Without a doubt, Silver Eagle was the best discovery of the day. Definitely better than the Oktoberfest itself, but that's another story. Like so many antique shops; it's packed from floor to ceiling, musty-smelling, and filled with little nooks and crannies that house the most interesting things. There are several rooms, and we easily got lost for a couple of hours looking at all the cool, old treasures. They have a huge collection of local memorabilia from Akron and the surrounding areas. There are also lots of old postcards, appliance ads from the 30s - 60s (hello, Mad Men!), and LIFE magazines which were really fun to read! My favourite discovery was all of the old photographs -- they were really, really lovely. The owner seemed a little crochety, but he kept to himself. I found so many cool things in here that I wanted, but didn't have any cash on me -- I'm definitely going to have to come back.

If you collect bottles this place is your holy grail. The owner was once a huge bottle collector and knows a lot about Akron's dairy history. I love a vintage store with an owner full of knowledge. There's a pretty solid vintage appliance collection, baseball memorabilia, civil war relics, native american arrowheads, art, costume jewelry, old photographs, barn tools, antique metal toys, and even furniture (good luck getting it out). The shopkeepers are super friendly and include a black cat that is so chill and hangs around the shop unbothered while you hunt for finds. There is a good box-full of postcards, which is my primary target in antique stores, along with stationery in general - that includes some old fountain pens. Posters, advertisements, viewfinder cards. There's a lot of furniture set-up throughout. Old books and toys. A Rock-Ola Cafe jukebox. One of the shopkeepers has a keen interest in plants and builds his own terrariums which are also on display throughout the store. From outside, I won't lie, the place looks a tad unapproachable. But rest assured, once inside you will be pleasantly surprised. Prices seem a bit on the high side, although for the postcards they were just to my liking. At least one owner seemed willing to haggle a bit and offer bulk deals. He mentioned future plans for having a stall style set-up with vendor booths in the back part of the building. It's less an antique mall, and more of a gathering space for the elderly vendors and employees to converse very loudly (likely hard of hearing) about who died recently, whose children no longer visit or speak to them, and who looks older than their age due to their drinking problem. Unbearably hot on my first visit. Uncomfortably warm on my second. On both occasions, vendors/employees made it virtually impossible to browse quietly and leisurely. Do not visit if you are easily susceptible to headaches, as you will absolutely leave with one. The place is cramped. You're always either in someone's way, or finding someone in yours. Some booths are difficult enough to even step into, much less turn around, or to set anything down to make use of your hands. Much of the inventory is drastically overpriced, non-negotiable, and obviously unsold for some time. There's no shortage of antique stores around the Canton area, with friendlier staff and friendlier prices. Save yourself the trip, and skip this one.
