airbnb used to be a good deal but now its a nightmare! The pricing went through the roof during COVID. Most hosts have so many conditons, they are becoming more like prisons than a getaway for R&R. Then you have all the fees they tack on for cleaning, tax, and potential violations it's just no longer worth the hassle. Take Villa La Serena in Temecula for example, hosted by Neeru. Here is the list of rules one has to agree to prior to acceptance: Villa La Serena - House Rules & Policies No Pets, No Smoking, No Drugs No children under 12 (for safety reasons, as the pool and surrounding property are not fenced) Driver's License Requirement: The person booking the reservation must provide a copy of their driver's license to be kept on file. Spa Usage & Deposit: If you'd like to heat the spa, a $500 deposit is required. This will be billed separately after booking and charged the week before your check-in. A portion of the deposit may be refunded based on usage. Registered Guests Only: All guests must be registered prior to check-in. We require the names and phone numbers of each guest staying at the property. No outside visitors are allowed without prior approval. Security & Monitoring For security purposes, we have five outdoor security cameras located in the driveway, front door, side yard, pool area, and backyard. These cameras are only checked in cases of violations, neighbor complaints, or suspicious activity. There are no cameras inside the house or on the patio. Occupancy & Extra Guest Policy The maximum occupancy is 10 people. If we find that there are more guests than registered, you will be charged double the extra guest fee of $100 per person per night for your entire stay. Noise & Curfew Policy We have a strict noise policy to ensure a peaceful stay for all guests and our neighbors: No outdoor music after 9:30 PM No spa usage after 9:45 PM All guests must be inside the house by 10:00 PM Although the home sits on 4.5 acres, sound travels significantly, and we ask for your consideration of our neighbors in this residential area. If these rules are violated, fines will be deducted from the deposit held by Airbnb: $250 for the first violation $500 for the second violation Villa La Serena is designed for relaxation, breathtaking views, and enjoying the wineries in the area. If you're looking for a party venue, this is not the right property. Our strict curfew aligns with Riverside County noise regulations in Temecula. No Parties Allowed Only registered guests are permitted on the property. Parties and unapproved visitors are strictly prohibited. I engaged Neeru on his demand to be inside the house by 10P and he said it was a city ordinance. I pointed out that the regulation is for noise only and not a citywide curfew. I will not rent from ANYONE that treats its customer base like juveniles or criminals. Furthermore, I am getting requests from these owners to send a picture of my driver's license. Only accept to send yours in if they give you theirs. Once you provide the image, they can and will do with it what they please. Note that Temecula charges $50 for first time noise violations. Neeru will charge you 5X because he is looking to scam you out of as much $ as possible. You shouldn't trust airbnb and certainly not owners like this.

I paid to stay in an airbnb unit located at 2439 Gravier Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Upon arrival I sent pictures of the broken lock to front door, broken furniture and filthy and rusted items in the home. I was refused to cancel my stay, refused a partial refund and when individuals came out to clean, etc. The cleaning was partially done, the drawer and lock were never repaired and the rusty toaster was replaced with one that would not hold a bagel. I asked Airbnb to step in and they only offered a "one time courtesty" $200.00. I then attempted to write a review, and airbnb refused to post it stating they believe it would not be helpful to the community.

