I attended this camp at the end of February for the first time and I am going back next year for sure. I would describe myself as an experienced recreational cyclist.
The camp: I checked in on a Saturday after lunch and right away we were led on a ~25mile ride. That felt great after driving for many hours from Illinois. A typical week day in the camp starts with breakfast, followed by a 50-75 mile ride. Lunch is usually a bit late, upon return to the house. In the afternoon, people generally relaxed, checked email, looked at their ride data, stretched, chatted and watched cycling videos. After dinner, we generally had a talk from Coach Aldo, whether it was nutrition, bike fit, training, etc.
The terrain in the area was undulating, so one can never be in the same gear for long. The roads were narrow, but we rarely encountered a car. Many of them were scenic. The idea of the camp is to build base miles, hence the longish rides at an easy rhythm.
Renee and Aldo make attendants feel like part of a family. The accommodations are not luxurious (you get a twin size bed in a shared bedroom, shared bathrooms), but cycling outside during the winter is a luxury for many of us. read more
