I had 2 cataracts removed a week apart in June 2025. There is not one thing negative to say about this whole experience. Dr. Ackler is so professional and experienced I trusted her and her staff completely. Her office is so quaint and comfortable, the staff is great, I felt completely taken care of throughout. The surgical center is comfortable (but cold! temp that is). The nurses and staff answer all your questions. And it doesn't hurt at all. You can't go wrong choosing Dr. Akler. Amazing! I've been wearing glasses and contacts(-5.5 and -7.0) since I was 5 years old, I'm 42 now. I had LASIK with Dr. Akler two days ago and I can see just like I'm wearing contacts. It's awesome! Dr. Akler says my vision will further improve which is crazy for me to think about. Dr. Akler, Barbara, and their whole staff are very thorough with their consultation. They did tests the "commercial LASIK" places didn't do when I went there for a consult. The surgery was the weirdest thing you can do, but I would do it again hands down x 1000000. The surgery itself was pain-free. Dr. Akler talks you through the whole surgery while she's doing it. I did have some pain for the first 2 hours when I got home, but it went away and hasn't been back. I've had no complications and I attribute that to a great consultation (ensuring I'm a good candidate), following the pre-op instructions, and the skills and knowledge of Dr. Akler. It's mind-blowing to be able to see this well without my contacts. If you're looking to get rid of glasses and contacts, look no further than Akler Eye Care. I'm so happy I did not get my lasik done back in Vegas while I was living there. I went to Lasik Eye Institute back in 2016 I believe. The guy who checked my eyes was so rude and mean. He made me feel really insecure about my eyes because I had smaller eyes than most people. (ps I'm Asian lol) he kept yelling at me telling me to open my eyes bigger and I was trying my best. He gave my hopes up saying I'm most likely will be a candidate for lasik, then doctor comes in and tell me I wasn't. And that I should look into PRK. The bad experience made me give up on lasik. Wearing mask and glasses can get a bit annoying. And my glasses kept sliding down my face causing my ears to hurt. Plus I would like to wear my eyeliner more often without contacts. My prescription was really bad it was a -7. My cousin recommended his place and I trust his opinion. So I made my consultation! (The consultation and lasik surgery is at two different location. Consultation is in Dearborn.) Make sure you have someone to drive you, once you arrive only you can come in, but make sure to call ahead of time. Everyone was so nice. Barb examined my eyes, also she dilated my eyes. Which lasted for a whole day, that is why you need a driver. She didn't make me feel insecure about my eyes! She just kept telling me I'm doing a great job. Barb is also the one who calls you the Friday before your lasik appt to give you the time of the arrival, I believe the surgery day is every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Thank you Barb for your patience and kindness, it really goes a long way. Then Dr.Akler came to examine my eye, oh by the way I DID NOT NEED PRK. I got approved as a candidate for lasik. Dr.Akler is so kind. The whole staff is Is amazing! I made my appointment for my lasik for October 20, 2021! (Today is the day after!! And I already can see and writing this review!) Okay so come the Friday before my lasik date, Barb called me, she let me know my appointment time, and send in my prescription eyedrop a to my pharmacist. She gave my direction for the eye drops and to start my artificial tear eyedrops if I haven't already. On the day of lasik, which is located in Fraser. Crystal called me in to examine my eyes, another lady came and gave me to Valium I believe that's what it's called, which is to help calm my nerves which boy did that work! I was taken to a massage chair to relax!! A massage chair!! I had taken my glasses off so from there everything was a blur. But I would love to thank DR. Akler and her team! Best team and I hope you guys stick together and grow the team! Okay so then they came and got me from the massage chair, took me to the surgery room laid me down. Dr. Akler and her team was just chit chatting and that already made me forget about my fear plus that Valium. But she also told me all the steps and when I was going to feel pressure and what she was going to do and what I should do. It was easy peasy and fast!! I really just love how great the team was and how chill they were with each other. After the surgery was down they took me into a room and Dr.Akler examined my eyes to make sure the flap was good, then they sent me home with sleeping goggles and sunglasses. When I came home my eyes did aches a lot but once I went to sleep and woke up it was gone. I kept my eyes closed the whole day and opened them this morning and it's just a miracle and amazing that I can see. Went to my post op I have 20/15 vision! And everything seems to be great. I come back next month to make sure everything is good. I just cannot thank my cousin enough for recommending this place to me. Thank you Dr.Akler and ALL of her staffs! You all make a great team, I did not feel scared or nervous at all, because I do have social anxiety, but everyone made me feel comfortable. I rate Dr. Akler five stars. I rate Barbara and the organization of Dr. Akler's staff three stars. I would 100% recommend LASIK and Dr. Akler to people who are considering it. Dr. Akler is great at her job. She is