Akira is my go to store when I'm looking for clothing that's "different" or stands out. I have to travel 2 hours to visit the closet store and it's worth it every time. Great store! I came back after visiting last time and found out they do a birthday special where you get a personal stylist to help you shop for 30-60 minutes. Such a fun perk and definitely made the birthday shopping experience more special. They also gave me a little crown and champagne, which was a nice touch! I was given a gift card for Akira and finally got to use it. I was shopping for a simple concert outfit. I personally think the way the store is organized, is very loud and overstimulated. I opted to keep in my AirPods because sometimes the music gets my heart racing like it in a rave. The clothes itself is cute, but only if you're looking for more statement pieces. I wanted a pair of flair jeans that wasn't too much and a shirt to match and costume jewelry. Luckily I was assisted by the lovely UA who helped me navigate the store, find what I needed and I definitely dint regret trying on things before I buy. This was online, their website. Abysmal! Calimed to be 100% cotton they definitely add elastane without even properly labeling! Even in the email they said they "add stretch" it's easy to google cotton doesn't have stretch innately. Go do they think they are fooling. I make clothing so I'm a very sure of this matter. Very misleading! :( Many defects on the pants as well, especially around the pockets. Various loose and seemingly cut white threads poking out further support the apparent cheapness of the pants. The saturation of rhe color is also terrible, way flat compared to the stock images provided. Please dont but from this company. I tried to reach out to customer support and they insist that I, living in a rural area, need ro drive all the ay to personally return them. I showed the defects and all, various angles, I was definitely expecting to just be refunded, they are truly that bad. :( very sad about my purchase. read more

Ciara was extremely helpful today. She styled me and literally picked out my outfit from head to toe and even carefully selected jewelry to accompany it. I am not good with fashion at all so it was great and very kind of her to really take her time and give great fashion advice. She went above and beyond. She has made Akira more of an experience than anything else and that's the only reason I'd be back. Let me start of by first saying I usually never review clothing stores, I try to stick to food. However, I couldn't let the day past without reviewing this gem! I'm from and live in VA, so I have shopped online at Akira and they have cute stuff that's good quality. I didn't realize they had a store front in Chicago, so when I saw it I had to go! Also, I came to the mall just for one pair of jeans -- let's remember that lol. The staff at the store, especially Kelsey and Grace, we're FANTASTIC. My customer experience was phenomenal. Kelsea helped me pick out some cute fits, got me a fitting room without me having to ask, and consistently checked on me -- he was great. Grace was super sweet and professional as well. She rung me up very quickly, considering the long line. Needless to say, I left Akira with wayyyyy more than one pair of jeans lol. I can definitely say this is one the best experiences I've had shopping for clothes. Not sure how I'll fit all these clothes in my suitcase though. read more

There's always something unique to find. Definitely where I had liked going to find an outfit for a concert. However the service is a hit or miss. Some of the workers are nice, and some should be retrained. After looking throughout the store one of the workers came up to me with a heavy attitude that implied either buy something or get out. This was a good find for us, across from the hotel, inside the mall on a rainy day. Every other store was something familiar but Detroit doesn't have Akira and everything in her was trend perfect for my 17 year old daughter. Nothing was really a great price for the quality but she found a lot of cute things for back to school. (I think she tried on 40 things and we bought 5) The staff here are young and hip and relatable for her and very, very helpful back near the dressing rooms. (And comfortable sofas for parents to wait!) I actually ended up buying myself a jacket. I am disabled and rely on my mobility scooter. The store is so crammed and the walking space is so small that racks got moved a few inches while I was trying to maneuver through the store. Someone was coming behind me moving the racks back into place. It's very ADA unfriendly and I wonder what ADA would think of this. I too am a paying customer! read more

