I've been forced to fly with Air Canada for over 30 years because they effectively have a monopoly in Canada. The air staff is friendly, but the air line itself has been grossly mismanaged for at least 10 years. In my experience, the biggest problem is that they schedule flights and connections far too aggressively, and they have a terrible "departure on time" record. I decided that I had had enough when they forced me, my wife and my dog to stay 2 days in a connecting city, Toronto, in a 1-star hotel and without our bags, while in the middle of winter. The Customer Service staff lied to us about the availability of flights to our destination or the reimbursements we would receive. We ended up paying out of pocket for first class tickets at a premium and never got reimbursed. (This is after the Canadian government got involved and couldn't fully address the issue, after 3 years.) The problem with this company is with the C-suite. The board need to fire them and, likely, the board needs to be replaced. Worse, this company mars the experience of travellers to and from Canada. They were about to delay our trip because of some bad weather, but things went on task when they dropped us off in OAkland. But we ended up in Toronto on time. This review is for the Air Canada Aeroplan program and the snippy phone mis"representative" who "assisted" me. My account was somehow deactivated and I was asked to call an 800 number in order to reactivate it. She told me that Aeroplan randomly deactivates accounts for security purposes and instructed me to email a photograph of myself to prove I wasn't a bot. When I told her that I wouldn't do that because a bot wouldn't be speaking to her on the phone, she became very snippy so I told her that Air Canada just lost a customer, but she didn't seem to care. 8/21 & 8/25/25 roundtrip 7a LAX to Toronto and return 4p from Toronto to LAX. Comfortable seats towards the front of the plane and exemplary service by flight service directors (oversees onboard services and flight attendants) on both flights. I was more observant on the return flight to LAX. Isabella provided exceptional service to ensure passengers were comfortable as I watched her handling requests for a blanket, a taste of the wine to a passenger, and asking if I wanted a drink with my snack. I enjoyed the hot entrees provided, the glass of Pinot wine, Lavassa coffee, and variety of snacks offered. The buttered chicken was surprisingly spicy. No problem for me because I like spicy food, but can see where it might be too spicy for some. Overall, I had a good experience as a first-time passenger on this airline, which made my first visit and impression of Toronto a positive one. I also liked hearing the directors speak both French and English when making announcements to the passengers. Also, two outside cameras allowed for viewing during takeoff and landing on the screens in front of us. Air Canada recently voted Best Airline in North America at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards! Congrats!!! read more

I am writing this review here because there is no meaningful way to contact AC with a complaint. Their online option to 'leave a compliment' glitches and makes any contact impossible. While AC is a necessary evil, I loathe giving this organization any money. They are predatory, useless and one of the worst airlines on the planet. I'm not convinced their gate agents have ever seen a computer, the flights are always over booked, and any semblance of concern for their CUSTOMERS is forced and useless. THE WORST! This is potentially the most poorly run airline I have ever used. Almost every employee is miserable and could not care less about customer outcomes. When they gave my and my family's connection seats away due to a delay, even though we could have caught the flight, they tried to book me on a flight 24 hours later. I went to their "customer assistance" desk and dealt with the absolute worst customer service rep I have dealt with in ANY industry over my 47 years. I wish I had her name but she was the only one with a generic name tag. If anyone at Air Canada cares (not holding my breath) she is Toronto-based, in her 60s with bobbed grey/black hair, a German accent, and a potentially failed past career in acting. First, she told me that she was on the line with the absolute best agent they had and that he had shockingly found us a flight for 24 hours later. That precise flight had already been provided to us by their internal system 10 minutes prior. She may not have even been on the phone with anyone at all. When I explained to her that I was meeting my 18 year old son in Munich the following morning, a British citizen with no German language skills, she threw up her arms and begrudgingly got back on the phone. To call this woman a "drama queen" would be an understatement. We had now been