    Hot chocolate

This is such a cute little spot in St. Nicks market! They have a wonderful and delicious looking display that just lures you in to try a yummy treat. Unfortunately I was very full and only had the hot chocolate which was delicious! I loved the cozy little seating area and the pantry where they store their ingredients. Absolutely lovely little spot!

A hidden gem! I always walk by this place in St. Nick's Market. It's sandwiched between Eat a Pitta and a local yarn shop, and wow are the cakes easy on the eyes. I had a chai tea with a glittery pear and cardamom cake. It was so moist and creamy with just the right amount of spice! It is a bit of a wallet breaker, but I would definitely come back to try the other cakes.

Orange and earl grey cake. Moist and delicious with perfectly balanced flavors.

Hot chocolate is what this place does best I think, I had a regular hot choc with all the toppings, cream, flaked chocolate and marshmallows and it was very enjoyable, I also had a slice of polenta cake which was very nice. I'm giving it 3 stars just because it didn't feel particularly friendly or welcoming, the staff were all nice enough and no one did anything wrong but they were just not what I have come to expect from a good cafe.

From the outside it looks like your average little café, and has a glass front which lets light into the place and creates a relaxing atmosphere. The seats by the window are definitely the best - especially if you enjoy people watching whilst enjoying a coffee! The best thing about Café Meme is their hot chocolates - which I would definitely recommend! They make their hot chocolates using real melted chocolate, and they taste delicious. Try the white hot chocolate - it sounds unusual but is amazing! They serve a variety of light lunches such as paninis, soups, salads etc - so it's perfect if you just fancy popping out with a friend to grab a small bite to eat. One thing to note is that this café is fairly small, and doesn't have the capacity to seat many people - I have visited a few times before and it is often the case that you have to wait for a table. However, if you visit at slightly off peak times such as before lunch or in the afternoon then you are more likely to find a seat! Another bonus is their loyalty card scheme! If you visit often enough you can collect stamps which contribute towards a freebie at the café!

The lovely people that run this place not only sell delicious fresh food, they clearly live it. Many times have I walked past and been tempted to walk in just for a chat. The nutritional content of food, the local political and cultural climates - they know it all! They strive incredibly hard to keep their whole and ethical food local, organic certified and chemical free. They even have their own farm nearby which, especially in the summer months, keeps their shelves fully stocked. Off to one side they have an extensive collection of really very good for you teas and ointments, a wide vegan and gluten-free selection and a constant yet dynamic choice of quiche, pasties and cakes for sale at the till. The whole experience is sensitively thought out and as a customer, very enjoyable.

For this reason I always limit my spending to speciality foods that I can't get elsewhere. For more generic items I usually go to either Harvest or Scoopaway, with the latter being my preferred option. I've eaten in the small cafe once (essentially a few tables clustered together in a small area away from the serving area). Again expensive, and a little dark for my liking, the cafe never seems to see much custom. It does however contain a phenomenal amount of reading material and flyers... and is a really quiet place to take a break from the rat race and contemplate your navel for a while.

Far from it in fact. It's refreshingly brilliant! From the outside, Chai Shai is beautiful; dark and deep blue painted walls with a wooden sign really set it apart from its neighbors. They also have the nicest logo and typography I've seen in a long time. I really love their branding. The restaurant looks tiny from the curb, and it is, but it looks really welcoming. They have 3 wooden plant pots just under the window with some herbs and spices in them. Inside has two tables and a well stocked open glass fridge with all of their pakoras and samosas. The smell is so good as you enter I couldn't wait to tuck in! I was there for lunch and had the lunch box meal. It came with a really nice spiced rice, a chick pea curry, samosa and a pakora. The rice was perfect. It had just enough flavour without over powering the chick peak curry - which was also beautiful! I'd normally always go for a meat dish, but it wasn't an option. But I wasn't fussed while I was tucking in. It was spicy enough to take a break every now and again, but so tasty I couldn't stop eating. The samosa and pakoras were both fantastic and you can tell these guys have A LOT of practice in making them. I spoke to the owners for a while and their passion for Bristol and for giving something back to the community was inspiring. They were a lovely couple to chat to. They've only be open for 12 weeks and with their love for cooking amazing food and their love for Bristol, they're sure to do well. Definitely one of my favourite eating experiences in Bristol for a while. I can't wait to go back!

It was about a 20 minute walk from my mates house and incredible to think that you can get from St George to somewhere so lovely in a few minutes. Not that St George isn't lovely, but, um, you know what I mean! We got to the pub and had to call them to get someone to pick us up on the boat - which is the only way to get to them from the other side of the river. We sat outside and luckily for us (maybe not for some) there was some background music from a 40th party at the other side of the garden - which I loved, but some might not! The bar menu was pretty basic, but not short of your standard largers, beers, ciders and top shelf spirits. Food wise the menu was good. Nothing fancy but a decent selection of pub grub: burgers, wraps, steak, chips etc all nicely cooked. There were quite a few dogs in the garden which again I really liked. I don't have a dog but if I did then I'd definitely take it for a walk and 'spontaneously' stop here for the rest of the afternoon! I walked to the bar at one point and there was a mother duck with 4 little chicks running around the garden. I'm used to living in the city so I'm definitely not used to that; it was great! I hope summer never ends so I can go back to Beese's and sit in the garden every weekend!

Best of all, I like hopping on the Conham water ferry after my lunch, fare just 25 pence across the river and dogs go free! What's nice about the riverside cosiness of it is the history. The old Mrs Beese opened it in 1846, the captain of the ferry was Mr Beese. The decking area is chillax central, and they'll even erect a marquee for your wedding reception. Aww.