I have been using air bnb for years....over 27 stays and have never had a problem until now. I rented a place and had nothing but problems from the start. I wish we could put in pictures to show the justice. I walked into the home and immediately the first thing I saw was overgrown grass up to my 6 foot tall husband's waist into the stomach with abandoned shopping carts everywhere. They said we would have use of a patio that was a lie. The entire property wreaked like animal urine, and you could see spots on the carpet and on the couch, where there was obvious animal urine. Outside of that there was food left in the sink. There was food left in the microwave. The entire floor was gross. I believe this just touches the surface of everything that I encountered and that my children were forced to sleep in the animal Urine smell because I was told by the host to just use for breeze we didn't get in until 11:30 PM so we had no choice but to sleep there. Another thing we were not told is you could hear every movement going through the house so nobody got any sleep. I contacted Airbnb immediately at 5 AM the next morning. I went on for days with Airbnb, trying to get a refund I was told at one point I would receive a refund I didn't. I was told to leave the property immediately that morning, and I would get a refund which I left the property and still again no refund at the very beginning of our trip I had to come out another $700 just to find last-minute housing for me and my family finally after days of arguing with Airbnb they only refunded me half of what I paid for the week of the Airbnb, which they didn't even want to do that. The only reason they did was because what they claimed was an employee that was not qualified to told me that I would get a refund. I went to the highest person at Airbnb. I am very, very disgusted and overall dissatisfied and will not be using Airbnb again. I will be using VRBO and Expedia rentals. My renter was nothing that was described in the pictures. The smell was unbearable and a health hazard to my children and Airbnb refused to do nothing about it but give me half of a refund only because somebody messed up and told me they would otherwise I was told by air B and B I would not have gotten a refund. Very disappointed and unsatisfied to say the least beware of any Airbnb's that you get because Airbnb will not cover you.
I have stayed at Airbnbs all over the world (usually when traveling with a big group of friends), and while they may be a good option for a larger group - I think I definitely still prefer staying at hotels when I travel solo or with one friend or my spouse. Our Airbnb in New York had the power go out in the middle of the night and our hosts were way into the city at a show and couldn't get back to fix it for us. And their elderly mother started wandering around shouting for them, which was a bit uncomfortable. On the other hand, the AirBNB we rented in Portugal was gorgeous and had the Duoro River outside our window. And our most recent Airbnb was a gorgeous unit in Copenhagen near a lot of attractions and in a nice neighborhood. So there is good and bad in any of the properties/hosts. My only other big reason for choosing hotels over most Airbnbs is that you don't have a chore list to complete when checking out of a hotel. And it used to be that Airbnb was a cost effective alternative to hotels, but now they're right on par in cost (or even more!) So I think in the future, I would only book an Airbnb if I was traveling with a large group that needed separate rooms, or if there were no available hotels in the area. read more
My review is a bit different compared to all the one-star ratings. Mine is from the perspective of a first-time AirBnB guest who avoided staying at one due to the horror stories out there, likely including those mentioned in the one-star reviews. I have often heard about seedy AirBnB places illegally placing hidden cameras in their properties. Some are unsanitary. I was persuaded by a couple of friends to try an AirBnB. My friend in Victoria often returns to the Beaches in Toronto. She has never had a problem and recommended that I carefully look at the reviews for each property. My other friend often stays at AirBnB properties when she goes on business trips. She finds them cheaper, especially when she is travelling with others. They split the cost of the bill. I have always stayed at hotels until my recent trip to Winnipeg. Hotels rooms were super expensive just before Canada Day. I had booked mine months in advance and the cost was still expensive. I turned to AirBnB and found a place in the Island Lakes (Saint Boniface) area that was perfect. It was 65% cheaper than staying at the hotel that I had booked in advance. Signing up for an AirBnB account was straightforward. I had to prove that I was me by taking a photo of any government-issued ID. I went with my passport. I took a photo and the site did a security scan. Done! I had an extremely responsive couple who were my AirBnB hosts. Communication was stellar. They asked that I text them a reminder through the app's chat to generate a code for the door. It was nice to have a code without dealing with keys or a keycard. I sent the reminder. They gave me the code and impeccable instructions on how to use the door. I never downloaded the AirBnB app. My chats were all through my phone's browser. You don't need it. I was supposed to arrive on June 30. Due to the WestJet pilot/engineer strike causing flight cancellations, which prompted WestJet customers to find alternatives with Air Canada (AC), I missed my AC flight due to issues at the airport, volume, and baggage system issues. It took me over an hour to drop off my luggage. I let my hosts know that I was going to be a day late through text on AirBnB's online site. They were sympathetic and appreciated that I let them know. All was great when I got there on Canada Day. Parking on the street was free. Most of the time, I got a parking spot steps away from the side door. The neighbourhood was safe and had lots of families. The photos on the site matched what I was looking at in this comfy basement apartment. I had to plug in the fridge, which had a few cans of pop and bottled water in it. I cracked open a mini can of Pepsi Zero after returning from Canada Day festivities. When I checked out, I replaced it with a full bottle of Circle K water. I was unpacking and couldn't find the bath towels. I sent a text to let my hosts know that I had arrived and asked where I could find the bath towels. The woman was kind to tell me they were in a bin in the bedroom. It wasn't in the instructions. She was kind to say that she'd come down and help out. We met. She was nice. I let her know that I found them. She was happy that I made it to Winnipeg. I thanked her for helping me out. It was the only time that I had a question. We both left each other alone during my eight-night stay (I paid for nine) at their place. I was comfortable. With kids, they do run around, but they eventually tire out well before I want to go to bed. The good thing was that I woke up roughly when the family did, so I didn't have any issues waking up to kids crying or upset. The electrical plugs were in weird spots where having an extension cord would have been helpful. I had a mini humidifier sit on a chair instead of the desk, for instance. Luckily, I had my fifteen-foot USB C cable to charge my phone by the TV, and it stretched to both the sofa and dining areas. I followed the instructions carefully. Eating on the couch or on the bed wasn't allowed. I made sure that I turned off all the lights, took all the trash to a designated place, and unplugged the fridge before I checked out. The bedroom was spacious. I liked all hangers in the closet for my clothes. No complaints. The washroom was clean. It could have used more shelving for toiletries. The shower had the perfect water pressure. It had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I loved the washer and dryer. I used them several times. It was nice doing a load of laundry before I headed home. It was one less thing to deal with. The kitchenette was great. I only used the microwave and sink. They were perfect for my needs. Stairs led me to and from this place. The air conditioning was effective. It was all good. I let them know that I had checked out just before the 11 am time. I thanked them for having me. They reciprocated and wished me a good flight home. I'd stay here again. It felt like my home away from home. The hosts were nice and their place was comfy. (285) read more

