Good training, relaxed atmosphere. It's moved to 726 E. Blacklidge, across from Govinda's, near 1st and Glenn.

I was let go from this gym after speaking up about misconduct. That alone should tell you…read moreeverything. The training is solid, that's the only reason this is one star. But the culture is toxic in ways that took me a while to fully see. Staff who are married or in relationships openly engage in inappropriate behavior with members. That's the baseline here. What's not tolerated is being a serious, independent athlete with your own voice. I had ideas for the gym regarding gear, content, improvements, that were taken and pitched by others as their own. No credit, no acknowledgment. Your place here is determined by how compliant you are, not how hard you work or how talented you are. Speak up, and you're out. Most importantly: I would not send any young girl here. I raised concerns about staff behavior toward young female members and was removed for it. If a gym's response to someone speaking up about safety is to silence them, that is not a safe environment. I came here to train and compete. I left because I refused to stay silent. If you're a serious athlete, especially a young woman, you deserve better than this.

Undisputed is the best gym I have ever taken classes at. And I have been taking muay thai, boxing,…read morekickboxing and to a lesser extent jiu jitsu off and on for over a decade. John Bassford and Chris Garner are incredible at the sport itself but also possess a seemingly endless supply of energy, patience, and eye for detail. They will not coddle you, but they also will not make you feel stupid as you learn. And learning is what they want you to do. It is hands on, you will work with others in the class respectfully, they insure that. There is a limit anyone can learn simply practicing alone or with someone who will not challenge them. This is not something you need to take into consideration at Undisputed. If you want to improve you will have to suffer the pain education brings with it. Undisputed understands this. They will not antagonize this inevitability. Any rivalry that springs into being from sparring is kept amicable. For those with lousy vocabularies this means respectful, friendly, maybe even fun. All skill levels are embraced and all are welcome. It is a rare community, a real community, a place where you become part of something greater and are free to roam and lift weights or tap into the dynamic teachers who are there. Finally, Cassie worked with me on payment plans and proved that not all gyms are rigidly fixed on taking your money. She was accomodating and fair. I do not know any other gyms that can be said about.

Jamie provides the acupuncture and Jarrod provides the Tunia (Chinese hands on massage therapy). The treatments are affordable (only $30 each) and effective, and last about an hour total (for both the acupuncture and the tunia). I've been coming here twice a month for the past month, and I am feeling much healthier and happier since starting these treatments. Acupuncture is extremely helpful in treating a variety of health issues. If you suffer from any kind of chronic pain, headaches, high blood pressure, allergies, or digestive problems, you could most likely benefit from regular treatments. Descending Dragon also offers martial arts classes, and Jarrod is a highly knowledgeable expert instructor, as well as being committed to traditional Chinese medicine. If you don't mind a communal setting for your treatments, try it, and you'll soon experience the multitude of benefits that acupuncture and Tunia offer. I have not tried the martial arts classes, but I am confident that they are also highly worthwhile. The martial arts classes offered include Open Training, Xingyi Quan, Bagua Zhang, and Taiji Quan. There are reduced rates available for multiple classes.

My family and I have attended Capoeira Mandinga Tucson (CMT) for over a year now. When my two sons…read morestarted, they were ages four and five, just a couple of months shy of five and six. Mestra (Master, or teacher) Luar (also known as Anne, the owner!) was extremely quick to engage both boys and help them achieve a focus I had never seen before! Kids that age don't really stay on task too well, but for Capoeira, they have done fantastically! Now, just over a year later and each boy has earned his first belt! They play capoeira all the time and can't wait to go to classes! We have also upgraded to a family membership! My wife loves it and has never been so into a fitness regimen! She has lost weight and is toning up impressively! And then there's me. I'm in my mid-40's and have a bad hip, but even I have been able to take a few classes! My hip is still bad, but my cardio is better, my flexibility is beginning to improve and most importantly, I have had no further injuries. Mestra Luar teaches a lot more than just capoeira moves. She teaches the history of the art, the importance of respect and cooperation, and she teaches awesome music as well! Luar has authentic Brazilian instruments she uses to teach songs and rhythms used all over the world in capoeira. Portuguese is the language of capoeira, so all the songs are taught in Portuguese. It's great fun learning a new language while having a great time! Finally, I want to address the atmosphere. CMT is a family place! All the kids, and all the parents get along, and we enjoy the monthly Rota (pronounced Ho-Da) which is a sort of mini-jamboree where EVERYONE at the academy who is in classes comes and plays Capoeira together! Young vs. old, big vs. little, skilled vs me, makes no difference! Everyone plays together and we all become closer every time! We sing capoeira songs, and the students even get to learn some of the instruments! I love CMT! This place is great for my family and for me. Salve Mandinga!!!