Been here a few times throughout the years and always had a good time. Everyone is always so attentive and HONEST! You can't go wrong with that. Found my New Years dress just to add. They are pretty much cool with just browsing but no way is that possible since you can't help but to find something to buy. It's many locations and haven't been to them all but this one is my go to. I never feel rushed or pushed to buy something I don't like. The staff actually helps you find a FULL OUTFIT, shoes and all. I find this store to be very hit or miss. Sometimes I find like 10 things I love and CHEAP! Other times, I find nothing or its pricey. Overall, its worth a look. They have everything, shoes, pants, skirts, dresses, jewels, etc. The staff is generally really helpful and nice. Sometimes a little over the top but if you are by yourself, their keen eye for fashion might just help you out. The quality isnt fantastic, but you are also not paying for well made products. This super trendy/edgy clothing store in down town Chicago is full of BS. There were a ton of employees on the floor and even though I was in there for 15 minutes, no one talked to me. They even asked at the counter who I was helped by so obviously it matters. Some of the styles are pretty and fun but this store is very expensive and not worth the snubbing. I've always passed it or seen it, and I walked into the shoe store on state st, but I always assumed it was way out of my price range, which it sort of is... considering I'm a poor college student XD. I went this past weekend. I had no intentions of really buying anything.. just browsing. The salespeople were super duper friendly and hilarious. They were very very helpful and picked out stuff for me to try on. This was a pretty bad idea.. since i pretty much felt like i had to buy something.. not because they're forceful.. but because it looked sooooo gooooooood. The akira people are amazing at their jobs, oh man.. my college wallet burned a hole this weekend. Sadly, I gave in.. unfortunately there are no returns, only store credit within 14 days... but I love my stuff.. I dont think I would return it. Got a fantastic cream jacket that I've gotten compliments on already, a nice pretty simple black dress, and a couple accessories. Great customer service! i was greeted by most if not all their employees there. The male employees are soooooo cute! I was looking around and was approached by 3 employees asking if I was looking for anything in particular. After telling them I was looking for a black peplum top, they not only found all different varieties of that kind, they also offered different fits to go with the top. Talk about personal stylists. Heyyyyyyy. It is a great atmosphere when you walk in. The clothes ranges from $-$$$ but the quality is up a notch from Forever 21. I'd definitely shop here again. Akira is a great Chicago "boutique" that has really grown. I both love and hate that they only stock a limited number of each item...I don't have to worry about everyone having the same dress as me, but if I miss out on an item there is no restocking! The employees are willing to check the other locations for styles and sizes for you though, if they are out of what you want. Went in the Friday before Christmas to find an outfit for NYE. I was greeted initially by security upon walking in but it took about 15-20 before a stylist offered to help me. I was finally greeted by Kaci (sp?) who offered to start a fitting room for me with the three dresses I had already picked out. The experience overall started a little iffy and it took me a couple laps around the store to find a few dresses I liked but when I started working with Kaci the experience improved exponentially. She asked what I was shopping for, where I was going, and what kind of dress I was looking for. I already had a somewhat loose plan of what I wanted and she understood me immediately. She also asked what colors I was looking for and what to avoid. As I tried some different outfits on, she brought along a few more that I wouldn't have picked out myself, but looked absolutely stunning! She suggested colors that would look great on me as well as dresses that would accentuate my figure. I loved how she understood me right away and was able to run with my suggestions. I ended up getting a silky rose gold wrap dress, paired with a white shaggy faux fur jacket. Can't wait for NYE! I told Kaci that I've never tried the faux fur look before and she even suggested ways I could dress it down to look more casual. Overall, I love shopping at Akira for NYE and other special events. This one at particularly at Block 37 is great not only because of the diverse clothing selection and sizes (shout out to us curvy girls), but also because of the attentiveness of the stylists and the exciting hyped atmosphere in the dressing room as people slowly but surely find the perfect outfit they may not have thought of, but absolutely love. The key is being open and honest with your stylist about what you like and don't like, but also putting a little trust in them and trying on something you may not have done before! I WAS a frequent akira shopper until I tried on a dress and loved it, told the sales consultant I wanted to buy it and somehow it was misplaced in the time it took me to get to the register and was confused with another dress. I said I live nearby so I could come return it easily if anything, right? They agreed. So I bought the dress seeing as I already waited about 15 mins just to reach to cashier, just to have her need to make a new ticket, while talking about her break and laughing with co workers, completely disregarding concern over getting me the right dress in any sense of urgency what so ever. Like-sorry to bother you by shopping at your store... ? Got home to realize it was an entirely different dress, one I never even tried on..So I go straight back (within 30 mins or so) to get the right dress and they say it damaged. The cashier than said oh you know what? No, it's fine. I go to look at it with thread hanging from a seam and I ask is it going to rip if I cut that? And she said I don't know. I said ok, if it rips can I return it? She says no, they only accept things with tags on. So I ask for my money back and she can only offer store credit even though 30 mins earlier when I was purchasing the dress...she told me I could come back and return it. It's not my fault the dress was ripping due to lack of quality. I ask for manager and she is twice as rude and says my only options are store credit or purchase the already damaged dress. She also stated the dress was only deemed damaged after I tried it on, implying I damaged it and even went on to say "you were the one with it in the fitting room so I don't know what you did..." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I was seriously shocked and felt victim of a scheme. I will never shop akira again not based on their return policy but based on their absolutely, insanely disrespectful, in genuine business practices and lack of customer service. Never. Ever. Again. They were not offering it in the store so she gave me special number to call and see if they still had any. They had any left. I will continue coming back to this Akira location. I was struggling to find the perfect outfit for a work event last week. After wandering around different clothing stores in Chicago such as H&M, The Rack, Macy's... I was feeling overwhelmed and wanted to cry. As soon as I walked into Akira a sales woman, Mallory, asked me if I needed help with anything and I desperately said yes. I had picked out 1 dress I liked and she took it from there. She picked out a few wonderful outfits for me to try on based on my style and picked out accessories to go along with them. I spent over an hour playing dress up and together, we picked out the perfect outfit. This location is really NEAT and SPACIOUS in contrast to the Water Tower locations. The staff was friendly and helpful. Someone acknowledged me two minutes in the store. Regarding the clothes, they are sexy and trendy but construction in many dresses is not so refined. But I think it's worth a try to find a dress there that is fun and sexy because they have a great selection of dresses. read more

I drop in during lunch and leave with a complete outfit plus accessories, without breaking the bank. The regular prices are affordable and the sale prices are a steal!! I came into Akira today to find some outfits for an upcoming vacation. Caleb was so friendly! He immediately took interest in why I was there, what I was looking for, & began helping me! He started a fitting room for me & was always back to grab whatever items I picked out to add to my fitting room (it was awesome, I was never holding more than two items before he came over to grab them!). This Akira (the one in Block 37) is always SO organized & has the cutest stuff. I live out in the southwest suburbs, where there is an Akira near me, but I make sure to stop at this location because they have the best items, staff, & aesthetic. Caleb was outstanding. He was around enough to help me, but not too on top of me like how other stylists can be at times. It was like shopping with a friend. When I went into the fitting room to try everything on, I was amazed at the items he pulled for me. I loved everything he pulled; it was exactly my style (& that says a lot because I can be picky at times).