We booked a dog friendly house in NH for a few days. It looked nice in the photos. However, when we arrived, there was a smell in the kitchen, the doors were sticking and hard to open and close. There were no curtains, and the neighborhood was not that great. The worse thing was the poison ivy all over the yard. We decided to leave. We notified the host and as we were driving home he called and denied the fact that there was any poison ivy on the property. My biggest complaint is that Airbnb did NOTHING! All correspondence is done by text. Even though I had photos of the poison ivy, they didn't care. No customer service at all. First and last time using Airbnb. What a joke. read more

As a host in Alabama, I warn others that occupancy tax is expensive and eats at profits. I received my property tax for past year, I called the county. They check homes renting short term and charged school tax high dollar and much more!!!! read more

We,a large family, had book a home in Tacoma,WA, for July 18-21, we are pati waiting for our code, family members go around to back yard to look in and find that the house is not livab due to floors and walls stripped out, after many calls to host and Airbnb, this large family, who have saved for this special trip is stranded, with no money and no place to stay for the next 4 days and no answers, no hotel availabiliy, wait they may refund money in 7-10 days, oh and give a $20. voucher for future stays, no one in this party will ever book with them again, I do believe BBB has also been notified, corporate has asked for all receipts for alternate lodging, hopefully they will come through, one family member has had to shoulder the expenses for this whole disaster. I believe before booking through this site you also contact the host of the potential property to be sure it is i fact available! read more

I am not even a member of Airbnb and I briefly looked in their website for a property. Since then, I've received multiple spam emails from them. I have tried to "unsubscribe", but when I tap on that link, it brings to a page to log in or join, which I DON'T WANT TO DO. I have to give them my info, including birthdays, just to unsubscribe from unwanted spam emails. This is RIDICULOUS . read more

I have been using Airbnb for many years and have always received excellent reviews from the hosts, except for our last stay in Madrid. Even though I shouldn't have, I gave the host a 4 star review, and in return, she left a poor review of me. I contacted Airbnb to ask them to remove the poor review, and explained why...because it was not at all the truth. They looked at my request and then denied my request to remove it. All they had to do was to look at all my other reviews and maybe they would have noticed that this person who gave me the poor review didn't stand up to all of my other great reviews. I've spent A LOT of money over the years, and this was how they want to treat their loyal customers. Shame on Airbnb. read more

