I really enjoyed our visit to Alt-Berliner Wirtshaus. Our waiter was the best and made the evening absolutely perfect. We got lucky to get a table right away as it gets super busy, even on a weekday night. The restaurant has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. They have a nice drinks menu with lots of creative cocktails as well as the staples. The food menu has all the traditional German items and seems like you can t go wrong with any of them. One of our favorite spots to hang out at and watch the world walk by when in Berlin recently to run the Berlin Marathon. Love how the front sidewalk seating is all facing the street, ashtray on each table, and menu of German favs and vegan options too. Talented street musicians performing every now and then. Very cool European vibe. The inside is huge with plenty of seating but being outside is the way to go. Nothing like sitting here on a sunny afternoon enjoying a tasty German beer, celebrating a successful marathon finish, and people watching. read more

We had the mixed plate but honestly I would just get the schnitzel. Max had the soup and thought it very hearty and tasty. (No water but over priced sparkling - we think this is so cheap of restaurants - especially when you have customers buying full dinners and not just coming to drink- we notice this is what 70% of Germans /N. Europeans do- go out and just sit at a table and drink. Americans go to (only) bars for that- we eat at restaurants). Anyway. The service was good. (She is a bit short/ concise - think that is German women in general). Nice but short and definitely not chatty- she did speak English, so it made it a lot easier. Excellent stop to salvage a trip to Alt Berliner Wirtshaus Henne, traditional birthday Haus that was closed for Whit Monday ;( Sausage Parade 16,90€ was delicious All 3 sausages were delicious, our fave was the grilled and snappy smoked long Schinkenknacker, very smoky and grilled Rostbratwurst that was milk in flavor. Berliner Dampfwurst steamed was herbaceous and the softest casing. Mash came with a dark gravy not pic that was sorta sweeter and slight mace flavor. Sauerkraut was medium vinegary but firm and delish Waitress Ilka dressed in baggy liederhosen was very pleasant while rushing about and brought out a spicy mustard mentioning it's a must with sausage haha. We cleaned the plates, the biers were a treat to try something other than Berliner Pilsener which is pleasant easy drinking light lager with good body. Schultheiss Pilsener - Spicy pale lager, light hop that bites a bit on the end, very drinkable and Markischer Landmann Schwatzbier a dark malty smooth bier, not sweet like US dark malts. For our last day it made for a very memorable German dining experience and would definitely recommend for a sit down restaurant. Guess I need to return for a true Bierhaus. read more

Happened upon this restaurant for lunch. Lovely selections of various German dishes, with modern additions. We had potato soup and a green salad and curry wurst with french fries. Quite delicious. This place was so good, we came here twice! Visited after we toured the buildings around central Berlin. The waitress spoke English and was fun and witty, a true joy to have around. Be prepared for LARGE portions. The food is very LARGE and in CHARGE. I ordered a pig knuckle here and I had leftovers for two more meals! My friend ordered the currywurst and he fell in love, finished his entire plate! I adored their sauerkraut. We also had our first Mezzo drink here! A large refreshing glass of it! The second time we ate here, we decided to dine indoors. The place itself is large, but feels cozy and intimate. There are picture frames and Knick knacks all over the walls. It can be a little difficult navigating around, but it's all quite fun. I had a big meat plate this time and it was gorgeous. I was very full, but also very satisfied! We also ordered and apple pastry dessert. It was not too sweet and paired well with the ice cream and fruit! A wonderful end to one of our last meals in Berlin! Food was perfectly German! We Had just arrived and checked in , looking for an easy authentic dinner . This location was literally in our base floor . Party of four got to sit outside , nice servers , Chardonnay was bad but Merlot was perfect for our Schnitzel and Curry Wurst . Salads ordered along with French fries . Yes plz! The Yelp rating was lower than we'd normally go for but we decided to give it a chance. That was a good choice! Some people nitpick, what can I say? We ate outside and all of food was great. We selected to eat lunch here due to being in a time crunch and this being central to the tourist attractions that we were going to see for the day. There is indoor & outdoor seating. The service was timely and most servers spoke English. The bathrooms and restaurant were clean; the decor is traditional German. Prices were fair; card & euros accepted, make sure to add tip before your credit/debit card is run. The food was ok & a good portion for the price. We had schnitzel, a salad, and beers. Had a dinner of roast beef and potatoes here, and it was very tasty! The service was pretty friendly. And, of course, there's a good selection of beer. After the meal, they unexpectedly delivered us a dessert, to our marked confusion. They then realized they'd made an error and whisked it away out from under the nose of our toddler before she could dig in, without even a "sorry for the mixup"! Would've been very annoying if the kid had been upset by that. But the kid was (somewhat unexpectedly) unperturbed by the sudden departure of dessert, satisfied to eat another slice of the house potato bread. (I joke that my kid is a "breaditarian", and this certainly didn't disappoint.) The wayward strudel looked delicious, but the dinner potions were large enough that we didn't feel inspired to put in our own dessert order. The place was a bit pricey, though that was mostly expected. But ordering "two glasses of water" resulted in two giant glasses for €4.50 each with no mention of the price. No one was at the door. From the moment I got in, there was a flow of people coming in. Menu is in english, russian, and spanish. I ordered number 120 on the menu, which is crispy pork knuckle with Bavarian cabbage and potatoes for €17.50. The plate looked big. If you are a light eater, it might be too much. The pork knuckle is a lot! The potatoes were chewy and sort of hard. The cabbage wasnt bad. The pork was tender and tasty. Was I wowed? Not really. read more

I'm not exaggerating when I say this was my husbands favorite restaurant during our time in Berlin. And we went to Vau; which is suppose to be the number one, Michelin rated restaurant in Berlin. It's a tiny restaurant with plenty of seating inside and outside. I was a bit skeptical which I realized all the tables around us spoke English. That is, until I saw our neighbors' plate with a huge lamb leg hanging off it. Hubs got the blood sausage meal and it was pretty heavy, huge, and fantastically seasoned. TWSS? I went for the bratwurst dish and was sad which my sausages didn't even compare to my husband's dish! Either way we ate everything. Even the sauerkraut was consumed by my picky husband. I had a mixed meat Berlin plate which was packed with delicious and varied beef and pork. My companions had schnitzel and Schweinhaxen. All delicious! Diners seem to be mostly locals. Decor includes lovely quirky ornaments, plates, swords, knives and Germanic looking things on the walls. A huge meal, a beer and a bottle of wine came to €23 each. We all want to go back.
