There is a central fountain surrounded by a short boardwalk along the water and interior perimeter of the shops. The Deckhouse Pub seems oft-recommended here, but it is also one of the only places to eat a full-service meal at the Landing, so if you're staying anywhere nearby, you will likely end up here (probably explaining why they accept reservations). The Deckhouse was adequate / average for local beer and flavor, with two small upper decks of a few tables. Seats outside overlooking the water boost the vibe a bit. Basic Krusty Krab nautical decor inside. Spinnaker's Landing is an okay stop-off on your PEI driving tour. Won't take long (unless you have wee ones, then all bets are off :) ). The Landing seemed to be referred to in all tourist literature as "the" place to go in Summerside, according to island recommendations and research. Because of this, we expected more. To the point where we got there after all the brochure hype and said, "This is it???" So if you go, understand it is merely a little horseshoe of a pit stop if there are no special events going on, and not necessarily a day-long destination if you are trying to cover the island in less time than you'd wish. Spinnaker's Landing gives the feel of a pop-up tourist spot. It is not a historic fishing village, but manufactured-to-look-like-an-old-fishing-village. It's akin to a film set or Disney facade, which is absolutely fine if that's what you like, or you know this fact in advance. It may also be just right a place for older visitors or anyone with difficulty walking long distances -- it gives you a little dose of a few shops with a ramp-accessible boardwalk. But we were a group hungry to experience the best of PEI -- we did not feel this was it. The consensus was if we had skipped this spot altogether, we wouldn't have missed much. So if authenticity is more your style and you are crunched for time, you might skip the anticlimactic Spinnaker's Landing stop and dedicate that time to any one of the plethora of climbable lighthouses, historic buildings, and ragged landscapes awaiting you on beautiful PEI.

My mother and I were driving in the Bouctouche area and came across this beautiful historic…read morebuilding that turned out to be a museum. It was an old Catholic school for girls. When we entered you see a beautiful old wooden staircase. In the room to the right you enter to find handmade crafts and quilts and friendly tour guides to bring you through the house. Each room is filled with interesting artifacts, memorabilia and antique furniture. The tour guides were wonderful and really enjoyed learning of the history there. The most stunning part of the tour was the place where they worship. In true Catholic fashion, it is rich, lavish, stunning and elegant. I also loved going up to the bell tower and ringing the church bells. You also get an amazing view of Bouctouche.

This was my dad's favorite part of the trip. Every time we talk about the trip, he pulls out his…read morepictures to show people. Kenny and Lois were super friendly and very accommodating. They took the six of us, Grandpa included, on their boat and showed us how the lobster trapping works. My dad got suited up in overalls and rubber gloves, and helped haul in lobster traps. We learned how to measure the lobsters, and we learned how to tell a male lobster from a female one. I'd never seen lobsters carrying eggs before, but we saw a few then. It was a nice day and the waves weren't too bad, so no one got seasick. We had the freshest lobster dinner on that boat. We got to choose lobsters we had pulled in from the traps, and for $7/lb, they boiled them right there on the boat while we were still at sea, cracked them for us, and served them with melted butter. Oooohhh. Did you know that fresh lobster tomalley/roe is quite green when fresh? I'd never seen it that green before. Super impressive. It was also the best part, and there was lots of it. This was the most no-frills lobster dinner I've ever had, us eating on styrofoam plates with disposable cutlery, but it was still incredible. We took the leftovers home for breakfast the next day. At $45/person before lobster for this 3 hour excursion, it was totally worth it. I've heard that there are times where Kenny will let his customers fish while the lobster is cooking. We were told fishing season had yet to begin, so we didn't get to do that, but if we had been there just a few weeks later... I'd recommend this one to anyone planning an east coast tour.

The museum was very small and helpfully offered background and sample fossil obtained from the…read morefossil cliffs. The staff hurried us down the cliffs right away because the tide was coming in and if we wanted to get a look we had to go immediately. We did so and managed a good beach walk before getting our feet wet in our rush back. The beach is dangerous when the tide is coming in so it is advisable to heed the staff's warnings. The beach has many samples of fossils just lying on the ground. You're not able to take away any samples but you can take away your photographs. The cliffs record in rock form many of the different geological eras as you walk down the path. It's lovely to see the plants, animal tracks, animal fossils, and evidence of geological events.
