The visitor center is bright, nostalgic, and full of fun displays celebrating so many classic candies. My husband was definitely in his element. We left with Dum Dums, Bit-O-Honey, Peanut Bunnies, candy wafers... and apparently two T-shirts! The sneak! I only realized the second shirt made it into our bag when I looked at the receipt later. The staff was friendly, everything was clean and well organized, and there were plenty of unique gifts and candy you don't always find in stores. Even if you're not a huge candy person, it's a fun place to visit for the nostalgia and the history. If you're looking for a unique day trip in northwest Ohio, I definitely recommend stopping at Spangler Candy World. We had a great time and would happily visit again.

We looked at some of the displays on their history while waiting to see if a worker would show up so we could watch the factory tour movie. Eventually a very friendly worker appeared from the back and we bought two tickets ($3 each but it should be free) for the 15 minute movie. The 10 mins of the movie that actually showed the production was very good and the pumped in aromas were a fun touch. The rest of the movie was goofy and for the kids. We didn't play any of their video games which were geared to kids. That is their main audience afterall. We did purchase a few bags of goodies but none of their famed dum dums. Barely worth the detour...

The ice cream flight was definitely the way to go, especially since they had a temporary $5 Friday special, which made it even more worth it. It was the perfect way to try a variety of flavors. I also loved how they highlight their top 10 flavors with stars on the menu board, which made choosing a little easier. My favorite was the chocolate raspberry ice cream. The chocolate tasted homemade and paired perfectly with the raspberry, it was easily the standout for me.

I also squealed in delight that they carry Peelerz (IYKYK!!). I also ended up trying their gelato, which is from Iorio Gelato. I was informed that they're local and used to have a storefront. It was....pretty bad unfortunately. It was my first gelato in states after our trip to Italy and the texture (icy) and flavor (did not taste like pistachio) unfortunately were completely wrong, so I don't recommend trying the pistachio gelato at this time. We actually didn't go for candy, we were going to use the front of porch for family photos. Pat, the owner has a beautifully decorated porch and I couldn't think of a better place than in front of the beautifully lit snowman for our pictures. When we arrived it was still open. Not only did she not mind, but she invited us inside for photos by the fire. Gorgeous! You don't get service like this these days. So of course we HAD to buy some retro candy as well as some delicious chocolate made by a family Pat specifically orders from. I was able to get some stocking stuffers, orange slices for my grandfather, a treat for my friends son, my daughter, and myself as well all for under 15$.