I have used Airbnb for over 10 years and have NEVER needed to contact Airbnb for a refund due to an issue before until this past weekend. The place I stayed at misrepresented the property through outdated listing pictures (super dirty furniture and zero blinds/curtains to block light) and was missing basic amenities like toilet paper and towels despite it being a 5 day stay that cost over $1,100. The host was unresponsive to messages, and the property overall was super uncared for. I reached out to Airbnb to get at least a partial refund for what I thought were objectively issues with the booking and my enjoyment of the experience. The "ambassadors" I spoke to said helpful-seeming things, but really did nothing in the end and did not validate the issues I experienced. I'm super disappointed because I have always believed in Airbnb's overall goal: to create a community through sharing of homes all over the world. I have had incredible hosts who are attentive and who have accurate listings, and to me, this is what Airbnb should incentivize. The one time I had a problem and needed help / advocacy, I was met with not that much helpfulness, and that sucks as a longterm user and fan of the service. read more

I've been using airbnb for several decades and they only get worse. They don't care if you are a host or use their site as a guest. I have an apartment attached to my home and I made it where they guest must first contact me to see if available and the site switched it to auto book. I had two bookings right away where I had to cancel. One was very upset and wrote a nasty review and she never stayed in my unit. I was pleasant and explained it, I contacted airbnb to remove and they would not. Although this was at the fault of airbnb. I stayed in an apartment with mold issues and I was not the only one to report it. Then my car was illegally towed, with the permit for parking on the dash. I'm out over $600 for my car that I had to go pick up, plus all the uber transports since it was done on a Saturday night and I couldn't pick it up until Monday. Airbnb has not been any help, all that I asked for was the HOA's phone number and I will handle it and they couldn't do that. This is one of the worst companies and there needs to be better alternatives! This is only 2 of the many issues I've had with this company. Truly very poorly managed and all that they care about is making lots of $$ at the expense of everyone. read more

We have used AirBnB on a number of occasions and had initially been lucky in that nothing happened that required any assistance from the company. Now that we have needed them, they simply weren't there. We had to cancel a short stay because a surprise winter storm dumped enough snow and ice on our path to prevent travel to the venue. The venue was happy to eat our money and AirBnB was totally bureaucratic about it, pushing us onto their useless travel insurance, provided by Generali Global Assistance & Insurance Services. After five months of wrangling, the company denied the claim since the venue was not destroyed by a disaster and the government did not issue a travel ban to the destination. I no longer recommend AirBnB or Generali Global Assistance & Insurance Services as the small amount of money you might save is not worth the risk you are taking. This is born out by the huge number of complaints on BBB. A real hotel with a reputation to lose is a better bet. read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH SKYLINE MANOR RENTALS ON AIRBNB! SCAMMER ALERT My family (2 adults, 5 children) stayed at Skyline Manor in Newark, NJ from April 14-17. During our stay, the stove constantly emitted smoke, which I reported to the host. He assured me not to worry, and even shared positive feedback from his cleaners about how well we left the apartment. However, immediately after leaving a five-star review and privately messaging about unresolved maintenance issues, I was falsely accused of smoking in the unit (despite no one in my family being a smoker) and hit with a $900 cleanup fee. After researching, I found this is a recurring pattern with this host. I caution future guests to be aware of these unfair practices. read more

I am a journalist, professor, author, and travel writer going through a similar nightmare. To their credit, Airbnb refunded the cost of my bad stay & paid for the cost of my hotel stay when I had to flee the apartment for my personal safety. In retaliation to my complaints, the host filed $9k in false damage charges (I videoed the place before I left and photographed it when I arrived, which he didn't know) & then when I didn't pay a cent (hello, insurance fraud!), he sent Airbnb a photo of WHITE POWDER in a bag (probably his own cocaine) to frame me for drugs! I had to contact the US Embassy & local police bc of his repeated slander/harassment/stalking/extortion. When that didn't work, he claimed weeks later I was on his property to frame me for stalking when Airbnb knew I was in the Arctic lol! Psychopathy alert! Then he wrote a slanderous insane review (which included my personal medical history) that they wouldn't take down. He claimed he couldn't rent the "damaged" apt but then rented it 3 days ago to a woman whose review he clearly wrote himself, as it's in the same incoherent insane style of writing. Airbnb still has this repeated offender (violating laws and their own terms) listed as renting multiple properties. In my research, I found they have also let sexual assault perps stay on as hosts. Further, Airbnb's recent transparency report shows they only side with guests for escalated damaged disputes 12% of the time. I am still in this ongoing nightmare, as their third-party insurer is still doing their investigation even though there is nothing to investigate as all my documentation and evidence makes perfectly clear. In sum: never use Airbnb and pass it on! read more