dealing with her for around 10-12 minutes and she couldn't handle it. Although there were three other reps working, the line of 4-5 customers behind us was too much for her to handle. She told me "these people are here waiting and have the exact same problems you have" - again, gesturing dramatically. I replied, "they have a teenage son who they're meeting at their destination who is going to be stranded for 24 hours?". Her response, (throws up arms) "Probably! Why don't you ask them!". When she tried to complain to her coworkers about me, on more than one occasion they said "don't worry about the line, please help this customer." At this point I was ready to be done. I nodded until we could get away from her. We then went upstairs to a ticketing counter and the only non-miserable Air Canada employee I met throughout the day, a great guy named Sebastian Johnson, spent five minutes to get me and my family on a flight leaving immediately, allowing us to arrive in Munich only 5 hours later than originally planned. We were without our baggage for 24 hours but we met my son and were at our destination. While the overall outcome was less than a total disaster, I will avoid Air Canada at all costs moving forward. I was assaulted on the airplane from Toronto to Mexico by another passenger, and Air Canada failed to protect me and let the aggressor run away once the airplane landed in Mexico. A flight attendant reported false information to the police in Mexico, and they didn't report him to the authorities. They mandated me to delete the video I recorded as evidence as they knew that would be problematic for them. They also banned me from returning flight without any heads up! January 4th, 2025 flight AC1294. Pre border the flight at 5 p.m and after sitting on the plane for 45 minutes the captain came on the speaker and said that there was a problem with the computer system on the flight deck. We got off the plane and sat at the gate. At approximately 8:00p.m the captain was told we would depart at 9:20 p.m and he said "that was past hours and he left". We then were moved to a new gate 53 and told the we would board the plane arriving from Fort Lauderdale. We boarded that plane and sat on the tarmac for an hour the captain said that there was a problem with the cargo door. We finally departed at 11:00 p.m and arrived in Fort Myers at 2:09 a.m. I filed a flight disruption claim within 72 hours. Air Canada responded saying "this flight was delayed due to bad weather outside our control". That was not the case. Shocking experience, delayed 2.5 hours travelling from Dublin to Toronto, connecting flight cancelled from Toronto to Vancouver, rescheduled flight then delayed twice resulting in our first day on holiday totally disrupted. On the return flight from Vancouver to Toronto AC112 delayed from 12:10 to 1:45 ( no big deal) then delayed again till 3:45 and subsequent delayed until 11:30 finally taking off after midnight!! Tried to book a flight from Seattle to Montreal on Expedia, but the site was having issues so I called Air Canada directly. Talked with Benjamin. The call was three times longer than it needed to be as he had to repeat everything twice and kept putting me on hold to check on things. His initial quote was about $75-$100 per ticket higher than Expedia, but I expected as much. Twenty minutes after after collecting a plethora of information, he suddenly tells me the ticket prices had increased in the short time we were on the phone. To the tune of $400-$500 more per ticket. Fortunately, I was checking other flights and found tickets to Montreal from Las Vegas on another airline for more than half the cost. Air Canada sucks! read more

@AirCanada - Shame on you!!! Took $520 in "fees" from my elderly parents after they mistakenly clicked the wrong button on the AC website. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. My parents have been loyal customers of Air Canada for over 30 years, and they've always appreciated their service--until now. We recently encountered a frustrating issue while changing a booking for my folks on Air Canada's website. Instead of changing their tickets, they were accidentally canceled. Realizing the mistake, we immediately called Air Canada to ask for assistance. We just wanted to push the dates out on their tickets by 2 weeks, not cancel them outright. We were confident Air Canada's customer relations team could assist us with this simple request. Unfortunately, we were informed that our request couldn't be processed, which was incredibly disappointing. A mere 15 minutes had passed (we were on hold for 13 of those 15 minutes). The worst part is that from the $820 we paid for these airline tickets, they're processing a refund of $268 - keeping a whopping $552 in NON-REFUNDABLE fees. They said, "File a claim for the non-refundable fees" using their online form. So, we