We were now informed by a different guy that it would be 65€ if we paid by card, 55€ if we paid cash, but the lady next to the guy said it would be 60€ card and 55€ cash. What the hell? You can walk across the street and get a taxi to the airport for 40€. That's exactly what we ended up doing when we saw the price on the taxi window. There's always a taxi available from 8am-9pm so I would recommend doing that instead. Another night. We arrived around 10pm. There was a guy behind the counter that wouldn't stop staring at me as I was walking to the elevator, with my wife. I said ciao/hello. Instead of saying hello back. He asked what room number we were staying in. As far as the room. You can hear tables shifting above. They were doing work on the 400 floor and started around 8 or 9am. The blinds don't block out all of the sunlight. Needless to say. We never really got a chance to sleep in. On a positive note. The hotel is located within minutes from the high speed train station, bus stop and has plenty of shops nearby. The shower also had great pressure and maintained the temperature unlike the last 3 hotels we stayed at during this trip. WIFI is free and fast. There is a mini bar in the room, at a cost. We removed the stuff and used the mini fridge to store water bottles we purchased nearby. Even with the positives. The staff interaction was something that made us feel some type of way. Wouldn't recommend this place.

Safe and fridge in room. Free Wi-Fi worked well. Cons: The bed in room 702 was super low. It was like sleeping on the floor. Not that I was going to watch it, but the TV didn't work. Room furniture was showing its age (wear and tear). The tub side wall was high (I kept banging my foot getting in) and there was no shower curtain or shower door. The bathroom had a certain funk to it (maybe the bidet overflowed, and the scent was coming from the drain in the floor in the center of the bathroom?). On a non-hotel related note: Be careful on the number 2 bus to Venice. It's always crowded, and if a fat man tries to be helpful by telling you to scan your ticket, he's not. He wants to see where you keep your wallet. Then when the bus is moving, he fails to hang on to the straps, and flounders around to pick your pocket, getting off at the next stop. So beware and use caution.

Michele, the owner, took care of every detail for us. He greeted us at 1am (our flight arrived at midnight), showed us our room and had drinks waiting for us and he was there for our wonderful complimentary breakfast too! Every detail was taken care of. The Restaurant in the hotel was wonderful. We were a little worried at first because it was a very small restaurant but the food was amazing! We ended up eating dinner there about four nights out of the 7 nights of our stay! The hotel was conveniently located with the bus stop across the street. It took about 20 minutes to get to Venice by bus. Needless to say, we will be back!

We were pretty tired and unsure of location of Relais or bus system, so grabbed a taxi. About a 20 minute drive from the train station, we fell in love with the beauty of Relais and the charm of the staff. Alice greeted us so excitedly--I could name a future child after her as she was such a sweet woman! She was the first of each hotel to congratulate us for our honeymoon (David marked it in notes) AND they had a bottle of Prosecco for celebration. While we had discussed venturing into Venice for the evening, we were convinced to stay at the hotel and enjoy the restaurant there. Best decision ever!! We were comfortable in our room. Had our own controls for thermostat. The bed was comfy and bathroom spacious. I love the modern look in this historical building(1693, but B&B open 1 year). The hallways of the hotel and music that jived reminded me of a Westin. Michele (owner) probably has never been to a Westin, but he's done a fabulous job. I wish we could have seen the other rooms! And ladies and gentleman, we really loved our dinner. It was not included in our reservation, but it was worth every penny. The chef prepared amazing dishes the first night, so we knew we would return the following night. Bottomline: If you are planning a trip to Venice, Italy, we highly recommend Relais. It is not in the city center, but it is close enough (a 20 minute drive) that you can enjoy the tourism and hustle and bustle when you go into town, but you can escape the noise and relax in Ca'Sabbioni for your evenings. The breakfast is good it has a huge variety and the stuff was helpful. If you want to go to Venice, it's just five minutes walk to the train station and then 10 minutes train ride to Venice. A train to Venice is coming every 10 to 15 minutes... So if you want to find a cheap hotel, book it!

However, I have to share my encounter with what will now be referred to as THE ROOM. When I arrived at Al Piave, I was immediately told "You are aware that THE ROOM is non-refundable, yes?" Ominous.... Yes, I was aware; that was made clear when I booked it through Hotels.com. I was taken to THE ROOM via a tiny elevator that required the passenger to hold the button for the entire duration of the trip. As we rode, the concierge assured me that THE ROOM has a private bathroom. Very ominous.... What was made clear shortly after disembarking the elevator was that THE ROOM indeed had a private bathroom, however it was across the hall. THE ROOM itself consisted of a bed, a desk, a very small wardrobe, a very very small dresser and a night table with a lamp sans lampshade. All this was within a space approximately 6' by 7'. Conspicuously absent from THE ROOM was a mini-bar. This is not usually a problem, but in a city like venice where your options for purchasing beverages outside a bar or restaurant after a certain hour become extremely limited, it makes everything a little bit more difficult. Now it's important to understand why THE ROOM was so frustrating and earned a 2/5 star rating for Al Piave. First and foremost, I was not aware that I would be staying in THE ROOM. I was given the impression that all the rooms in Al Piave have their own bathroom AND mini bar. Which is apparently true, except for THE ROOM. I paid 92 EU a night for THE ROOM. Obviously, Venice is an expensive city but I was more than willing to pay for excellent accommodations. If I wanted to stay in hostel-like conditions, I would have and would have certainly paid significantly less than 92 EU a night. I know, I looked. Some other points worth mentioning; it was unseasonable warm during my stay in March and I generally prefer to be cool than warm. That was not an option in THE ROOM. I was not provided a controller for the air conditioner nor a means to turn down the radiator, which seemed determined to broil me in the night. My only recourse was to open the windows, And, unseasonably warm weather plus unavoidably being immediately adjacent to multiple bodies of water at all time equals MOSQUITOS. A significant part of my blood volume is now sustaining the young insect population of Venice So, staying at the Al Piave may be an excellent experience for you, as it has for many other reviewers. However, be warned; you may inadvertantly be booked into THE ROOM. As a postscript, it was not I who dubbed THE ROOM THE ROOM. On my last night at Al Piave, I had been walking for hours and it was after 11:00PM. I had learned early in my trip that finding a beverage outside of a bar or restaurant after sun down was virtually impossible, and the majority of bars are closed at 11:00PM anyway. I asked the concierge if it was possible to have a bottle of water before I went to bed. The concierge addressed me as if I had recently suffered a head injury: "You have water. It is in your mini bar." I told him that I do not have a mini bar. Again, as one would engage the recently concussed, he insisted "The water is in the mini bar, the mini bar is in your room" Finally I broke the news to him; "I'm in the room with the indoor outhouse." Realization came across his face; "Ohh, you are in THE ROOM." He then grudgingly provided me a bottle of warm water.
