My husband and I went to Villa Crespi in May, 2024. We have been to many Michelin three star…read morerestaurants and had an all encompassing, fantastic experience. We were seated in a beautifully decorated which was completely silent. There wasn't any friendly chatter with the servers. It was a very " serious" , without joy experience. I was served a tuna dish that didn't have any flavor. I pointed it out to the server and he said, "I understand" and nothing was done. I would not go back, there are too many other exceptional options.

While the hotel itself is undeniably beautiful, our experience unfortunately did not match the…read moresurroundings, nor did it align with the overwhelmingly positive reviews we had read on Google and TripAdvisor. Our dining experience in particular fell significantly short of expectations--especially considering the three Michelin star rating. I have dined at many Michelin-starred restaurants, including many with three stars, and unfortunately, this was well below even one-star standards in terms of both cuisine and service. For context, in the week prior to our visit, we dined at two different two-Michelin-starred restaurants, both of which provided far superior culinary experiences. Below is a summary of the issues we encountered: * Wine pairing: Poorly matched and inadequately explained. The sommelier's descriptions were difficult to hear, and the selections seemed obscure and mismatched to the dishes (e.g., a Nebbiolo-style red with fish). The pairing did not represent good value and gave the impression of cost-cutting rather than quality. * Lack of flexibility: We were told the wine pairing could not be removed from the package despite my partner being unwell and not wanting to drink alcohol. This was a disappointing and rigid approach in the circumstances. * Menu inflexibility: Requests for alternative dishes, despite the kitchen clearly having the necessary ingredients (e.g. beef rather than lamb), were declined without explanation. * Dismissive communication: Staff made confusing remarks, such as referencing an inability to send frogs' legs to our room--despite no such request ever having being made. * Basic service failures: Salt and pepper were repeatedly removed from our table, requiring us to request them multiple times. Staff also made multiple attempts to clear unfinished wine glasses. * Unacknowledged departure: My partner left mid-meal due to illness and dissatisfaction. It would have been appropriate and appreciated had some gesture at least been made in respect of this. * When I asked for one more of the small Petit fours croissants a few minutes after they were brought out, I was told the kitchen was closed. These are clearly pre-prepared items, so this response felt unnecessarily inflexible. I also pointed out that my partner's petit fours (included in her dinnner) had not been served, but was again told the kitchen was closed, with no further explanation provided or resolution offered. Altogether, the experience felt frustrating and at times petty. This was surprising and disappointing given the cost. For €2,500 for dinner and overnight accommodation, we expected a refined and memorable experience. Unfortunately, this was not delivered. The service was inflexible, inattentive, and lacking in the generosity and professionalism one expects at a three Michelin star venue. The hotel side of our stay was somewhat better. Overall staff were professional and helpful, although at 1,500 euros per night, one would expect that. However, there were concerning lapses. There appeared to be no "Do Not Disturb" sign in the room, and as a result, a cleaner entered without knocking while my partner was still asleep. Even if it was close to check-out time, we had not yet left, and this lack of basic courtesy and privacy was unacceptable. It is not appropriate to walk in without knocking. We could easily have been in a private or vulnerable situation.

If you're reading about an airport hotel, you are probably in some sort of crisis already (like we…read morewere: two flight cancelations and a pending overnight in MXP). So I'll keep this short and simple: the Sheraton is a good comfortable option at MXP but prices in their food and beverage services are very high. The hotel is large and had availability, which when you're scrambling at their airport for is what matters most. Room rate was reasonable for an airport property and the rooms were comfortable. The location directly connects to the terminal so you never have to go outside and makes it easy to get back. Breakfast the next morning was a solid spread with plenty of options. If you don't have it included in your rate it is 27 euro a person. Not the cheapest breakfast but for a buffet with multiple options it's OK. My only dislike was their automatic espresso machines made horrible espresso. Order from the service staff instead and have it crafted by a barista. I also had time to burn during the day, so I tried the spa. That was a highlight. The 80 minute massage was great and the relaxation spaces were worth it. Only downside here was that the spa runs à la carte, so on top of 180 euro for my 80 minute massage I paid an extra 10 euro just to use the sauna and steam room. In my opinion, that should not be a separate charge at that price if I'm already paying for a service (which was not cheep). Biggest downside: Everything outside the room rate felt aggressively overpriced. Water in their restaurant was seven euro a bottle. We ate at a Michelin starred restaurant in Milan earlier in the trip and paid six euro for the same thing. The lunch menu had similar moments. Entrees outside of "pizza" cost you between 30-40 euro. Four stars. It did its job when we needed it. Just know it's costly for the extras on site.

(Let's be real: it's a valid concern here. As it was, we had to run between tracks at Milano Centrale to catch our regional connection, and just barely made it before the doors closed and it took off.) My chief complaint about this hotel is the lack of clear directions on how one finds the entrance. And look, it may have been sheer exhaustion or our vacation brains leading us to get lost - for several minutes - once we arrived, but I couldn't find anything on the airport's site, Marriott's site, or the map to pinpoint where, exactly, one entered the hotel. (For those curious, if you're taking the train in, make a left before you hit the big glass tunnel, you can't miss the doors and the sign. My husband mis-understood the instructions and led us on a merry (but not really "merry") chase through the car rental area before realizing we'd done a big ole donut and that we'd need help. Americans, amirite?!) The staff was friendly and helpful, which I've come to expect from Marriott employees the world over. The lobby was big and beautiful, and felt calm and welcoming - something I'm absolutely certain was planned because travel can be so stressful. My next observation is about the size of the hotel. It's not a complaint, more of a "whoo, didn't expect *that*!" because our room was up, over, sideways, into, out of, above and under. I kid you not, it took us almost 10 minutes to walk from the elevators to our room. My Bonvoy account is set up to request "room away from elevators" and did they ever deliver on that! It took us so long to get to our room that zero part of me wanted to leave it again until it was time to head to our gate. (But of course, the man needed dinner.) The room itself was spacious and comfortable, and the bed was just as cozy as I'd hoped. We got a good night's sleep, even though we got to bed late and had to wake up early for our flight. Was it an extravagance, booking a different hotel? Probably. Did it make a world of difference in our final day of travel? Absolutely. And I wouldn't have changed a thing.
