It's located in the Gendmarket (beautiful place), the staff were nice and very attentive. The food came in a perfect pace to the table. We had the cold potato leek soup as starter, delicious! As main courses: the steak from fillet of beef and the veal meat balls. Both were very good, very tasty and perfect quantity. We had two glasses of rose and coffee after. It is a bit overpriced. The best place for German food I've tried during my 6 days of stay in Berlin. It has great reviews and it's for a good reason. I tried soup that had some savory pancakes and bone marrow, the flavors were mellow and beautiful, not too strong nor overwhelming. I very much enjoyed it and crave it again already. I also tried the veal schnitzel, at this point I was full but couldn't resist eating more, very tasty and well made and tender. Definitely recommend this place for schnitzel. Btw, it a huge slice, so very very fulfilling. My friend tried their appetizer "bratwurst", he said it was mediocre, he didn't really care for them, so not recommended. Overall, good service, good atmosphere, and very good food aside from bratwurst, which my friend tried the best prior to this visit. read more

When looking for an authentic German meal in Berlin, we had a bit of difficulty. One, because yelp isn't very big in Berlin and two, because reviews of places were always mixed. However, we did find Aigner on yelp and made a reservation after checking out the menu. The location is pretty central, being in the most beautiful square of Berlin: Gendarmenmarkt. We went to Berlin during the Christmas season, so we had a great view out the window of the Christmas market happening right outside. The staff was very lovely and helpful to American tourists who unfortunately only speak English. For drinks, I had the dry Riesling, which was crisp. My sister got the Apple cider cocktail with the champagne. They served bread with goose fat before the entrees arrived, and we quickly ate that treat. My sister got the Aigner Wiener schnitzel, which was classically yummy. I got the special, which was a roasted duck, with potato dumpling, sautéed greens, beets and and a roasted apple. It was absolutely delicious and I would recommend getting this, or even the roasted goose version of the dish. It felt very German-Christmasy! read more

We found this place, again, via Yelp, while walking around town. It seemed to be in a more posh part of the city so we thought it'd be nice for the last night in Berlin. We sat outside looking accross the French Cathedral. The staff was very courteous & nice, though not as "warm" as I am used to, I think it's probably just a cultural thing? The place is below a hotel I believe, and the crowd was a bit older as well. I immediately liked this place for their mention on the menu concerning doggy bags as they are joining in the movement of no waste. The rest of Europe needs to participate a lot more, I think, get over the "embarassment" of asking for the rest of your food to-go. We started off with a beer and a merlot from their own vineyard which was quite good. We then took: -seasonal salad with greens, water melon, buffalo mozzarella & almonds -Nuremberg sausages with Riesling sauerkraut & mashed potatoes -a beef consomme with bone-marrow dumpling, made with boiled prime beef & veggies -medium rare steak with peppercorn & coriander sauce with potato wedges -veal meatballs with caper sauce, beets and mashed potatoes with chives Everything was delicious! This was the best veal schnitzel we have ever had! Nice atmosphere, close to everything with nice beers! I especially enjoyed the apple cider champagne cocktail! The cucumber & potato salad (served room temperature) was yummy! We had the Aigner schnitzel and the veal schnitzel, with the latter being the clear winner, with its naturally tender meat. Wow! By far my favorite place over our 5 days in Berlin. Monday night- no need for reservation near 1745... After that restaurant packed. Decor modern Dress ranged from fancy to business casual Servers work hard! They have their own vineyard, near the Black Forest making reds, whites, bubbly. Great balance in all of the varieties- we tried them all. Food- from the bread service to the dessert- perfect. Hand sliced iberica ham, bone marrow dumplings which I want to try both. We enjoyed the perfectly crusted, light and lemony weiner schnitzel, so tender and light. No grease to be had. Also enjoyed the 2 part beef soup then meat. The soup has fresh root vegetables and thin sliced potato pancakes. Stock was Devine and rich. The meat was tender and flavorful- boiled beef? Who would have guessed. Served with bone marrow, creamed spinach, crem frache and crispy potatoes. Dessert- lava cake and cream brûlée paired with their dessert wine. Make sure you plan this for Berlin. I should've updated this sooner. After being turned away, we had our concierge call them back and straighten things out, forcing us a table as we were owed. We really should have just found another place. Overall the place was quite noisy and hot, hard to have a peaceful dinner. The service was PAINSTAKINGLY Slow, now I know fully that Euro lifestyle makes an event out of dinner. But, start to finish 3.5 hours for a simple dinner was way too long. By the time we left, with food timing, we were ready to eat again. We ordered specialties off the menu, and honestly were just mediocre at best. IT was also fairly expensive for the quality. I think this is more of a place to go with a group, not for the best dinner in a small setting. read more

