I think the care…read moregivers need to be taught a few things about cleaning, elder respect and psychology of patients with dementia and how to coax them to do things they need to do, like bathing, changing their clothes regularly and other personal hygiene stuff. Also the caretakers need to clean the areas most used by the patient more than once a week, especially bathrooms. I was told when i hired them that i didn't need a cleaning company or a pet care person any more , so I let them go . The girl also had a car for transportation which is no longer the case and its a big issue for an elder to be stuck with no freedom especially since we took away his car and license for safety concerns. I was also told that she would water plants . This all seemed a reasonable expectation for $10000 a month plus $70 dollars each week for food. Its expensive as hell. Now the story changes as the employer and employees change ,and it becomes an effort to get the proper care. Experience is lacking and training is really needed, so is consistency. I wont say they are terrible, because there are really horrible companies out there that are just taking advantage of people and throwing anyone in there, but when i hire someone to care for my parent, i don't expect my parent for whom I have POA to be calling the shots and telling the person what to do and what not to do especially when they are not the one who signed the contract. I just want my parent cared for and protected and living in a clean safe environment which requires an individual to walk around the home and make sure its safe and clean and healthy . I expect fresh air to be let in and being a fall risk, for the parent not to be left alone outdoors. It concerns me that the health of the care takers also seems to get worse and worse and weight gain is obvious and to see them sitting more often than my elder parent is an issue especially when the elder parent needs to be motivated to move and stay limber when over 90. This is not a job for everyone, mentally it takes a toll so the health stuff is understandable, but I'm paying a fortune for this service! One other note: I had spoken with the company about finding a more appropriate match for my parent and they didn't even discuss it with my parent which caused my parent to freak out and verbally go off on me when told with no notice they were removing the help he so loved from his home and replacing them, even though my parent complained about them constantly. My parent told them that day to get lost, fire her and ill hire her myself. Come to think of it my parent complains about me every day too. Maybe I should be fired. Oh wait I cant be I'm stuck with this responsibility whether i want it or not. Its not easy!

M says she has it listed that I quit my job on Friday, but I never did. Calling Friday to unfortunately have to request to cancel a shift due to emergency unforeseen circumstances with my childcare, I would have expected to have a little more understanding during a global pandemic with school being out- but I didn't get that. I did inquire about any options I would have available regarding unemployment goes, but never physically or verbally quit. Ended up speaking to K in HR, and told him what had happened and that they said I quit when I didn't. He was of no help. He said it stands where it stands right now and that's it. An inquiry about unemployment options and having to cancel one case wasn't a full on voluntary invitation to terminate me and then say that I quit my job. They did what they did because they were upset that I had to cancel last minute. That was a very unprofessional move on their end , not to mention a direct reflection of how their company works . Also, they operate poorly. Every person I have cared for complains about the lack of relationships they have with caregivers because there are so many in and out. The say they give you bonuses and gas money for picking up cases last minute but I have yet to see any on my paystubs and I had been working there for about 6 months. I would not recommend visiting angels for care, nor would I recommend visiting angels for employment. The pay is low, survivable at the most, especially the nearly triple the rate they charge an hour, compared to what we are actually paid. They are greedy. You don't get to build solid caregiver/client relationships because you're always being jumped around. The staff has a few rude ones working there and I expected more especially during a pandemic. Stay away. They did something very wrong and unprofessional. Please look around, read reviews and hire private care. This place is terrible. Again, go elsewhere. Ps. Thank you for admitting you terminated me. They can't administer his medications he needs 5 times a day. After the Key took over from Companions and home makers their prices kept increasing. They don't pay their caregivers enough yet they keep increasing the prices. They told me it was due to wage increases in CT. That increase is less than one dollar per hour. yet rates per hour increased almost five dollars. For day care their caregivers are excellent but they need to pay them better.

No matter which agency you go with, they are all the same as far as the aide who comes into your home. I feel bad for those who don't have children to look in and watch out for them while an aide is in the home. It is better than a nursing home environment in some respects, however, you need to be proactive and not expect the agency will do it all. Please lock up all valuables in a safe, lock box, or hidden somewhere. When we had some wonderful aides at home under this agency, I felt confident that my family was cared for. The patient is left using hand signals and grunts which will get everyone by but for long term it's discouraging. You've got no one to converse with. There is no ability of the aide to provide companionship. The last one I had I bought her a book on Amazon. English for Ukrainians. I was willing to spend an hour a day with her but she refused to learn English. She was going back to Ukraine, so why bother. She refused to change her hours because her husbands dinner came first. As for the office staff. None have experience as aides so they tend to be too patriotic and self righteous about their employees. The patient isn't always right with Nova Home Care. Over all if you get an English speaking aide you've attained a lot. Except for the one I currently have who has a mental disorder. The psychiatrist packs her full of drugs so she doesn't become violent. She's a black American. Her English is fine but she's asleep half the time. There you have it.

I need aids for my mother for dementia mostly for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday, and some hours on Friday, however they hire a specific population of women who cannot work the weekends because they go to church on Sundays, which is fine however why not just let your customers know that your agency and aids cannot help and are not open on Sundays. This would have saved me so much stress. Forget about finding someone for Saturday. During the 6 months less than 50% of the time they were able to find an aid to work the 13 hours I needed on those days. They kept sending an aid who would sleep and check her phone all day. She didn't interact with my mom, she only did the basics; med reminder, fed, showered. Then she gave my mother my father's medications which could have been fatal. My mother had an upset stomach for days and wouldn't eat and I couldn't give her her normal medications until her system calmed down. Which caused more stress for her and me. Then they sent another aid who didn't remind my mother to take her meds so my mom's hallucinations were terrible that whole day.. Thank goodness she isn't taking something that she needs to stay alive. The aid listened to my mom when she said she wasn't hungry so she didn't even offer food for lunch. (Keep in mind my mother says she's not hungry each time you ask so you need to put the food in front of her and offer it.) My mom only had a fruit cup and egg for breakfast and then nothing until 5pm. The aid was on her phone all day. She was extremely rude to me and my mother. The aid kept going outside to vape and sit on the patio and spit into the yard. It was disgusting. Then when I asked if she gave my mom her meds she ignored me and called the agency and said she was leaving and she was screaming on the phone. When I sent the videos to the owner, the owner emailed me and said that the aid did nothing wrong but she doesn't condone the behavior. As far as I know both of the aids are still working. Then they sent an aid who was fantastic but then just decided not to show up and not let anyone know. My opinion is that she was unhappy with the agency. Also my son's Nintendo switch went missing the week that he broke his leg and left it on the coffee table. I do not have video to prove who stole it but it went missing on the day that the agency sent their aid. The owner has insurance for these kinds of things but will not cover the cost. I'm beyond frustrated and will keep spreading how terrible these aids and this agency is. The only aid who came that I loved was Cora Lee. I'm sad to see her go but I cannot in good conscience work with people like this to trust to care for my mom.Btw... Your online platform explains that your aids can organize pills in pill boxes, give cues and reminders to take meds. If they aren't supposed to do any of that then you should not have them TOUCHING these medicines at all even in the boxes. You should not advertise that they even give cues or reminders. But your aid gave the wrong pill box to my mother and my mother can't differentiate because she has dementia. No need to speak with us again regarding this.