I booked a trip for a one week stay in Aromas, CA with Irene and Gerry and it was unclear to me that the rental was just two bedrooms - no shared living space. I realized this though reading additional reviews. I canceled 17 days before my trip and only received $87 back from my payment of $716!!! I have been using this app for years! Airbnb did nothing - they asked the host to refund me and he refused. I feel as though Airbnb should do the right thing and refund me. Never again. The ad was very unclear and I am not the only one to fall victim to this. read more

We booked a $6000/month Airbnb in Hawaii. For 2 months. We had numerous maintenance, construction noise, and safety issues after the first couple of days. We notified Airbnb resolution department and had a horrible time communicating with their reps, with absolutely no help. We had to leave a month earlier than our reservation was made for, losing 6 grand. The owner and the neighbors actually threatened us. Two days ago I called AirBnB to request clarification on their policy for making changes to a reservation. I wanted to know if there was a date I could leave my current property with no penalty, giving the owner enough time to find a replacement. They told me to call the owner and work it out with them. I texted back and forth with owner and they said I could move out at the end of the 31 days I had already paid for with no penalty, giving them roughly 27 days to find another tennant. I called AirBnB back and they said to send a screen shot of the text conversation and they would authorize changes. Word for word the text said, "to be clear, I can move out on the 16th with no additional money taken?" They replied "correct." I posted this on the AirBnB message thread and they replied about an hour later. "We have confirmed details with owner. There is an additional charge of $525, if you agree to these charges we will proceed with changes." I immediately called AirBnB and told them I do not agree to the charges. I also posted to the messages with AirBnB saying I do not agree to the charges. They proceeded to take $525 from my account within the hour. I have been attempting to get them to refund my $525 for over a day now and they keep responding with a breakdown of the fees. I never agreed to the fee's, regardless of how they justify them. They explicitly wrote "If you agree, we will proceed." I never agreed and they went forward anyways. Taking my ability to assess the charges and decide if I wanted to move forward. This is incredibly illegal and unethical and they refuse to admit mistake and remedy. I am tempted to take them to court as this is all documented, but honestly the most I could likely recover is $525 and the time and effort, plus at least a missed day of work, makes it unreasonable to pursue. Something I believe they may have factored into their decision to behave this way. The only reasonable recourse I have, is to post this review to expose how they are behaving. Hoping that others read this and are concerned with their behavior. Also, there is a very real possibility that this is an isolated group within AirBnB that is so concerned with not admitting they made a mistake, that they are stonewalling me and not allowing me to escalate to a high enough level to actually have corrected. There is a real possibility of Corporate seeing this review, as many companies of this size have departments that read negative reviews online as a way of watchdogging their own company. Hopefully that happens, and if so I will update the review with the resolution and remedy of what they have currently done to me. Everything I have written is true and provable with screen shots. I will gladly attach them to this review, if they comment and refute what I have written, but will hold off on doing so initially because I will need to scrub the images of any private information, like the homeowner's phone number in the text convo screen shots. The homeowners have been excellent through this process and all fault lies in the action/behavior of the specific Airbnb employees responsible for these actions. ***Update*** After posting this review, taking screen shots of review and sending to the ongoing chat with AirBnB service department they refunded/credited my account with the amount that was previously taken without my permission. ***Final Update - I want to be 100% sure that this review does not come off looking like positive feedback for Airbnb. After asking permission to move forward with new charges and me immediately saying no, they took $525 from my account anyways. For the 36 hours following this incident I tried every way possible to point out what they did with roughly 30 messages back and forth and they refused to admit fault or offer any form of resolution. Once I posted a review of exactly what happened and sent them screen shots of my review I was offered resolution within 1 hour. Still, this resolution was $120 dollars returned to my account in 8 to 10 days and a $405 credit that I can only spend on their site. This is so far from a fair resolution to illegal and immoral behavior of taking money from my account without me agreeing to the newly proposed terms. I want to make in abundantly clear that this company ripped me off and once I have used the credit that they have held my money captive with, I will do everything in my power to never use their services again. I would give negative stars if that were possible.*** read more