did but have yet to receive the file number they promised would appear in our email "shortly." Worse yet, after calling twice today, their customer relations agents hung up on us - both times. The last agent was particularly rude stating, "ma'am, you're just going to have to accept that your ticket was cancelled and there's nothing we can do about it." Then click. She hung up on us. Well Air Canada, we think there's plenty you can do about it. How about acting in good faith for loyal, long-term customers who've never asked for assistance before and simply hit the wrong key on your website? How about you just keep the $820 and apply it to a new booking? That is all we're trying to do. It is disheartening to have our issue dismissed like this. It is: · Wrong for this airline to refuse to assist a customer in changing a ticket. · Wrong to not have enough customer service agents to answer calls promptly, forcing customers to use their website but then penalizing those customers when mistakes happen on said website · Wrong to promise a case number and then not provide one. · Wrong to hang up on a customer twice when they're trying to resolve an issue. · Wrong to refuse to help rectify an issue, claiming "there's nothing we can do" · Wrong to take $552 in fees from an elderly couple because they made a mistake using your website Air Canada needs to reconsider their approach to customer service. AWFUL service and not accommodating at all for THEIR piss poor last minute inconveniences. Air Canada cancelled my flight and both rescheduled AND re-routed it for 2 days later, which would have meant further expenses for hotel stays, etc. I booked it from Toronto to Newark, AC changed it and ADDED a connection - Toronto to Ottawa to Newark. Ultimately, I had to cancel altogether and book a flight on another airline at the last minute. Thankfully, my travel agent was able to fight on my behalf for a refund and eventually, it was approved. However, going forward, I would recommend or fly Air Canada. Air Canada advised that the flights might be canceled starting Sunday September 15th due to the potential strike. We had Premium Economy seats on Sunday flight. They offerred no fee flight change. But when we tried to switch to Saturday, they offered us Economy seats instead of Premium Economy for much higher price. We asked why so the agent said that they increased the price due to people changing the flights because of the potential strike. So this whole no fee exchange is one big scam. If the chance permits I hope you are able to enjoy the cafe bronte currant and dark chocolate cookie while sitting at economy class. It's the best cookie ever. Chewy and not too sweet. It's the perfect treat. If you are lucky and there's left over cookies, it may be possible to ask your flight attendant for an extra during the long flight! The cafe bronte fruit and oatmeal cookie is also good but it's just not the same! Best part about business class is the champagne. I always ask for champagne and orange juice to make my own mimosa. Absolutely despicable company with an even more embarrassing customer service team. First of all, I have never come across a company as large as Air Canada with such little regard or care for their customers. They often feel that they can do whatever they want, cancel flights at the last minute, and tells their customers to "figure it out". I recently went on a flight that was cancelled 12 HOURS BEFORE TAKEOFF. 6 hours before we were originally supposed to leave, I called to ask for updates or any compensation. The response I got from the customer service staff named Marie was to, and quote "you should've planned for us cancelling the flight". I'm sorry, I'm a customer that paid for an airplane ticket, and I expect to receive an airplane ticket!!! I'm not Michael Rousseau, I can't control the damn airline. The customer service was beyond rude, and plain unprofessional. Michael Rousseau (Air Canada CEO), you better figure out how to improve customer service at your company. Got a good deal on a flight to Toronto with Air Canada. Read a lot of my fellow Yelpers reviews. We entered this flight with no expectations. The pilot and flight attendants greeted EACH passenger at the beginning of our flight. I want to stress the word EACH. Not sure why, but I've been on a number of flights in which the flight crew pick and choose who they want to greet. It was refreshing to see this team equally welcoming to ALL their passengers. The flight attendants were incredibly friendly, professional and helpful. As far as service goes, it has greatly improved from my past experiences with this airline. They offer complimentary drinks and pretzels for those of us flying coach. The pretzels were greatly appreciated. I've been on flights in which they won't offer any complimentary snacks. Obviously when flying coach, tighter seating is to be expected. However, these seats were much tighter than some other coach seats I've sat on. The tray table was quite dirty. The fabric lining the chairs were old, stained and ripping. Work needs to be done on the cleanliness and maintenance around the passenger seating area. All in all, 3 stars because we didn't break the bank flying to Toronto and the employees were incredibly hospitable. read more

