The home is on a large corner lot and has a large gated driveway and a very pretty entry way. I met with Arsen who is the Administrator and he was vey kind and pleasant. The caregivers were lovely and greeted me as I toured. The home was beautiful, super clean and spacious. The covered and enclosed patio was wonderful and perfect space for activities and crafts. The bedrooms were large and they offer single or shared rooms. All the residents were enjoying their meals during the time of my visit. You can see how much the care givers love and take very great care of each resident. I love how big the back yard is for residents to garden, walk and exercise. Compared to other board and cares, this home stands out and I would definitely place my loved one here. I prefer a smaller assisted living compared to a large facility because of ratio to resident care is more one on one care. Highly recommend touring.

I wanted to find a place that was not an institutional warehouse of the elderly and thankfully found it at Be Well Senior Living on Varna Ave. They take wonderful care of her and we see her everyday as we try to keep her integrated in our family. She has a private room with a view of trees, roses and gardenias. Also, they cater to her special diet (no gluten or diary due to seizures) so I don't have to worry (this is a nightmare in other facilities). There are always at least 2 caregivers, sometimes 3 who are wonderful - patient and kind when my mom can be a handful at times. There is a maximum of 5 other residents so she can be social if she is so inclined. Russ & Elina are wonderful to work with! Through the entire process of finding my mom a suitable place, they were understanding, patient and answered all of my questions. They keep us informed of any changes or issues that arise and are fantastic resources for my mom. For example, my mom needed a haircut and they recommended Stacey Harris. She then became my mom's massage therapist and friend. Sometimes, my mom plays bingo with Elina's son, who is such a charming young man. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing to find care for a loved one, Be Well Senior Living is the best you will find!

What a pleasant relief!!!…read more After a truly disappointing and stressful experience at a "fancy" senior living community that took advantage of my mom and her health needs--starting us at one price and doubling it within a year--we finally found Be Well Board and Care in Sherman Oaks, and I cannot express enough what a blessing it's been. Unlike the other place, Be Well is a beautiful, exceptionally clean home with the most outstanding caregivers I've ever met. My mom has her own private room and bathroom, and the neighborhood is absolutely charming. From day one, Russ and Alina have been truly caring and made the transition as smooth as possible for both my mom and my brothers and me. At the "fancy" place, we dreaded every phone call because it was always another problem, another issue, another source of stress. At Be Well, it's the opposite--they call to share how well she's doing, not to create anxiety. I no longer live in constant worry. In the beginning, the transition was a little challenging--mom was confused and needed time to adjust. But caregiver Lisa, along with the rest of the team, showed such incredible patience and compassion, making the move peaceful for her. Now my mom absolutely loves it there, especially Lisa. Where to start......My mother in law has been living at AvantGarde for 2 weeks - she has Dementia…read more(short term memory issues) and it was getting to the point where she needed not only care but stimulation. The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.

Well, after a few days visiting her here, my father said he wanted to move in too, because he liked it here so much. They have both been here for four months now, and we are all very happy. Maro and George, the owners, really make mom and dad feel like a part of their family. Their young daughter visits often, and calls my mom "Grandma".The house is located in a lovely residential neighborhood, and it feels like a real home. It is beautifully decorated, and has a lovely backyard with a fully gated pool and wonderful outdoor seating area. My dad sits outside and reads the paper in the morning and listens to the birds. Family visits are encouraged, and we sit outside often when we come to visit. This is not a nursing home, and the staff are caregivers, not nurses, but both mom and dad's health is watched over and cared about. The staff show concern for the well-being of their residents. We have had many conversations about medicine needs, possible changes, and the effectiveness of new medications, so when I talk to mom and dad's doctors about their health, I can answer knowledgeably. The meals and snacks served are healthy and delicious. They serve organic fruit and vegetables. Mom and dad enjoy the healthy meals, snacks and desserts. My dad has some kidney issues and his recent tests have shown improvement, and the doctor said it is probably because of his improved diet. Their caregivers are wonderful. Aida treats mom and dad with respect, and knows when to use humor, or when to be serious. She also know when to help, and when to encourage self-reliance. Ani is always ready to lend a hand when mom stands up, and shows she truly cares with patience and nurturing. The house, kitchen and yard are kept spotlessly clean. I am voluntarily writing this review, because I want people to know how happy we are that mom and dad live here. If your loved one is active but needs some assistance with daily living and wants a lively, vibrant setting to live in, where they will feel like part of the family, not an institution, I highly recommend Sky Light Residential.

Unfortunately I work full time and mom needed 24 hour care. The 1st place she lived was OK but she was left alone in her room all the time and wound up breaking her arm in two places. I was not notified for 6 hours. It was run by a husband and wife team and the husband passed away and the wife could no longer keep it going. The second place my mom went was a Board and Care that did not make it through the pandemic. I contacted A Place for Mom and they told me all about Amy's Mom and Dads Retreat. The second I walked in I knew I had found a place for my mom to live that was not just a Board and Care but a cozy home. Amy the owner is amazingly kind, proficient, and loving. Her caring staff meets my mom's every need and I never have to worry about her there. She has friends, a beautiful room. and everything is spotless. Amy keeps me informed on anything and everything. My mom has been there for years and I have zero complaints. I highly recommend Mom and Dad's Retreat and would not want my mother to go anywhere else.

She had a fall in June 2023 which caused her to require a higher level of care than she could get at her assisted living facility. We visited a dozen board and care facilities and Amy's stood out far above the rest. It was an easy choice and proved to be the right one in so many ways. It is truly a "home" because the caregivers really do treat the residents like family. The injury caused by the fall left my mother bedridden. This meant she needed a tremendous amount of physical care (e.g. she could not feed herself, bathe or go to the bathroom) which the caregivers at Amy's always provided with a smile. She also suffered a severe cognitive decline which, at times, caused her to be difficult or demanding. Again, her caregivers showed truly remarkable patience in dealing with her during this difficult time. Mom and Dads Retreat is the place to send your loved ones if you want them to be taken care of the way you would yourself.
