Comanche words were scattered everywhere, tying in with authentic Comanche art, artifacts, or collections... a few of which photos were not allowed. One of my softball coaches from college was/is Comanche. I still keep up with her on Facebook and her involvement with The Comanche Nation. The Comanche Code Talkers of World War II will never be forgotten! They were amazingly resilient... "their codes were never broken!" Loved all of the local artists pieces. The lobby display includes artifacts of the fallen Berlin Wall and 9/11. So much information along with artifacts and military vehicles and planes. The outside display include many other military vehicles, aircraft, and cannons. Hubby and I spend hours reading and visiting this fantastic museum. We came to attend our son's BCT graduation and this was one of the first places we visited and we are so glad that we did - our son's AIT will be Artillery and this museum has a wealth of artillery history from pre-revolutionary times to modern. I especially enjoyed the video showing us what our son will be doing in the Army Artillery. This old Fort Sill National Historic Landmark requires some imagination because it's still fully integrated into the base and officers still live in the old houses surrounding the parade field . Be sure to start in the main building and look at the diorama to get your bearings before you walk around. The best display is the old cavalry barracks which is set up exactly as it would have been around 1890-1900. Ft. Sill played an amazing part in our frontier history and this post does a good job of explaining it.

They have several hands on displays that are great for kids and adults. There is a movie theater that shows an 18 minute video about life on the cattle drive. I especially enjoyed their collection of western art. Their collection includes Remington, Russell and Catlin paintings. The outdoor bronze sculpture is amazing. The staff is very nice! They are very knowledgeable of the history of the Chisholm trail and more than willing to share their knowledge with visitors. Play with the light…read more Solid Light by Anthony McCall was such a fun experience. In a collaboration with the Tate Museum, the Oklahoma Contemporary Art Center has a very unique display. McCall's immersive light sculptures invite you to interact with but not touch the light. So much fun to walk through sculptural beams made of mist and projected light. This sensory experience was truly amazing. It was also a fun challenge to try to capture the images. The 2-D images on film barely scratch the surface of what you will enjoy in the Contemporary Arts Center. Ask questions to learn more. It was so interesting to hear about the installation. The center is just two floors of art. The exhibits change regularly. Parking and entry to the museum are both free. Enjoy the Solid Light.

The first floor was full of student art (from the adjacent studio I believe) and the third floor held a evocative exhibit, Jakian Parks: The Black Land. I wish I had had enough time to explore the grounds and the outside art. The best thing about OCAC is that it is free. (Please feel free to support this place and a $5 donation is encouraged.) I'm anxious to see what exhibits are on view the next time I'm in OKC.
