This place is OK but I forget the name of it but there's another Everglades boat airboat place maybe 5 to 10 miles south and by far was the better experience. What you get here is a short airboat ride and then a very short crocodile show. Price was a little bit high in my opinion and I really forget the name of the other place but the other place had way more to do and see so I would suggest to drive 5 to 10 miles south and go to the other park. read more

Our family of four did the 1.5 hour private airboat tour. It was a little more expensive than reserving spaces on a larger airboat/larger group tour, of course, but we had the tour to ourselves. Captain Pete was our tour guide, and he was WONDERFUL! He is friends with Freida and Fred (birds) and Ali the alligator. Pete is a great and genuine man, we could tell. It sprinkled on and off; at one point, it started raining; Pete got out a big umbrella. If a lot of rain is expected, I would bring lite rain jackets, We recommend calling or reserving your adventure online; i don't think it would work to show up and try to buy a ticket. We took the 1.5-hour two-person tour and it was worth the money and our time. Our guide, Bryce, knew the lay of the land--actually the lay of the water--showing us a part of the state and world we weren't familiar with at all. He knew where the gators were and was friendly with the birds. The meeting spot is in front of the Shell station at the southeast corner of US 41 and FL 997. We were there waiting prior to the required fifteen-minute lead time when Bryce called us. We met in the parking lot and he led us to the boat launch a very short drive away. They provide hearing protection, so we didn't need to use our ear plugs. It was educational and a lot of fun. read more

The airboat tour is fantastic. We did the one hour semi private tour and wished it was 90 minutes. Our tour leader was excellent. A few notes: Bring a jacket if it's not summer because the boat goes fast and it's chilly. Drive to the dock rather than taking the van from the gas station where they meet you. This is because they don't return you to the gas station afterwards. And lastly, make sure the van driver waits for you to follow him! Ours did not and the sign to the dock was so small that we missed it. The dock location is in an odd spot. read more

