A Hardest Decision Made with Love: My Adoption Journey with AIM In 1998, I made one of the hardest and most emotional decisions of my entire life--placing my son up for adoption. At the time, I was young, overwhelmed, and facing a situation that felt far bigger than I could handle on my own. The choice did not come easily. It came with countless nights of tears, questions, and soul-searching. But despite the deep sadness and heartache, I knew that the decision had to be made out of love--for the life and future of the child I brought into the world. I didn't walk this journey alone. From the very beginning, the team at AIM (Adoptions in Motion) was there to support me. They offered more than just professional guidance; they gave me compassion, empathy, and a sense of security that I never expected. The women and staff at AIM never judged me for my decision or my circumstances. Instead, they embraced me with kindness and understanding, making me feel like I mattered--and that my emotions were valid. One of the most powerful aspects of working with AIM was how they focused not just on the adoptive family or the baby, but on me as the birth mother. I was never treated like someone who was simply giving something away. They made sure I knew that what I was doing was brave, selfless, and centered in love. I remember sitting in their office, my heart heavy, and a staff member held my hand and told me, "You're not alone. We are with you through every step." And they truly were. Throughout the process, AIM ensured I was physically and emotionally cared for. They checked in on me regularly, helped me navigate medical appointments, and created a safe space for me to process my feelings. They explained every step thoroughly, allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed, and never pushed me to make a decision. Their goal was to empower me to make the best choice for myself and my child--with support, not pressure. Choosing adoption didn't mean I didn't love my son. It meant I loved him enough to want more for him than I could provide at that time in my life. AIM understood that, and they honored it. 32 years ago in June, 1992, I was a single Mom of a 4 year old and found out I was pregnant. I wasn't with the baby's Daddy. I was living on welfare and had no clue what I was going to do! Then my neighbor told me about AIM Adoptions and it changed my life forever! They aren't there "just to take your baby" and be done with you! Which is such a common misconception!They become your family! They took care of me until I had my baby because I was confined to bed and couldn't work! As I said, it was 32 years ago and I truly feel as if the employees are family even the ones that have since retired. Because they are not just employees - this is not just a job it is a calling! And now God has brought my life full circle and I get to be a part of the team! I was hired in February of this year. I get to be there and give encouragement to the birth mothers having gone through the experience and I get to give the adoptive parents a first hand view of what the birth mother goes through. There is even support for me 32 years later with group counseling. Not only do I feel the agency employees are family, I have a family of birth mothers that know what I have been through and still go through. We are there to love and support each other! I would not trade my experience for anything in the world!! Trigger warning: abuse, trauma Disclaimer: this is my best friends story and I take it as fact as I have witnessed first hand and the unfolding years later... As a former birth mother, AIM Adoptions did not protect me at the most vulnerable and sad time of my life. I am a survivor of rape that got me pregnant and wanted to make the best out of the situation. I did not tell people I got raped because I blamed myself, as many women do. I only said I don't remember what happened. AIM adoptions pushed me from the start to do an 'open' or 'semi-open' adoption, neither of which I wanted. AIM adoptions also worked closely with my mom, hyping her up about being a 'grandmother' soon even though I was greatly mentally suffering and did not consider this child I was about to deliver to be my child. I kept true to my word about wanting the adoption closed throughout the whole process. At the literal last minute when I had the legal papers in my hands at the hospital recovering from a C-Section, I was manipulated and coerced to sign the papers as an open adoption because of all the pressure from the adoption agency and my parents. Years later I made the call to them to change the adoption to closed. They said they changed it. I just found out the other day that they didn't legally close the adoption. After speaking with an attorney today I found out that I can never legally close the adoption after it's signed the first time. My heart is broken and I feel defeated. I believe AIM adoptions had the moral obligation to help and protect me at the worst time of my life. There was obvious cries for help from me. There was obvious manipulation and power control tactics done by that the agency overlooked or maybe even encouraged. (My mother insisting on paying for my labor and delivery when instead it's traditionally the adoption agency, my mother telling the adoption agency to speak to me about how me giving up the baby for adoption hurts HER and not only me, me changing my 'decision' to closed last minute, etc.). This situation has given me PTSD and has estranged me from my family. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. If you are a young pregnant woman you are already in a vulnerable and scary mindset. Don't let this agency make you feel bad about if you want your adoption closed or not protect you against your abusive spouse/family member. Looking back if I was in this situation again I wish I would have trusted the local fire station instead of this agency. read more

When we were looking to adopt we applied to a few places AIM included. They contacted us to start the home study process and the rest is history. We adopted in December 2010. They are very devoted to making the right match rather than first come first serve and they are experts at this! The Birth Mother's are highly respected and any help they need is given (within reason). They make sure the decision these lovely ladies make is theirs, be it to adopt or to raise their baby, they are supported no matter what. Also the friendships made in a group home study are for life! We are still in contact with several families and the kids all love to play together! They have 2 parties a year for all the families to get together and they are a blast! They also have an awesome Christmas party for the birth mothers. If you want to grow your family through adoption, this is the place to go!! read more
