Deliveroo order: perfect veggie box (a lot!), good salmon box, nice edamame - I recommend!

I called on Monday and booked a table for two for Wednesday…read more Make sure you make a reservation, the restaurant is small only 16 people can dine there, so you HAVE to have a reservation. We ordered sashimi omakase, followed by the roasted duck, tuna with miso sauce, tempura, deep fried salmon, tea, water and house cold sake. All food is simple, yet flavourful, made with so much care that it brings joy to your taste buds. I am a big fan of Japanese cuisine, traveled throughout Japan for a few months, and was looking for a place in Amsterdam to satisfy my sashimi cravings. Total was 170 euro

Very disappointed with the place and the attitude! There is a sign on the door saying 'today only…read moreby reservation'. Well, apparently, it's every day by the reservation only and this crucial piece of information is not stated on the website, on the google maps or in any of the descriptions. After entering a half empty small restaurant and asking to be seated was told that all tables are reserved. There was plenty of space at the 'bar' and on my idea to sit there got a refusal saying 'there are no chairs'. When I came up with a solution to that saying there's a table with 3 chairs with only 2 people having dinner and we can borrow their chair was refused again with another excuse of 'not enough ingredients' as if with the reservation they also take a pre-order for the food...Extremely disappointed!! Was thinking to find a new favorite place for Japanese food as eating out almost every evening but will never go back to the place where they are not welcoming and narrow minded, and instead of finding solutions are finding excuses!! In Japan this would never happen!! Attaching also a reply on the same review I have posted on TripAdvisor

If you've been to their spot in Oud West, you already know the vibe…read more It's the mother restaurant that started the craze, and it still holds the crown for one of the best atmospheres in Amsterdam. The concept is Japanese Finger Food (Izakaya style). Think less "giant bowl of ramen" and more "I want to try seven different things while sipping a highball." * Must-Haves: The salmon tataki is consistently perfect, and their katsu sando is a legitimate mood booster. * The Bar: Their selection of Japanese whiskies and sakes is top-tier. If you're unsure, ask the staff. Whether you're rolling deep with a group of friends or you're in town on a business trip and need a spot where you won't feel awkward sitting solo at the bar, this is it. It's buzzy, dimly lit, and high-energy without being pretentious. It's located in the heart of De Pijp. It's the perfect "anchor" for an evening. You can wander through the Albert Cuypmarkt during the day, grab dinner here, and then hit any of the neighboring bars for a nightcap. It's a popular spot and they don't always take reservations for small groups, so show up a little early or be prepared to grab a drink while you wait.

On our last night in Amsterdam, my wife and I were looking for a break from Heineken and…read morebitterballen and searched for lighter bites in the De Pijp neighborhood, when we stumbled upon this place. What. A. Gem. It wasn't an obvious choice, especially when we arrived as the local street market was breaking down the stalls and cleaning up the street trash outside. But these people know how to take care of you. Everything is made with intention and love. The dishes are made to share and come out as they are prepared, fresh and paced so that you're never overwhelmed by too many plates on your table. It's an intimate experience, with servers who are neither overbearing or far out of reach. The menu is simple and delicious. It has a very nice list of Japanese sake and whisky, and the cocktails are beautiful. We left in a perfect mood, neither full or hungry. The spinach salad was perfectly dressed and the Saikoro beef steak melts in the two sauces that accompany it. I cannot recommend highly enough. Such a nice send off from Amsterdam.