Too bad I can't give negative stars. Here's all you need to know about Air Canada: AVOID at all costs!! If you need a bit more substance than that, here you go: This is the only airline I've flown who thinks it's appropriate to make passengers board a 3+ hour delayed flight and promise that there will be agents waiting upon landing to give hotel vouchers for the overnight stay before the next connecting flight. There were no agents at the airport, all their phone lines were conveniently down, and no meal/hotel vouchers were given out for the 8 hour overnight delay. According to legal policy, an 8+ hour delay is entitled to hotel voucher but Air Canada skimps out on all their responsibilities. To make matters worse, their social media person on Facebook told me "There's nothing we can do. Hotel vouchers are limited." Air Canada, you choose to fly a certain number of passengers - you can't pick and choose and only help first class passengers! And don't tell me hotel vouchers are limited when they're in fact absent lol. Hours later in the middle of the night, a rude agent finally showed up and claimed "A $10 breakfast voucher is all you can get. Take it or leave it." You know what I'm gonna leave? Your airline!! This is the first and LAST time I will ever fly with this company. My luggage was lost on June 2, 2022. It has been 43 days and the only person I spoke with after a 1 hour and 48 minute hold could only tell me that I should respond to the email confirmation of my claim. I have done so about every 2 days and still have not received my luggage, my reimbursement or a response. I also asked for a supervisor to call me back but I suppose he/she It is important to note that I had carry on luggage but the flight attendants would not attempt to locate a place for it and simply said it was full and took my luggage and checked it THROUGH instead of gate checking. Yikes, only 1.5 stars for this airline? I flew them recently from Saskatoon to Toronto to Detroit. Other than the Toronto airport being insane, I had a good experience on Air Canada. On my first flight, the plane had video screens, so I was able to watch a movie, and the seats were roomy - I usually fly Delta or Southwest and they seemed bigger than both. The aisle was bigger too - I'm not a small woman, so normally I have to angle myself to walk down it, and this time I didn't need to. My only complaint is that for my 3-hour Saskatoon to Toronto flight, no snacks were served. The woman sitting next to me, who was Canadian, said this is typical of Air Canada. However, on my 45-ish min. flight from Toronto to DTW, we got pretzels.... So I'm not sure how that works. Overall, a decent airline that I'd fly again if I was traveling to Canada. read more

I do not recommend that you fly with Air Canada. I cannot remember when I have ever had such poor customer service from an airline or any business for that matter. It is impossible to et through to them via customer service on their website and they direct you to their Facebook page. That can take several days to get a reply each time and the excuse is alway that they are having a constant high volume. Calling Air Canada by phone caused me to be placed on hold for an EXTREMELY long period of time on an expensive international cell phone call. When I politely informed the customer of this she snapped what did I want her to do about it. Still no effective customer service to my queries after all my efforts. I'm so disappointed. I wanted to be proud of this airline, but this wasn't the case. My flight from Korea to Toronto had the rudest, most arrogant stewardesses and cabin crew i've ever experienced. I had been looking forward to coming home to Toronto but this flight made it an unhappy one. They bump into you from behind and hardly say "excuse me" when they are approaching you from behind. Instead, they say "watch your arm". They even talk to you as if they think they are the best in the world. You can even feel that entitlement energy, bossiness and mentality from them, yet WE are the paying customers. I would never recommend this airline unless the staff start behaving as polite and courteous as other airlines like Korean Air, Philippine Airlines or even Cathay Pacific. I flew 7 times in 2 weeks and I can say that I noticed the difference in behaviour, attitude and personalities of the stewards/stewardesses. So it is suoer-easy to compare the customer service on the flights. 6 out of 7 of them were pleasant. 1 of them was horrible - that was Air Canada (Korea to Toronto). read more