Very disappointed and unsatisfied to say the least beware of any Airbnb's that you get because Airbnb will not cover you. read more

I wrote a bad review for a host Cecilia in Woodbridge New Jersey. She was a terrible host looked like she was high on drugs and had a nasty bathroom and multiple people at the location including herself with one bathroom. AirBNB claimed that my review was taken down because it was against their policy and gave the community little information. I was very clear gave 1 star they only took it down because it was a bad review they want to keep them with 5 stars when they are horrible host. Also was refused a refund by Airbnb. They are horrible. read more

This was so weird that I had to call the realtor to ask if this was a real listing on Airbnb since a sign and lockbox was on the house for sale and so many things went wrong by 10am the next day in Yuma. (Plus 3 doors inside locked not knowing is someone else inside was also creepy) Upon arrival at 9pm after driving in we wanted to turn the hot tub on. The host replied fast around 10pm this was no not a hot tub just a spot for mom and babies. I pointed out that was not what the listing on the site said. After walking around more went to the guest house with the 3rd bathroom and 4 bedroom but it was occupied. No sign saying stay out and the key did work so it was so creepy to walk into someone's space and see tooth brush and robe since we had planned on another couple staying there. The listing prior to now (see photo's on Yelp) implied we would have that bedroom and bathroom in the guest house. That is a very big deal!!! (so no hot tub and guest house) But okay we are here and will make this work. We find the ac up stairs on our own turn it on hoping it will cool down it does not work and I did not know this yet it is 11:30 at night. So it never cools down. I turn it on and off a couple times 2am, 4am nothing. First thing at 5am I text the host explain all this. At this point I want a refund and want to leave. The house has no soap in the bathrooms, no hand towels. The dishwasher was full of dishes when we arrived. They had less then 7 folks and all missed matched like they ran to Goodwill that day to rent the place out since they moved out. The host says talk to Airbnb does not offer a refund and I say fix all this and give me a refund and I will not post a review hoping to fix this now. I'm also hoping the AC just went out and she did not know but the guest house and hot tub need fix on the listing. You made some mistakes just fix them. Then I wait 2 weeks take photo online of listing still the same and now finally I see a change with the listing a couple days ago. I was not charge a 2nd day that we did not stay but was not offered any refund from the host after all of this for the first night. We got a $200 credit to Airbnb that was it! But the worst part had to be when the water to the entire house was shut off. June 1st sometime by 10am the water company turned off the water for an unpaid bill. I got video and screen shots! I tell Airbnb and the host we can not leave no water to shower. Still no full refund so they get into the pool while I spend 2 hours dealing with all this host and airbnb. She is telling us to leave at this point we want to but we want to shower I say pay the bill so we can. The water is turned on about an hour later maybe? We leave the place by 12:30 we had agreed on a late check out already for 12pm but with no water and 2 hours of calls we left at 12:30. Still no refund offered by the host and now she post this review on us. WOW I was so glad this was a short 2 day trip and not 2 weeks. We wanted to check out Yuma and never did and will never go back. I'm shocked by a host not taking an responsibility for a horrible experience people worked hard to save up money to have. My boyfriend and 19 yr old son and girlfriend lost everything in the Lahaina fires in Maui over a year ago and almost died that day and I told her that. To not refund folks who just lost everything says so much about this individual and lack of caring about anyone else but themselves and their bank account. I guess we paid the water bill that month B! I would never recommend this host. As for any oder in the house, it was there when we arrived and I think an AC on over night not working may of added to it. The home owners are smokers the fire pit and property had cig butts and past reviews on this confirmed that. This host is so shady. Airbnb was not much help either with no full refund like I requested over and over again they made us still pay $500 for that night and that is why I will write this review now and post it on Yelp with photo's. I had to wait to see how this played out. How would the host respond and how would Airbnb because that is the most important part of all of this. How they respond effects you later and me! This was my 2nd trip with Airbnb and after looking at Yelp reviews, lawsuits and criminal activity I will ask way more questions and do way more research on a property before paying. Like is the house for sale, are any rooms locked, does the hot tube work, is the guest house really available. They were both no help and I was very unhappy with everything that went wrong. read more