My wife isn't the biggest fan of German cuisine but I love it so we looked for a place that is German but elevated to the next level. Restaurant Aigner did not disappoint. We came here for dinner and had a Beef Tartar to start, a Boiled Beef Tongue from a brass kettle served with bone marrow dumplings, and a Winer Schnitzel. The bread was served with a side of goose fat instead of traditional butter. It goes well with almost anything and is packed with flavor. Let me just say, both my wife and I need more of that in our lives. The Beef Tartar itself was not seasoned, if at all. However, when mixed with the chives, mustard, onions, and pickles it was amazing and full of flavor. The Wiener Schnitzel was the best I've ever had. The seasoning was spot on, the veal was so tender, and the bread crumbs were fried to perfection. Even the side potato salad was better than most places. The star of the night was definitely the Boiled Beef Tongue made in a brass kettle. I would say it rivals filet mignon in terms of tenderness. The soup and the bone marrow dumplings were great too but man, I did not know beef tongue could be so delicious! If you are in Berlin, definitely come here. read more

AIGNER Franzosische Strasse 25. Berlin We found this" up scale" restaurant while reading menus and peering in windows for ambiance. Made a reservation and returned wearing jacket and tie and was not out of place. Mostly non tourist clientele but they did give us an English menu. English speakers of varying abilities helped us. Ambiance; soft lighting, dark woods, cloth table cloths and napkins set with silverware rather than a jar with a napkin, knife and fork like everywhere else for the last two weeks. I had Schnitzel, I know, unimaginative but..., crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth wonderful on the inside. Wife had red meat cooked as requested. Spatzle and vegetable accompanied both. Bread was quite good. Wine list had some French wines but we tossed the dice and chose a German and were happy. Little difficulty getting a Jack Daniels with club soda and a Scotch and water but no more than the rest of Europe. Likewise, getting an "American " coffee seems to escape many Europeans but we made ourselves understood and were happy. As seems the custom in Europe, it was hard to get the bill since they let you sit and enjoy not rushing you to turn the table. We were quite happy after two weeks of beer & bratwurst sidewalk emporiums. Mind you, that's not a complaint. I love beer and sausage! read more

I went to Aigner with my 3-year old son and my neighbors, who have a 3-year-old daughter. We were there for an early lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant inside was completely empty and the outdoor seating was not fully occupied. When we asked about a table at the maitre'd stand, she looked completely nervous at the prospect of 2 kids sitting at the restaurant. I completely get that not every place is kid-friendly, but we were made to feel like we were bringing a troop of elephants to dine at this upscale restaurant, which wasn't exactly packed to the gills with patrons. Both kids had schnitzel and pommes, and our waitress ( who was a Trainee) was super friendly with the children and accommodating. Finding the right compromise between modernity and traditional food is a challenge for many cook. In this place, the chief took an approach to be modern and but respect the tradition (no deconstruction of the dish etc). The result is a classy, enjoyable, traditional German food. We tried Aigner a few times during our stay in Berlin. Our first time we tried the Wiener Schnitzel as it was suggested by our server. The schnitzel lacked a bit of flavor in our opinion however what brought us back was a number of soups that Aigner made. According to our host there, the chef visits the farms where Aigner gets its meats and produce. The soups that they created made us come back for two more visits. The soups were served in two parts. First off the broth along with some vegetables. Then the meat used to make the broth and more vegetables along with side dishes on a separate plate. Notable side dish was the creamed spinach. The quality of the beef in the broth is top notch. Also the coating on the Wiener Schnitzel tasted much better when served on the chicken served "Vienna Style". We ate outside versus inside as the weather was still nice enough to do so. Still, the service was adequate and friendly. The staff knows enough English to make your meal a pleasant experience. read more

Beautiful woods and art in a venue that specializes in Austrian styled foods, we ordered wienerschnitzel, spritzer, beef tongue and some beef tartare and frittes. The food was delightful and the wienerschnitzel's tenderness and the delicacy of the breading was just right. The beef tongue was also prepared to perfection. Loved this place. We went twice. Once for coffee and the next nite for dinner. There was a concert at the Koncerthaus right in front. This place is located in front of the Gendarmenmarkt plats and has outdoor sitting as well as indoor. The restaurant is very big, and of course, like in all of Europe, tablecloths at all tables (even outside) and glassware. The food was level 3 and Frisker Fritz is diagonal from this restaurant. This is a great area of the city. The food took forever, though. The tables around us were being served faster. read more