Don't fly this airline if you have a lap sitting toddler or baby!!!! On our return flight from toronto to chicago they made us wait at ticket counter from 1pm to 2:30 pm april 9th because they couldn't figure how to issue our infant seat. We had no problem inbound to canada a few days earlier so we were shocked they were both struggling with this and passive aggressively blaming us for not calling them in advance to notify of the lapsit (we did, when we booked the tickets). Their computers were down apparently and we might have had a trainee who wasn't getting any help from her colleagues chatting to each other. Our baby had a meltdown and started throwing up, and after customs (thankfully) expedited our entry and we ran to the gate, the last to board due to their error, we discovered they had issued us separate seats on the plane, to boot. Baby was sick on plane but they were unhelpful throughout. Next time we go to toronto we will try porter or a US carrier. These people made our baby suffer and i cannot ever forgive that. read more

Ugh...The quest to save a Loonie! It's the usual story - at least for half the passengers on the flight. Happened to me quite a bit during biz and pleasure trips. On this trip, my flight was on a smaller plane. It was an airbus 320 (I think) and then it was shifted to a small Boeing and then the plane was delayed by 30mins and then by an hour. The plane became a large Boeing and my seats were now screwed up. My child and I had a window and aisle seat. It now stays the same but a stranger is now sitting between us as the 2 seat config becomes a 3 seat config. What happened? For those who don't know, this happens a lot in busy flight corridors across Air Canada's flight centres. It's the way to save the LOONIES. Two flights are scheduled - one hour apart. If the flights are not a capacity and they can squeeze two flights into one, they will! By delaying the first flight, they can now inconvenience the first plane passengers by combining the passengers from the later flight into a bigger plane. Nice for the half the passengers to be flying on time - and they have no clue what happened. However, for those who were delayed - too bad. Ahhhh...air travel...sux wind! read more

If you're feeling extra-lucky, this 20 hour sleepover will pay off with a $69 slap in the face promo code a few weeks later. Customer service was nowhere to be found during our experience. Instead, the airline drug out canceling our flight until 2am - then sent us to a hotel for two hours and back to the airport for a Plan B flight that would also be delayed twice. The funny (har har) thing is, the morning flight was delayed because Indy's custom offices do not open until 8am--it seems that the airline would have known this prior to planning a new flight with an impossible departure time. Whoever the trigger pulling Gods are on the Toronto team, they were weakkkkk. The thing is, this airline is King in Canada and they know you're stuck. I received no such email and find their response to be pretty worthless. My favorite part of the letter comes at the end, where they thank me for my support and "look forward to welcoming you on board in the near future." What in the world would lead them to believe I would ever purchase a ticket on their airline again? *** 'Dear Ms. Farrelly, Thank you for your email. I am very concerned at the adverse impression you received from our check in agent. To check in. Seriously? There was a WHOLE line of us & only 3 desk people. Either they have poor staffing or they're just an ineffective staff. It was sad. They couldn't even properly check in the people who had a flight in 1.5 hrs from the time I was in line. It was a mess. The kiosks to check you in also didn't work, which made the line even longer. I finally got to the front desk and the woman had the nerve to ask me if I used the kiosk. I said no, I didn't try. She says to me 'You should have at least TRIED.' B***, nuh uh! How about YOU & your staff TRY harder, work more effectively, AND have kiosks that actually work? Oh, and not be so sorry for sorry ass service? I'm so done... I don't have time for trying a kiosk that doesn't work. Time is precious. I go to kiosks that work and aren't faulty. Like at other airline counters. Le sigh... Then, because of weather the flight is cancelled a good 2 hrs. So where was I? Yep, on the runway for 2 hrs. Haven't encountered that ever with an airline. Back to the gate we went when that occurred. It was just a long, drawn out experience I don't want to encounter ever again. No trying to make up for anything. It was all a big disappointment. Pretty inconsistent service, the food is terrible, and they don't give a shit about your luggage. I flew Air Canada to Japan. The flight there