AirBnB does business with shady property management/rental companies like RedAwning (https://www.yelp.com/biz/red-awning-emeryville-2) and Bear Valley Vacation Rentals (https://www.yelp.com/biz/bear-valley-vacation-rentals-bear-valley?osq=Vacation+Rentals). We were overcharged for a unit and neither party was willing to renegotiate the price, which was double what the going rate for the unit was going for. The cleaning fee alone was over $600 for two nights for an unremarkable cabin that was poorly maintained and not particularly clean. Although it may be in their financial interest to do so, AirBnB is culpable for doing business with bad actors like Red Awning. Take your business elsewhere. read more

House located at 6001 Mill Springs Road, Midlothian Virginia. This house should never have been rented. I do not feel safe at all in this house. There are many locked doors with lights on in the room and I keep hearing footsteps above. The house is full of mold and dirty. Not one role of paper towels. Been on the line with airbnb customer complaint for over 20 minutes. It's a joke to them. DON"T EVER STAY AT ANY AIRBNB IN VIRGINIA!!! THEY ARE ALL FULL OF MOLD AND FILTH. I have stayed in at 5 different bnb's here and it has been a NIGHTMARE!!!!!!! read more

Several drama queen owners over several years with loose outlets, entering space unannounced, falsely blaming for "stolen" teabags, owners trying to threaten or bribe for umwarranted perfect scores. Recently I received notification that Airbnb is updating their extenuating circumstances policy. I asked why. I got a complete runaround. The first substantive response took several exchanges, and it was something about the government was making them do it. I asked for the regulatory or statutory language. That went nowhere. Round and round and round, literally. Just requoting their policy change. Finally they did it one last time and then closed the case. I do not trust these people. I think they are quite willing to discriminate. read more

I can't use AirBnB. They won't let me book because I have to get a texted code to confirm my phone number and it won't work on my phone. I spent an hour on the phone with someone trying to do my first booking and was just f**king hell. It said I had made too many attempts and to try back in 24 hours. At the end of this chick trying to help me she kept sayintg, "Now confirm with text." I'd told her like ten times already this didn't work. Apparently AirBnB's tech support gerbils are incapable of working around this. I can't set up an account with them. I can never use AirBnB I guess, which is a shame as I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling in the next twenty years. read more

There is no help from Airbnb. We had guests that refused to leave our home, we had to call the police to get the guests out. They stayed in our home after their reservation was over. It was scary and put my family in danger. Please look at all these reviews. Now a days there are plenty of other options to be a guest or host. Since our incident, which has now been over a month, no one from from Airbnb has contacted us or done anything to support us. Just please beware. Read the fine print of the hundreds of pages of terms and conditions that protect Airbnb, but not us. We are at a huge loss at the moment and Airbnb will not even communicate with us. Keep traveling and hosting just don't use Airbnb. read more

I booked a stay with Airbnb for Aug 14 - Oct 20, 2021, I arrived after dark to the rental on Aug 15. I left immediately the following morning on the 16th, because the place was roach infested, smelled awful and had some unsafe wiring. I contacted Airbnb on the Aug 16th The next day!. Airbnb claims I didn't meet the 24-hour policy, because I was supposed to check in on the 14th and didn't contact them until the 16th, but I checked in on the 15th so I feel I did meet the 24-hr. policy. I was charged $618 for Aug. I then failed to cancel the reservation online so I was charged an additional $585 for Sept. Even though Airbnb and the host knew I had left on the 16th of Aug and had no intention of staying Sept. I contacted the host, who would not respond and I then contacted Airbnb to reverse the charge, but was told because I didn't cancel the Reservation online, I was responsible for the charge. I was under the impression from chatting with Airbnb Support on Aug 16th ( I have the transcripts) the reservation would be cancelled. Ok, my mistake, but an honest mistake. It seems unconscionable to me to be charged by Airbnb for Aug, when I tried to contact them ASAP and then have them tell me it is my problem with the host for being charged for Sept. The host was angry with me because I complained to Airbnb about the condition of the rental, so no wonder she wouldn't respond to me. read more

