If you are unfortunate enough to settle for a seat along the wall directly beneath the speakers, you will have a hard time understanding dialogue; everything will sound muffled. This is the case whether it's the floor seating or the more expensive loge seats. The sound quality improves dramatically as soon as you stand up, and increases slightly the nearer you get to the center of the auditorium. -0 stars for the mice behind the wall upholstery engaging in a minor turf scuffle. I thought it was pretty funny when the wall right next to me started flapping and sending out mouse squeaks during a quiet moment of Blade Runner 2049. It added to Savoy's charm.

I like this cinema very much, especially the 1st one (there are about 8 theatres in total under one…read moreroof). It's big, airy and comfy at the same time. Posters and popcorn smell set the mood. Queues proceede quick, although it can be full on weekends and public holidays. Tickets are not too cheap, we paid 16,5 eur for 3 balcony tickets (they are a bit more expensive). With the screen size of space observatory it was all worth it. Two things to note: trailers of coming movies last at least 10-15 min, so don't panic if you're late and also female toilettes are hopelessly full after the movie. Some things never change! In my humble oppinion, that genius mind who'll solve this female toilette problem should get not less than a Nobel prize.

The screens I've seen have been big, and the projection, clear. The sound system left something to be desired, but wasn't actually bad. Snacks and drinks are expensive (no surprise there), and LINES ARE LONG AND SLOW - make sure to arrive early if, like me, you are a popcorn fiend!

They also offer all English movies with German subtitles as well as in dubbed versions. The prices as very fair and they even have student discount. Als their slection beverages and snacks is very good and bit pricey but nothing to special but very solid, they have a restaurant next door which is not directly connected to the cinema. Overall a very classy cinema!

Each month they have a different theme (recently was banned DEFA films from the DDR), along with a few newer films which you could get on DVD, but it wouldnt be the same experience (currently they are playing Berlin Calling a few times a week) so make sure to check out their website to see what is playing, as often you can find some gems here that you wouldnt have had the chance to see otherwise. This place is a non-profit and I think most of the people that work here do so on a volunteer basis. Tickets are 3.50, but you can pay up to 6 (everything above 3.50 is a donation)- so not only are tickets cheap but you can also feel good by supporting this place a bit too. In the lounge you can order a beer or a glass of wine and listen to what ever music they are spinning on the turntable before going in to the theater. The theater itself holds around 60 people and smallish screen and if the heat isnt on (only happened once when Ive been there), it can get rather cold. I dock this place one star only because of the bathrooms, which are outside and down in the basement of the next building, if its raining and cold it can be a pain.

Ich bin immer wieder gern in der Astor Filmlounge HafenCity. Schon beim Betreten der Räumlichkeiten…read moremerkt man, dass man in einem "Premium Kino" ist. Die Deckendeko mit den Fischen, das gesamte Innendesign: hochwertig und wunderhübsch. Eine Garderobe findet man hier genauso wie den kostenlosen Begrüßungsdrink (mit und ohne Alkohol. Es gibt 3 Säle, alle sind unterschiedlich groß. Alle Säle sind sauber und bieten mit normalen und auch Logenplätzen ein phantastisches Kino-Erlebnis. Die Sitze in den Logen-Reihen lassen sich auf Knopfdruck in sehr bequeme Liegesessel umfunktionieren. Highlight ist natürlich auch der Am-Platz-Service. Freundliches Personal nimmt die Bestellung auf, manchmal dauert dann das Bringen an den Platz etwas, aber das tut dem Gesamterlebnis keinen Abbruch. Ich komme immer wieder gerne her !
