I was not a fan. I had to ask the massage person 4 times to increase the pressure. It still was not that great. I also had another service that was average. It was the body buffing/scrub. Nothing was a wow factor. On top of that, it was quite creepy to me all of the little gods and statues everywhere. Felt more like some sort of temple worship place. Was quite over the top for me and I felt uncomfortable with all of the crystals and statues lining the halls and walls. read more

I took a Me Day to visit this spa. I have a Esthetician colleague that has visited here. Yes, we need pampering as well. I set up am appointment and paid in advance. Beautiful facility. I felt calm upon entry. I missed partaking in tea of some sort. Would be a nice touch. My Therapist was Erin. She did an excellent job. The spa does sound baths, reiki, and other meditation rituals. They also have a nice retail space that has crystals, sage, and the like. Prices are very reasonable. I will return! read more

I spent the day at Ahlara with my 92 year old mother for a at of bliss! What a treat. Erica was our massage therapist and she was phenomenal. She is new to the spa so we didn't know what to expect. She really knows bodies and knew exactly what each of us needed. We will definitely request her when we return. We also had body scrubs and enjoyed the dry float bed. It's like floating in air. Two weeks ago I called and scheduled an appointment for 12:30. I gave them my home phone # and cell #. When I arrived at 12:10, I was whisked in and told that the appointment was for 12:00--that they had to change it and they texted me. I told them that I'd never received a text and they told me the number they texted--a phone number that I haven't had in 5 years. Apparently they didn't update my info when I made my appointment. They called my home line yesterday to confirm the appointment, but spoke with my husband and said nothing about changing the appointment time. That should have been explicitly stated. I tried to ask questions, but the front desk ladies were like, "Let's go, Let's go. We need to get started!" About 3 minutes into the massage, I told the massuse that I was sorry, but I wasn't in the right frame of mind for a massage. I was very upset that they hadn't made contact with me. When a business makes a change to an appointment, they need to make two-way contact with customer. A text that isn't responded to isn't confirmation. Calling someone's husband to confirm an appointment and not mentioning that the time has been adjusted isn't acceptable. I tipped the massuse because it wasn't her fault and I understand that this is her income, and spoke to the manager, saying that this shouldn't be standard business practice. She said that they did make contact with me and, "It seems there has been a breakdown in the communication." That's not even true. THEY NEVER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE TIME HAD BEEN CHANGED. They sent a text to cyberspace and said nothing to my husband about it. The manager could have at least said, "I'm sorry. We regret this happened." She was very unprofessional and nonchalant. She could have cared less. She did nothing to try to make it right. Ahlara's handling of this situation was rushing me into a spa experience and telling me that it'd only be cut short by 5 minutes. This was on our anniversary weekend. What a bummer. read more

Ahlara is my favorite place to get a massage in Lake Norman. A few nice touches include: a zen room for relaxing before and after a massage, hot tea, sauna (free with the purchase of a massage), and a shower, locker room, robes, and flip flops so you don't have to undress in the massage room. Their massages are 60 minutes (not 50 minutes, like so many other places), and longer options are also available. I have had several massages there and have never been displeased. My favorite massage -- and a massage that is unique to Ahlara -- is the Abhyanga. This massage has two therapists using synchronized motions to provide you with an extremely relaxing massage. It is totally worth the $140 charge! Erin is my absolute favorite massage therapist, and she is one of the therapists who does the Abhyanga. I like my massages slow and with a light touch, and she never fails to provide me with exactly what I ask for. Ahlara is a great place to go, and I highly recommend them! read more

I had been a regular customer for over 4 year - regular as in having at least one service a month (facial), with the occasional extra treatment, such as a pedicure or massage. I have also brought in new clients. Last Saturday they had a scheduling conflict with the sauna, and three (!!) of their employees bullied me out of the sauna 10 minutes before my time was up! They treated me like I had done something wrong. Had they told me there was a problem, I would have been happy to forego my sauna visit and accepted a rain check. She is 36 with extremely sensitive skin and some sun damage. She was scared to have a facial because everything breaks her out. I've been to spas and paid much more, but we both awoke the next day to incredibly clear, improved skin. The lead esthetician Maureen is the most knowledgeable and intuitive I have ever experienced. The spa has organic, nutritive facial products that smell like fresh fruits and herbs...and they work! The atmosphere is very zen like - Eastern Medicine and healing. Very upscale. Robes and linens are clean and luxurious. There is a zen den to relax and await your next treatment while you sip hot tea or water with fresh citrus. A locker area to store your things and a shower area if you want to freshen up after your treatments. Shop around in the boutique for uncommon and unique goods while you wait. The whole place smells amazing! The massage therapists are truly superb. We had the shanti package with hot moist towels. Incredibly affordable compared to Ballantyne, Ritz Carlton, or Umstead and worth every penny, especially if you enjoy the healing modalities of Eastern medicine. I purchased several products from the Image, Eminence, and Farm House Fresh lines. I will be going back with my daughter and again with my friends as soon as possible.