Oh myyy what an absolute BLAST this was! Capt Pete was such a hoot - kept us laughing the whole time and taught us a lot - his love for the nature of the Everglades shines through!! And we saw so many gators too - Capt Pete was like a Gator Whisperer haha! They were running a February special so we booked a private 1 1/2 hour tour as a birthday treat and it was soooo worth it! I really came away feeling like I saw a good bit of the River of Grass and all it's natural glory! During our whizzing and whipping through the little canals in the grass, we made numerous stops to see wildlife and listen to Capt Pete tell us about the nature surrounding us - so fascinating! Did you know those raised notches on a gator's back are actually bones?? I didn't!! Capt Pete even had some of the bones to show us! Booking online with them was easy and secure. We had zero issues. I had even previously emailed them with some questions while I was shopping around for the best tour company and they were very quick to respond, thorough, and friendly! The main reason I went with this company - apart from all the glowing reviews of course lol - is that they are very eco-friendly and concerned with preserving the Everglades as much as possible - they're very careful with their boats and super considerate of all the wildlife - and they don't even have one of those sad, gimmicky "animal attraction" parks like all the others where they make the animals perform - so that sold it for me. Heck they don't even have a store front haha! They have you meet up with the Captain at a Shell gas station nearby - very easy to find so no worries. Then you follow the Captain to the boat launch and off you go! Their "desk" at the Shell station is a tad hard to find - it's a tiny wooden makeshift desk right outside of the door - but it wasn't an issue bc Capt Pete found us right away! He gave us time to use the restroom and get any coffee or drinks/snacks before leaving too, which was nice. From the beginning till we hopped off the land glider, i'ld call it abot but the was more land than water. We saw dozens of alligators in their natural habitat, colorful birds soaring overhead, turtles and gators, sunbathing on logs. Captain Pete was a blast. We saw a few gators, a turtle, and lots of native birds. Pete provides a ton of great info about the Everglades and it's clear he cares about maintaining the amazing resource. I vaguely recall traveling through the area as a kid on our trips to Florida from New England but don't remember ever taking a ride in a fan boat. It's super cool. I highly recommend it. We came in early December and the weather was perfect. Only thing we didn't see was baby gators as Pete explained a recent big tropical storm wiped out the nests. Our guide had been doing it for over 10 years and you can tell he's very passionate about the Everglades and the animals he introduced us to. We met us at the shell gas station. We were told to let our Uber know that he should hang around the area since there was little to no service at the dock, but when we were finished with the tour we had no problems getting an Uber quickly. I booked this tour the same day and had an email confirmation with instructions to arrive 15 mins prior to the Shell Gas station & good thing we did bc we were hungry. There is a Subway inside the gas station & a clear sign of the airboat company. After paying for the Airboat we followed the representative to the Everglades. The car ride was probably less than 5 mins. When we arrived we were immediately taken to the Airboat where we were greeted by Capt. Lo. If you have a young child they will need to wear a life vest. (I have a 4 yr old). The first 15 mins we were riding into the Everglades and then we got to the good part, alligators, birds, and fishes. Capt. Lo was informative and fun. I really had no expectations since we were dealing with species and animals in their natural habitat but we saw more than we anticipated! I highly recommend this tour!! *Fyi - I thought there would be a lot of mosquitoes but it wasn't bad at all. We booked online in advance and everything went smoothly. We not only received a confirmation but received updates when more people joined the boat. We were happy to have reservations because they sold out on the day after Thanksgiving. You have to drive out to 177th street on Hwy 41 but from there they guide you to the launch point which is only about 5 minutes away. Our guide, I think his name was Alex, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and took us to two spots where we found gators. His eagle eye could pick them out in the brush when no one else could see them. Our boat had 10 people which is a good size. What an experience ! This is for sure a must to do if you are visiting Florida. We stayed in Miami and adjusted our schedule so we specifically could check this out. My group and I were dying to see an alligator, but safely of course. It was awesome because it was only 40 minutes away from our air bnb. Not only did we see multiple alligators in their habitat, we got to get up close to a young gator. Captain Hank was the man and was so nice and informative. He led us to safety, showing us how genuine and kind he was to the wildlife around. We loved his vibe and he made our trip super worthwhile. I also loved how he gave us an opportunity to feed the birds live worms ! We chose to do only an hour, but we got to see so much. First of all, I'm not sure why people are complaining about meeting at the Shell station. It made perfect sense to us since there are no restrooms or refreshments for purchase at the boat ramp. I also liked the fact that we could follow the guide to the correct location. After all, you are in the Everglades and places can be hard to locate. Good call on their part! Also, all of the gentlemen that I spoke with were professional and kind. The equipment and boat were in great condition. Captain Willie operated the boat with the utmost care and skill. They provided us with water and Captain Willie was very intent on making sure we were happy and knew what to expect. He was also concerned about our safety, and as such, he made sure that we understood the simple rules so we could have a fun and safe experience. As for the tour itself, it was wonderful. Captain Willie took time to stop the boat and educate us about the surrounding plants and animals. Throughout the tour, there were so many alligators, different types of birds, turtles, fish, etc. I actually learned many things about the Everglades ecosystem that I hadn't learned in the 10-years I've lived in South Florida. As I searched for the top attractions in Miami, this was in the top 10. Everything else sounded boring but this caught my attention! We were set on the $60, 1-hour semi-private tour. You can also opt for longer durations and private tours. BOOKING: Trust me, it's easiest to call them directly and book. I booked online with my credit card, and here's my story. After pressing "submit," the only confirmation I received was "an adventure specialist will send you a confirmation after your info is processed" page. No confirmation number, no instant email, no further instructions, no confidence. This was on a Friday after business hours so I figured someone would contact me first thing Saturday. Concerned that I still hadn't heard back from them by lunchtime Saturday, I called and spoke with a friendly guy named Lee. I'm not sure if he could see my online reservation but the time we requested wasn't available, so we went with the 12pm semi-private tour. He then gave us info on where and when to meet. Now I felt confident. A few hours later, a friendly gal called me to say the 10am tour wasn't available. I told her I already spoke to Lee and that he already changed our time. Then, an email comes through, stating the same thing the gal told me. I replied back with the same info I told her. MEETING POINT: We were to meet at the address listed on their website which is a Shell gas station on the western outskirts of the city, at least 15 minutes prior to tour time. Lee called about an hour before tour time to say where to park and where to find him inside. He then said we'd follow the company van to the launch site, but because we Uber'd it out there, he was nice to make arrangements for our transport. Once inside we made payment. I inquired if he had my card on file via online but he said it wasn't charged due to people not showing up and refunding being a hassle. About 5 minutes prior to tour time we headed to the launch site which was less than 5 minutes away. THE TOUR: The two of us were part of an 8-passenger airboat. Our guide (Willie, who was awesome, BTW) was ready and waiting. We jumped on, given ear muffs and was on our way. We passed through tall grasses and enjoyed the views before stopping over a lily grove for a brief safety briefing and area info. A few moments later we saw two baby gators that came up to the boat. We then headed to the dense, eery mangroves to find "Big Al," a ten-foot long gator. After Willie did a baby gator call and motoring down a few yards, there he was, eyes above water, headed straight for us like a head-on collision. The motor was killed and we floated as Big Al curiously came right up to the boat, giving everyone an up close view as the wind naturally turned us 360°+. Awesome! After getting back on land, Willie assisted us with pics aboard the airboat. TIPS: Use sunscreen. Luckily for us it was overcast the whole time at high noon in June. There were no mosquitos but there are small dragonflies that buzz by. I got a small spraying of Everglade juice as we made a turn but nothing drenching. Riding against the wind made the airboat's fan louder and was the only time I kept the earmuffs on. The Everglades they take you on are part of the wild and is not a park or conservation area. OVERALL: Nice tour and fair pricing. read more