Airbnb dismisses hosts' concerns. Hosts receive standard phrases such as "rest assured", "don't worry", and "thank you for being Superhost" after which the host gets no help and the case is dismissed. Many existing policies and loopholes encourage guests to hurt listings based on their emotional state, of which the host has no part. The rubric rating is not logical and does not add up to provide an average for the overall rating. Instead, one of the rubrics is called "overall rating" which overrides all other marks. Airbnb has no explanation or rationale (e.g. overall rating, timelines of reviews) to slap a quick suspension on a listing based on a guest's subjective review which greatly depends on their mood at the moment. These issues are affecting the platform creating an ill and bullying atmosphere where guests are allowed to behave the way they want in hosts' homes and for hosts to be their humble servants. read more

Airbnb is the worst website I have ever seen in my life. Booking protection guarantee is a joke and they are not responsible for anything. Airbnb follow unethical and exploitive business practices in that they unashamedly charged me their exorbitant fees TWICE for the same stay. When I had to cancel a stay at one of their erroneous and misleading listings - they called a cramped one room apartment a "Townhouse" - I immediately rebooked another stay (via Airbnb) for the remaining days of our intended stay. While they EVENTUALLY finally refunded me the property charges, they shockingly and unethically did NOT refund me their exorbitant fees (for the place I canceled) meaning they unimaginably and unethically made me pay TWICE for the same stay. When I disputed this with them they of course - arrogantly and disinterestedly - ignored my several requests for them to simply (finally) do the right thing and NOT double-gouge me on their fees. But of course that never happened. read more

DO NOT EVER BUY A GIFT CARD FOR AIR BNB Absolutely horrible unintelligent and deceptive customer service. Beware. I had acouple gift cards but was unable to use on my first booking. They say you can use a gift card on the first booking, but it wont actually allow it, I spent hours on the phone with customer service and they also were unable to do it. You need to have already stayed at an air bnb and have used an alternate form of payment before they allow you use any gift card, or else the system wont process the booking. The system says "unable to process at this time" until finally you make the booking with a credit card and of course they "cant" retroactively apply the gift credit credit. read more

SCAM SCAM SCAM Airbnb, Inc., 888 Brannan St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA this company is a scam. Don't ever buy or purchase an Airbnb from this company ever. I purchased an Airbnb on a Thursday confirmed reservations, and on a Monday. I tried to cancel the reservations due to circumstances beyond my control. They then proceeded to charge me the entire amount and refused to refund all my money. so I disputed the amount with my credit card company and paypal Airbnb then came back with their quote policy and only refunded partially my money and refused the dispute. I placed with my credit card company saying that their cancellation policy for a full refund was only available for 48 hours and that I would pay another $2000 for nothing. This company is a rip off Airbnb is fraudulent and doesn't protect the consumer in any way shape or form pass this on to all your friends DONT EVER USE AIRBNB!??? read more

I am a victim of a scam and Airbnb suspended/deactivated my account without warning. Airbnb suspended me because I work closely with an account that doesn't belong on Airbnb. Please note that I have no idea who this account is. My account was hacked!!! I work by myself, I do not have a Co-host or cleaning crew. I work alone. I quit my job to run my Airbnb account and work for Airbnb. This is completely unfair how poorly Airbnb has treated me this past month. I have been calling almost everyday to get this matter resolved with no success. I have appealed it three times. Airbnb is not trying to help me in this matter. Airbnb are the biggest scammers EVER! I was treated very poorly and to be honest Airbnb discriminates against a lot of people. Airbnb would not tell me who my account was linked to so I can defend myself. Like I said they discriminate!!! No one could ever help me. I will be going to the press and all News channels will be hearing about this. I have over 10,000 followers on social media and I will be posting about my experience with Airbnb. Also, Airbnb cancelled all my future bookings that I had worked so very hard to get for the holidays. I will need to get compensated for that. I will also be reaching out to my lawyer on what can be done about this. Airbnb has scammed me, and treated me like I'm a criminal and to be honest they are racist. read more

Airbnb is a corrupt company. The corruption begins at the top. The CEO, Brian Chesky, is a disturbingly corrupt executive. He, along with his corrupt leadership team, does not care about the hosts who have made him and the others multi millionaires. I encourage all hosts to boycott this company. Stop being the slaves for this corrupt company. read more