A friend took me here for lunch one day over a week ago. He told me the food is great, so I ordered the Käsespätzle. He got the Maultaschen as a starter and let me try it. They really were both incredible. My main dish was more than enough as well. We then had to get the Apfelstrudel as well. It was well worth it and luckily the dessert portion was much smaller than the main plates. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. One thing that bothered me is that I ordered a glass of tap water to take some medication with, and she asked if I wanted still or sparkling water. The décor was really quite nice as well. We were staying at a nearby hotel and were looking for more of a fine dining restaurant and stumbled upon this place. It is located on the ground level of the Sofitel hotel and is a combo of German and Austrian cuisine. Overall, the ambiance is more of an old-school restaurant but still has linens to make this feel more fine-dining. The servers were friendly and helpful, however a bit slow when it came to actual service. We were not in a rush so we didn't mind, but it was something that I noticed. Getting to food, we started with some Smoked Tyrolean ham (about 9/10 slices) which was very good and paired with some pickles and cheese. A member in the party also tried the Clear beef consommé soup that was ok. For mains, we did an assortment of organic farm chicken that was cooked nicely and baked in breadcrumbs, the Aigner-Schnitzel that was served with a potato cucumber salad that was very good, the lamb that was cooked medium and perfect and some steak tartare (we asked for it come with our entrees but it came as an appetizer and sat on the table till we asked them to bring it back and serve it with all the entrees). Overall, the mains were very good and I would highly recommend the lamb and schnitzel. For desserts, I would highly recommend the Vienna caramelized sliced pancake as it was accompanied with apples and vanilla ice cream - so good, but the other items we ordered were just ok. We finished up meal with some teas, espressos and cafes which were all good. After tax and a magnum bottle of wine, it came out to about 50 euro/person which I thought was very good for what we ordered. Buon appetito. read more

My second time in Aigner and was very happy with the food and service. Food is hearty and rustic which is perfect for this time of year. Great selection of wines as you would expect also. Beware of the sink in the toilets. The water pressure was high and the design of the sink itself led to splash back all over the place. Try the German Grappa, good winter warmer ! read more

I had their signature duck entree for dinner. My friend had the meat combo beef stew. Beef tongue was very tender and good. I didn't expect beef tongue to be so tasty but that was the favorite party of the dish. The bone marrow that came with the entree was good as well- nothing spectacular out of the norm but it did meet my expectations. I read raving reviews about the bone marrow dumplings but they looked like fish balls from Chinatown and definitely was not tasty as it sounded. I'd give it 2/5 scale. My duck was accompanied with cabbage sauce that I wasn't too impressed with. I was slightly disappointed with my duck dish but I am glad I was able to try their beef stew to make up for it. The decor of the restaurant was elegant and classy. Our server was attentive and readily available. The venue was pretty large in size. We were the first to dine meeting our 5:30pm reservations but the tables were quickly filled up by the time we were leaving. read more

A wonderful Viennese style brasserie in Berlin, right in the centre of town. The atmosphere feels different, as the place is replicating the style and decor of the Aigner restaurant in Vienna, an institution there apparently. Wood panels, a long bar, active waiters and waitresses, the place feels buzzy and warm. The service was very attentive and friendly, the menu quite diverse and we opted mainly for specialities, in particular the breaded chicken and the veal cutlet as well. All was very good, including the dessert (apple strudel of course). This is perfect for a friendly business dinner (that was my case) or for a dinner with friends, we even spotted the odd couple on a romantic evening. Found through Yelp, this is a delicious austrian-german restaurant that is located in the heart of berlin. The service is fantastic - personalised suggestions for wine and food, and the ambience of the place was outstanding. It is a beautifully decorated and maintained space with happy staff but my wife and i still had intimacy to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The selection of wines is fantastic - i had a dry riesling - and the pea soup, the chicken, the falafel and the viennese appricot were all deliciously cooked. We payed under 80€ which is cheap for the quality. A must repeat when back in Berlin. read more

Very disorganized service and arrogant staff. It took over 90 minutes to get our main courses after we finished our first courses. The food was just OK. It certainly did not compensate for the atrocious service. Although we were with a large group, the restaurant knew this months in advance and there was no excuse for the way we were treated. I found the menu difficult to navigate, with no appetizing starters and entree choices that were off the mark. My dining companions agreed with me.