professional and the surgery went very smoothly. However, for being such a well known ophthalmologist, Dr. Akler's administration should be more organized. FOR PEOPLE CONSIDERING LASIK: Ask A LOT of questions!!!! There are questions I wish I asked before my consultation that the office did not tell me until last minute. I would make sure to ask them when you should stop wearing eye makeup. They didn't tell me so I stopped wearing eye makeup a week before the procedure. You also need eye drops (4 times a day) and to scrub your eye wish a washcloth and baby shampoo (2 times a day) 5 days before the surgery. Five days before the procedure Barbara called me in the early afternoon (2pm) to say that I had to start putting drops in my eye 4 times a day 5 days before the procedure. This means that they excepted me to run out to a drug store ASAP, buy these drops, and start putting them in my eyes. Why wouldn't they have called me before this period? *******PLEASE NOTE: The drops were $28 for a box of 60. You need to put these drops in your eyes 4 times a day 5 days before the procedure and a month after. That's about 35 days so 140 drops! You need more than two boxes!! So tack on another $84 (+$33 for the drops they give you after surgery) to your cost! ******** You should ask if you have to pay before the surgery or if you can pay the day of. I had to make another trip to their office and take time off of work to do this. ASK where the surgery is actually being done at. My 10 minute drive to their office in Dearborn turned into a 50 minute drive to where the actual surgery was taking place. They did not tell me this during the consultation. A week before the LASIK procedure, the office called me to tell me that they lost paperwork and I would have to come in to re-do some tests. I had to talk to my boss and colleagues to figure out a time I could take off work and come in. They left me a voicemail an hour later saying that they found the paperwork..... I rarely check my voicemail but I'm really glad I did that day. My advice to you if that if you are going through Dr. Akler, make sure you are on top of things. Ask a lot of questions and buy these drops ( + the baby shampoo scrub) before hand. I don't know how they are so disorganized with so many good reviews. I also don't know how I am the first one to mention this? I hope that Dr. Akler and her administrator reads this and my review helps to inform people considering LASIK. During my one week post-opp, my vision was 20/25. During my one month post-opp, my vision was 20/15. Hoping it stays this way! I am happy! read more

I highly recommend Dr. Akler and Akler eye center!! I am very pleased with my lasik surgery. My surgery was quick, painless, and my recovery went well. I was back to work the following day, and back to swimming and dirt biking within a few weeks. My vision is unbelievable. Its like replacing your old tube TV with a new high definition plasma screen. I love not needing to wear glasses or having to deal with contact lenses anymore. If you have any interest, I would set up an appointment and see if you are a candidate. I should have done this 10 years ago... I did my research on other places as well. I went with Dr. Akler because she performs all of the surgeries herself and has a reputation to hold. Granted, the odds of problems are rare, I felt comfortable and confident that if I did have imperfections or problems that she would take the time to make everything right. Thankfully, everything went very well. Pricing seemed competitive. Cheaper than some doctors, slightly more expensive than big company eye centers. I would also like to add that I was willing to pay for the more expensive ilasik. Doc explained that my eye shape/thickness was great for the less expensive microkeratome lasik (laser scan custom view) . This review has been a long time coming as I wrote a review about another experience I had at another clinic years ago pursuing a doctor to do my Lasik. To this day I get messaged asking what doctor did you end up seeing since I did not go with that particular doctor. I do hope to help those by posting this review and referring anyone looking to Dr. Akler as she is amazing. When you encounter her and her team they are not pushy and really just want to explain your options and what is best for you. At the time I went granted that was over 5 years ago the pricing was very reasonable and she gave me the lowest amount for the procedure out of all the doctors I saw and she was the best of them all! As far as results I was initially 20/15 but about a year or so after I was 20/20 but I have remained 20/20 since then and remember this is over 5 years. I can't even remember what its like to have glasses and I wore them for almost 2 decades prior to getting lasik. Getting the procedure was the best decision I ever made and I have and will continue to tell anyone wondering just go see Dr. Akler!!!! read more

