You really do feel the opulence as you drive through the mirador entrance up this long driveway to get to the library. Free parking but it does get packed since many people also park here to access the hiking trails next to the library. This is a beautiful library and many people do come here to study as I noticed most tables were filled. However, there is a loud buzzing sound from the lights but I guess it becomes background white noise if you are used to it. Portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Brand, their family and how the library was are on the library walls so you can learn more about how it all started. The art gallery this time around has an exhibit from Thinkspace, featuring artwork of over 70 artists, on now until March 29, 2025. I really enjoyed the art pieces and took photos of the ones that really impressed me. The grounds features Brand Park, the Japanese tea house (closes early like 3pm), Doctor's House, which is a historical house, and a couple of hiking trails. Overall, a cool place to check out and just 15 minutes away north from downtown Glendale if you need to grab a bite to eat.

I have been going to Alexandra's class for the last 7 years. Her class is the best art class I ever…read moreattended. She shows demos for different drawing and painting projects and gives helpful critique and feedback on our work. She created easy to follow steps for us to understand difficult cast, face or figure drawings and paintings. She gives amazing anatomy lectures and demos on understading bones and muscles and drawing them. Her painting mathod of starting from big planes and gradually going to smaller planes and details is wonderful and very helpful. She also has an incredible pallette and methods to avoid seeing any dirty colors in any painting. She even helps us find creative subjects for our projects. Each of Alexandra's students create outstanding and at the same time different body of works due to her individual help and attention.

So basically, I am in love with this studio! I have learned so much from Alexandra that no one else has ever been able or attempted to teach me. Not only is she a great teacher, but her art is amazing! This restaurant is set in the Hauser and Wirth art Gallery complex and since we got there early we toured the front gallery with an incredible assist from a docent named Michael who pointed out the most incredible pieces and steered us to the gallery at the back of the complex behind Manuela's. Both galleries are worth exploring. THE GENERATIVE UNIVERSE In the main gallery, there was an exhibition of one artist work: Keith Tyson. His work begins from the belief that the universe operates as a single generative system--a continuously shifting causal network in which forms arise, transform and dissolve. Originally trained as an engineer, Tyson was an early practitioner of generative art, often approaching artmaking through the logic of systems and natural processes, allowing a blend of chance, material behavior, mathematics and intuition to shape the outcome. The work was thought provoking and with the help of Michael the docent/guard, we learned the importance of the work moving from the natural world to the blend with technology to the technological.

However, on the Time Out website I read that there would be free ice cream and biscuits and the courtyard looked amazing, so I finally decided to go. As an Angeleno my first concern is always parking. I read from previous reviewers that you could pay for valet for the onsite restaurant, Manuela, but when I looked at the menu it looked a bit expensive, so I didn't want to do that. Then I read another reviewer say they found street parking on Hewitt, but when I saw a parking enforcement car there it made me worried, so I ultimately settled on a $5 per hour lot where you could pay by text, which turned out the best since I could extend my stay through my phone when I decided to stay longer. They do trick you though because they'll open up other windows, so you have to make sure you're on the right window where you can extend, not pay for a new session altogether. The old flour mill is beautifully renovated. The exterior alone makes it look brand new. Walking in there's a long hall that leads to the amazing courtyard, but along the way you'll see exhibit rooms and a bookstore. In total I saw 2 big exhibit rooms, 1 small exhibit room, a screening room, a bookstore, and another garden off to the side in addition to the courtyard in the middle. The vibe was casual with people bringing their children and dogs, there was a live band playing salsa music, and a taco truck across the street where I bought my lunch then ate it at the courtyard which has tables and benches. As for the art itself, watching the screenings really does help because then you know what you're looking at. Like one of the pieces was a sculpture of monstrous faces on a marble pedestal. The artist explained that he saw eyes wherever there was a dot in the marble which inspired the faces on the sculpture. Since I didn't want to leave in the middle of the films or the live conversations with the artists themselves, I ended up missing out on the free ice cream, which sucked, but now I'm planning to visit Watts Towers in the future because of the film and panel afterward. It really is a nice space to visit even though I'm not a fan of modern art. At the very least this festival helped me understand some of it a little bit more.

It's a great spot for a peaceful walk, and the museum itself is very nice. I am amazed how many people from Glendale do not know and have never been. ​Here are a few highlights from my visit: ​The Views: You get a fantastic panoramic view of the city from the grounds. ​The Layout: There are two main buildings right next to each other, but keep in mind you'll need to drive to reach the third one. ​The Art: Don't miss the massive painting in the auditorium; it's located right behind the "church" entrance and the scale of it is incredible. ​Cost: It's completely free to enter! ​We ended up joining a guided tour, and I'm so glad we did because the background info they shared really brought the art to life. Very beautiful space…read more I came here for a small "UNPLUGGED" wedding ceremony. This place reminded me of my favorite childhood movie called The Secret Garden. A beautiful atmosphere that holds wonder, power, and magic. I felt special even though this day wasn't for me. Inside one of the rooms displayed beautiful art work from a man who happened to be there overseeing everything go down at the event. He is kind and tells good jokes about his art work and in general. The two ladies who own this place came by earlier and indeed are nice and friendly. Now that I know of this place maybe I, two will hold something magnificent in this small gem that is surrounded by a bustling city,

If you're a student or have EBT you can access this museum for free. Parking is free as well. You reserve your tickets online & just present your proof of ID for student or EBT. There are 2 floors to this museum & an outdoor garden as well. A mix of European art , modern pieces , sculptures , & Southeast asian art as well. I was here for a good 2 hours for my last visit since I was taking it all in. Once done, I love to grab some kettle chips & a signature drink from their cafe by the garden. I sit & journal for a bit then walk around the gardens. The small souvenir store is delightful in where you can purchase small or large prints of your favorite pieces. Books , trinkets, & museum merchandise is also available. I will come back for their next exhibit to see what other pieces will be displayed.

Nice local gallery showcasing the beautiful work of local artists…read more My friend and local artist John Schiavone invited me and some other friends to the Glendale Art Association Fall Salon. Many new pieces of art were on display from local artists. Part of proceeds of the sale of artwork go to Glendale schools. They had a lovely turnout. My friend had two beautiful paintings and one piece done with Prismacolor pencils. If you are in the area the show runs until October 27th. It is in the Montrose Shopping Area.
