This is such a cool store. There is so much to look at. I dug through a bin of China and found some cool pieces. They also gave me a really good deal on a China set that will be my first to display. Now I just need to find a cabinet. The girl that worked there I didn't get her name but she was such a nice person and really helpful. Really excellent shop. I went in looking to replace a missing brass knob on a old nightstand. There was a meter out front and Lenny gave me quarter to feed it. They brought out a box of parts that had several that would work, and charged a whopping $1, 75 cents after parking! Ron Jason, the other proprietor, has been in quite a number of films, with posters on display. The Mark of the Astro Zombies looks like a must see. Lots of interesting items, and many cameras. read more

This shop is a great place to find vintage treasures at a great price! Tons of cool stuff crammed in every nook and cranny! The guys in the shop were super nice and helpful. I was looking for vintage fishing tackle and was thrilled to find whole bins full of great old reels. There were casting reels, fly reels, spin reels and trolling reels! There was also fishing rods, fishing vests, nets, spears and various gadgets. I could have spent hours there looking at everything! The owner even gave me a heads up that more fishing items are brought in frequently. I will definitely be going back! read more

My boyfriend and I love these guys. Great dusty little shop packed with treasures in every nook and cranny, and always friendly conversations and stories about the items for sale. We've found some great goodies, from military relics (boyfriend's speciality) to pin-ups and Victoriana (mine). I always love stopping by this shop when my bf goes to the card shop a few stores away. They have a wonderful selection of unique items that keep your eyes glued and curious. There items are VERY nicely priced (cameras, books, cool vintage Avon bottles, toys, comics, and trinkets galore, and MUCH more). They have new things often too. I've been shopping here for several years. They have a great selection with military items, photos, and all the sort of random chotski's you can want. I've bought a WW2 Officer's Katana, Navy Flag, Beer signs, Vintage Jackets, Bomber Jackets, etc. from this guy. The owner Ron gives great deals and is very knowledgeable with the items. He tells great stories on items and educates you on some good ol' history. He also buys items from people, my friend brought a bunch of native american items and Ron gave him a fair deal. Even if you are not interested in antiques or vintage items, I highly recommend to visit still because you never know what you find that will bring back the nostalgia in your soul. read more

My friend and I came here on a hunt for glass bottles and mason jars for her wedding centerpieces. The store is rather small, but is brimming with interesting goods tucked behind crevasses and inside drawers. We chanced upon a cardboard box filled with about 60 pieces of dirty old glassware in various sizes inside. After our visit to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, we expected the prices at Alabama Antiques to be just as high. We were elated when the store owner offered us $40 for the entire box. He even gave us a mini lesson about what each container was used for decades ago. He was a very welcoming guy, though I must admit that when I first saw him and his buddies huddled together with a rifle, I tried not to make eye contact as much as I could. Great prices, great treasures and great service. If you're looking for something specific, you can also call him to see if they have it before making the trip. I was looking for an antique train to gift my dad because he loves trains & they had a box full of vintage trains and tracks in the back. I frequent this antique store almost every weekend. I found it one afternoon when my sister wanted to go to the jewelry store across the street and instantly fell in love with it. I collect old photographs and every time I go, they always have new stock to look at. Since I've been going so often, the owner and workers have gotten to know me and are very sweet and helpful. This is my hidden treasure in old town Canoga Park. The main drag, Sherman Way between Topanga Canyon and Canoga Avenue, is where most of the antiques stores are located (there are some good ones on Owensmouth west of Sherman Way), but Alabama Antiques is hidden in a small street--well, Alabama Street, to be precise--right off of Sherman Way. I don't know how they stay in business, they're so low-profile, but maybe a lot of people like me shop there because it's an unplundered treasure-trove of weird and wonderful doodads, gewgaws, genuinely valuable antiques, old junk nobody but you wants, vintage clothing and luggage, semi-precious glassware, outdated audio and communications equipment (strictly analog), musical jewelry boxes from 1963, furnishings of unique and precisely individuated design (like a floor-level shelving unit designed to fit in a corner with inlaid exotic woods and chinoiserie paintings on it), unusual jewelry, old French pressed-glass perfume bottles, Coca-Cola serving trays from 1940, cake stands with pillars shaped like Edwardian-era maidens, hand-beaded minaudieres, a vast selection of antique beersteins, Victorian-era jewelry made from silver spoons, and stuff that nobody can figure out what it is. EVERY TIME I NEED A GIFT FOR SOMEONE, I go here. The owner is open to negotiation on prices, especially if he likes you or you become a regular or you buy a number of items all at once. It's just a magical hidden treasure-trove of delightful ephemera stacked and piled and filed and jumbled and stuffed one under the other, crammed into this tiny little brick shop with no indication from the outside that there's a wonderland of magical goodies inside. Come prepared to dig around, to find the perfect thing you never knew you needed, delights and wonders that no one would ever expect to receive as a gift and that is surely a one-of-a-kind item. The owner often has friends hanging out who are all helpful and will regale you with tales of The Item That Got Away or other charming conversation. I can't recommend this place enough. read more