I'm SO happy I went to Dr. Akler. The whole process was seamless, from her friendly staff to the actual procedure. I was at a -3.25 with astigmatism in my left eye and -2.75 in my right. I recently got LASIK from Dr. Akler and am amazed at the results and the overall experience! The consultation was easy and very informative. The staff is very friendly and put me at ease about the procedure, answering all the questions I had. The procedure itself felt like it only took about ten minutes. Dr Akler and her staff talked to me the entire time, which helped me relax. Afterwards I could immediately see better. I slept for a few hours when I got home and when I woke up I could see almost perfectly, it seemed like I had contacts in. My quality of life has improved significantly thanks to the incredible team at Akler Eye Center. I had the all-laser LASIK done in April and am thrilled to have 20/20 vision. I was initially quite nervous and hesitant about the idea of someone operating on my eyeballs, but my free consultation and exam at the Dearborn office put my nerves completely to rest. Michelle and her staff gave me all the information I wanted and more, and didn't try to upsell or pressure me on anything. The surgery took place at an outpatient center in Fraser and I was in and out in less than an hour, with the surgery taking about 30 seconds an eye (no pain, just a little pressure and I could barely see a thing). I went back to Dearborn for my one-day post-op exam and already had 20/20 vision. Amazing! There are three different LASIK options all at different price points; a standard procedure, a custom procedure that uses a blade, and a custom procedure that uses all lasers. I went with the custom all-laser and it was well worth the price. After years of hesitation, I decided to have LASIK surgery. Dr. Michelle Akler and her entire staff were very friendly and professional. What I really liked was that she did not hold back and spoke very frankly about the procedure and the results I should expect. Her no BS approach was very refreshing and made me feel very confident that I made the right decision. I opted for the Custom View LASIK. The procedure itself went very smooth and by that evening, I felt good enough to go out to dinner. It's been a little over one month and everything continues to improve, the night time halos have almost entirely diminished, just as she said they would. A nice thing about her price structure is that she doesn't charge you upfront for the mostly needless future touchups. She says that so few patients need to have it done that it did not make sense to charge for it in advance. Needless to say, her prices are the best around. My sister and I did lots of research before choosing Dr. Akler for Lasik, and it was WELL worth it. From the friendly staff who are always available, to giving you appointments that are convenient for you, to the pricing and options for Lasik- I would absolutely recommend! The surgery center is a little far from the office, but I was in and out in the 2 hour window they told me. I waited a few weeks after having Custom Vue LASIK procedure to share my experience with Yelpians. Setting up my initial evaluation appointment was very convenient, I had a limited few days and times available and they were able to fit me in within my schedule. I was taken back on time, had a very knowledgeable assistant, Barb she explained each test very well and answered all my crazy questions with confidence. Once Barb's tests were complete, I was handed off to Dr. Michelle Akler, whom reviewed my results and discussed my options. I had a few concerns about a driving trip planned for within the week after, once again Dr. Akler gave her opinion and left the decision up to me, but she always made sure I understood what was normal and what can occur. I scheduled the procedure four days after my evaluation, I did the regiment of cleaning my eye lids as Barb recommended, the procedure is done in Fraser, MI at a eye surgery building. Once again, I was called back on time, the assistant measured my dilation several times to program the Custom Vue. Soon after I was prepped for the procedure, walked in to the room with the LASIK machine, and within the hour I was walking out to the car with an eye mask and dark glasses which are provided. I followed the recommendation of going home and sleeping. The feeling I had was like a dry dirty hard contact lens. I woke up the next morning, went to my follow up visit at Dr Akler office, vision was tested, one eye 20/15 the other 20/20 and 20/20 combined. I am due to come back next week to find out if I need an enhancement procedure, which if I need it I know it will be an extra reasonable fee. I like that Dr. Akler does not over charge everyone for guaranteed one year enhancements, I'd rather pay for it if I need it. I was informed that due to my age I might need reading glasses, and so far I have avoided reading glasses, but it has been blurry reading up close, so I might give in. I drove overnight for 8 hours one week after the procedure and never felt unsafe. I had some haze around lights that is slowly reducing, I knew this and expected it. I continue to put lubrication eye drops in at least four times a day, my dry eye is not bad, actually getting better. I have not been to a place with as much professionalism as Dr. Akler's office has shown in a long time. The entire experience was exceptional. The initial screening was very thorough and Dr. Akler went through all the different options that were available, and recommended the best option for my eyes. She was very matter-of-fact, and didn't try to sell me the most expensive procedure that was available. When the time came for the actual procedure to happen, her and her team were very pleasant and *very* accommodating. They even offered a blanket for me in case I wanted to be more comfortable. The waiting was by far the most time consuming part of the entire procedure. When it was finally my turn, I was in and out in about 10 minutes and that was it. They give you a low dose of oral sedative and it helped a lot to calm any nerves I would have had. They even had enjoyable music playing in the background while I was getting my eyes done!
