I recently hosted my daughters communion at Ajax Convention Centre, my initial experience with the sales staff was pleasant and professional and the venue was very nicely decorated and very clean.
The wait staff and the gentleman who oversaw my event were very friendly and accommodating with some room changes, but I felt more wait staff should have been provided. Some guests at my table didn't receive their dish/meal until I was halfway through mine! We had to ask for dishes that people never received/waiting on, and one child never received an appetizer (it was somewhat embarrassing). The food was not bad when it came to the salad and bread basket, but my "Creamy Alfredo" was actually pasta in white water, and my chicken tasted as though it was cooked from frozen, which was disappointing. We were in one of the rooms on the second floor and it was blistering hot in the room!! This was by far the biggest complaint from my guests. Bottom line, the service was slow and unorganized, and the food was sub-par.
The day of the event an Ice storm hit and 29 people (nearly half of my guests) were unable to make it. I asked the gentleman that oversaw my event if they could give me the food for the 29 people that did not make it as I had already prepaid for those plates, he said that it's against their policy due to liability issues...not only did I find this to be a bunch of BS, but also found it to be poor business. I paid for the food, I should be able to take it with me! Customers could easily sign a waiver to release any liability!! I then asked if they could give me some sort of refund (anything would have been great as I was out $1,000.00 at that point. I didn't expect the full refund, but even $200 would have been fantastic) he said I would have to speak with the sales team on Monday.
I emailed my sales representative the morning of the event explaining the situation and was hoping they would be kind enough to give me any kind of break, I didn't hear back from her until Tuesday and only to learn that they would do nothing for me other than waive the minimum $350 bar charge and only charge what was consumed...we consumed $300!! My sister took over the negotiations at this point as I had to leave town for a few days on business, all she received was attitude and the run around. I finally received an email from the GM whom my Sister had been speaking with, she informed me that she spoke to the owner and that no refund would be given as they pre-ordered food, alcohol and assigned staff, and they were prepared for the event regardless of the circumstances. This only made me angrier as I am fully aware that the alcohol would be used for another event and the 29 plates hadn't even been cooked! The wait staff had been reduced and I was left with 2 people that could hardly handle 40 guests. Basically they pocketed my money and will charge someone else for my leftovers/items that were never used but paid for!!
Bottom line, I feel this business has HORRIBLE customer service and care about their profits more than there service and their customers (they are obviously not out to get repeat business). I will never book another event here again. read more
