I rarely heard from my attorney and was instead passed off almost exclusively to paralegals, who were consistently condescending, dismissive, and often unable or unwilling to answer basic questions about my case. My divorce was straightforward: we were married for less than two years, had no children, no real estate, and no significant assets. Yet after months, virtually nothing had been accomplished beyond serving my spouse. The final straw came when my ex-spouse was sent a draft of the divorce agreement before I had even seen it or authorized it to be sent. Learning that a settlement draft had been sent to the opposing party without my knowledge or permission completely destroyed my confidence in the firm's handling of my case. After I terminated my representation, the delays continued. My new attorney had to request my file multiple times before it was finally released, unnecessarily delaying my case even further. I have now spent over a week repeatedly calling for the return of my remaining retainer and an itemized billing statement, only to be met with excuses, promises of "tomorrow," and unanswered calls. Rather than taking responsibility for the firm's repeated delays and poor communication, I was made to feel as though my frustration was somehow the problem. It wasn't. My frustration was the direct result of how this firm handled my case from beginning to end. If I wanted a man to gaslight me- I would've stayed married. He and his son showed up one day to look around, and I distinctly remember his son saying "that's fine" when I showed him the big hole in the kitchen floor! At one point during the winter months, the super smelled gas and called PSEG. Turned out the furnace and exhaust was filthy and clogs and PSEG cut the gas to the building until it was fixed. We had no heat for days and only after another tenant called the state after 3 days with no heat did he drop off space heaters for us to use and get someone in to clean the furnace. I moved out after 1 year. This is my personal experience and may not be what other tenants experienced.
