. Warmer months see indoor and outdoor/patio seating. There's a small parking lot with free parking, and free one-hour parking on the street. I had the South Side Short Rib Grilled Cheese with a Lavender Lemonade. Both come highly recommended and did not disappoint. I look forward to exploring more of the menu! read more

This has become my go-to for breakfast/lunch. All of my food orders have been great. Today I tried the breakfast burrito, very good and a nice portion size. The last time, I tried the salad with chicken and blue cheese, also very good. The people are also very nice, I've especially had pleasant interactions with the owner who is approachable and friendly. read more

Such a good vibe. This place was bustling with business. They have a parking lot that can get full fast. I got the lavender lemonade and it was so tasty. I am speechless from visiting this beautiful spot that is bursting with character. From the art on the wall to the thoughtfully placed seating area, I can tell this place was poured into with love when it was designed. Ahh, this is such a great vibe! Great drinks, really good food, and the environment is very welcoming (if you can find a place to sit)! I've been here twice now - of I lived in the area, this would definitely be my regular hangout. On Saturdays, they have live music that plays in the afternoon - no ticket or registration needed, just come, buy something, relax and enjoy! I love Afro Joe's! Great coffee, great ambiance, wonderful owners and employees who always greet you with a smile. They genuinely care about their customers. I prefer my coffee straight up rather than fancy coffee drinks and Afro Joe's delivers on this count. Though I've never had any of the food served, people in the neighborhood rave about how good it is. This place reminds me of the coffee joints I used to hang out in when I was in grad school before they were all done in by a certain rubber-stamp coffee chain out of the Pacific Northwest. And FYI, I'm "the typewriter guy" you see on Sunday mornings. Great place for writers and artists of all sorts to meet and mingle. read more

Afro Joe's was a recommendation so I visited for lunch on my day off work. If I could give Afro Joes 10 out of 10 stars I would! This was my first ever visit and I could tell immediately the place had great vibes. Orange color scheme and design which looked happy and bright. Parking: Parking lot and street parking. Place looked close to public transportation. A cute dog park is close to parking lot. Outdoor and indoor dining available. I was warmly greated by staff near the register/coffee bar. I ordered the Englewood Sandwich and chips to go. A buzzer is given to customer and activates/buzzes when order was ready. Sandwich was delicious; grilled roasted turkey breast sandwich on sourdough bread, panini style and toasted perfectly. Check their menu for all sandwich ingredients-all flavors in sandwich were excellent. A full menu of coffees, breakfast, lunch and desserts were on display. For months, I had a reminder in my phone to go to Afro Joe's. For months, I never made my way to the Far South Side. When I did, it was too late to get to Afro Joe's. Today, I followed through on the reminder and I got there early enough to properly enjoy it. I ordered a latte and a BLT. I give them high marks for whatever beans they used because the coffee had a natural sweetness to it, as if it had been cold brewed and then heated. No, there was no sugar added. I can attest to that. As to the BLT, they put it on grilled sourdough bread that made the flavor stand out more than it would have it had been on white bread or even on wheat bread. There was a constant bustle of customers coming and going, as well as taking coffee for a sit-down. I noticed lots of customers bringing their laptops and getting in some work or personal surfing. It's easy to see how the quality of the coffee and food along with the welcoming service could have individuals become repeat customers. I'm glad that I finally made my way down to the South Side to try out Afro Joe's. I'm sure I will get back over time. read more

I loved Afro Joe's. It sits pretty far off of the road (99th st.) so I passed it up the first time. They have a small parking lot, which is a god send in a city environment. It's a really nice space with room our front for good-weather gatherings, and they have a space for dogs (not a fan of restaurants catering to animals, but at least it's outside). I loved the staff..very friendly and chatty. I chose to have the Caramel Apple Cider and Avocado Toast for breakfast. 10 out of 10. 3 healthy slices of Avocado Toast on soursough was so good, but I couldn't finish the 3rd piece. The cider was perfect. I planned to order a pastry later, but changed my mind. I will definitely grab one next time. The options looked amazing. The only down side to my visit was that it was so loud. I came in to work, and the environment wasn't conducive to that. There was a large group holding a meeting, and I wished that the establishment protected the other patrons a bit more. They were very loud. I watched as the group kept adding chairs and tables to their sexrion, pushing a patron further and further back, interrupting his work and really invading his space. They stood in the walkway of other patrons walking and it just felt really intrusive. The place is not large, so they should consider using the back space for large groups to ensure other patrons still have a good experience. I'll definitely be back to see if it's more work-friendly without a large group being there. I was also told they have live music on Saturdays! read more

I've always came to this hitting Jam on the Southside area in the Beverly neighborhood they are superb at serving exactly what you want and requested today I ordered the Vincennes rap and let me tell you it was so good especially if you're a cilantro and avocado lover. The coffee was amazing! Especially as an artist, the decor is super cool. Also love the exposed brick and bright natural light. There's a lot of traffic!! They need a second and/or bigger location. Only 2 workers, a barista and cashier, behind the register and they seemed over worked but the service never fell short, all tips are well deserved. The cooks are ensync, so cool to be able to see the food being made! The layout is totally dope!! Prices are very affordable and portions looked large! There's a parking lot and outdoor seating.