was decent, the attendants were friendly and efficient. The food on the other hand, there and back, was more like dog vomit. I do have to say I like their large aircrafts that had the individual monitors on the back of the seats. They had great movie options...when it worked. On our 9 hour flight back my fiancé had a monitor that was stuck and kept flashing back and forth between screens. We asked an attendant if she could remotely power it off from another spot. She said it wasn't her priority, we had just boarded so it was understandable, but she said she'd check on it. However, she went on to say sometimes you're lucky and it works and sometimes you're not. Real promising. We knew she wasn't going to do shit after that comment. She never came back and the screen remained the same. Two hours later it's a big issue when all the lights were off on the plane and the monitor kept flashing back and forth brightly, no one could sleep in our area. We push our light for an attendant. A different one comes by, she says she'll power it off from their "remote" switch, which she explained that she had to ask someone else where it was. We came to the conclusion it doesn't exist. We wait 30 minutes, it doesn't shut off. It got really cold, my fiancé needs another blanket since they can't shut the monitor off we used his blanket to cover it. He turns his attendant light on and waits. They shut his light off from the backroom somewhere. He turns it on again, same thing happens, and again, and again. Now he's waiting 25 minutes and pissed, he takes his flashlight on his phone and points it in the direction of the attendant. She finally comes over and says she thought he turned his light on by accident. So we asked her why she would keep turning it off if we kept pressing instead of coming over. She said she was on break. Our last connection to get back to Msp was in Toronto. It was raining like crazy. Guess what? They left our luggage out in the rain. My clothes are soaked along with my gift wrapped presents for friends and family. Not a good experience. read more

It's Air Canada, eh? I don't fly AC all that often (a few times per year) but I've had good luck with on time arrivals and departures, even into O'Hare. Flight crews are generally ok & the fleet seems well maintained. No airline is perfect, but keep in mind that I fly the worst of the worst on a regular basis (American + Frontier, I'm talking about you!) so AC is decent in my book. Big shout out to the gate agents at Toronto-Pearson, though. I changed my flight in the kiosk which then decided not to give me a boarding pass. The line for "check in assistance" was approximately 10,000,000 people long so I straight up begged for help from a nearby staffer. They were able to get me my pass fast and I made my flight as a result, getting me home several hours earlier than planned. Thanks AC! read more

Yech. Seats that have bottomed out 100 years ago, surly, way over-perfumed/over-cologned tired and jaded cabin crew - yes folks, your passengers really appreciate breathing in your disgusting perfume in a crowded plane. Never touch nor order the "food". Nasty airline. The words loathe and despise don't come close to describing how I feel about this sorry excuse of a carrier. Not to mention 6,000 "announcements" during the flight. Reason I suffered through this experience? It was a good price. But --- everything comes at a cost. Cheap price shit experience. read more

First time flying business class with them, expected it to be a lot better. The service was great at times, but still had moments where I was waiting a long time for an attendant to come by. The quality food was by far so much better than economy however, I felt like I got the short end of the stick as I sat in the last business class seat they served, which means if any of the food runs out I am out of luck. I wasn't able to get a salad as business class was booked fully. The snacks was pitiful on AC - only chips and chocolate bars, which by the way I was unable to eat any peanut products due to a nearby allergic passenger sitting in economy. Drink selection was not that great either, at other airlines they would give u mini alcohol bottles so that you can adjust the taste of your drink, at AC it was mixed for you. The entertainment system is very frustrating to work with. It is disorganized and very slow. At one point during the flight it had to be resetted and that took 15--20 minutes. Also have to add, they lost our baggage, waiting 3 whole days for it, when they advise it would come the next day. Luckily we were home bound but still very frustrating. I am surprised how they have not priorized the baggage considering the price of business class flight tickets. As well when it finally arrived, my baggage was in a very poor state with 2/4 wheels missing making it no longer useable. read more
