We have been using Dr. Davidson for my son for the past 7 years and she is amazing. However, the incredibly rude and unprofessional front desk staff has made it impossible to continue using this practice. She is cruel and sarcastic and all around unhelpful. I haven't encountered this level of rude and unprofessional behavior from anyone we have ever dealt with at Children's. Apparently, they are not affiliated with Children's and only rent this space from Children's. We would never receive this level of plain meanness from anyone that is associated with Children's. 2 hour wait for an appointment that was made weeks ago. Chairs in waiting area are uncomfortable. Touchscreen for checkin is filthy. This place is dirty. Staff at checkin desk just gossiping and giggling. Not doing anything to help the 20 people sitting in the waiting area. They have over 30 chairs in the waiting room. That should give you an idea of how over booked and disorganized this place is. At least 5 people who came in after us were seen before us and also left before we were seen. They seem to be more interested in their consults for surgery to make $$$. These patients will be seen first even if their appointment time is later than yours, they don't care about your appointment time. Many reviews online that state how horrible the wait times are. Would never have made an appointment here if I had known. read more

Surgery was smooth and I really like Dr Greg Walker. I would highly recommend this group of ophthalmologists.

As persistent ocular troubles were plaguing me, I was referred here by my insurance, so I didn't pick Alabama Ophthalmology Associates but I was satisfied overall. I only saw Dr. Phillips, and he was able to diagnose my troubles. I guess I would describe Dr. Phillips as sort of grandfatherly; he asked me questions about what I do and would comment on current news stories. The front desk staff and nurses were polite and professional. Marie, the contact lens fitter, is a nice lady who is patient, willing to explain everything and often just starts explaining things without you asking, and is dedicated to putting you in the best possible lenses. She also doesn't push you to buy contacts from them which is something I always worry about. I think Marie is part of the optical shop side of AOA (Optiks), but I'll just include her here. Minus one star because of the unpredictable doctor wait times. I always get an early morning appointment, and I've waited anywhere from -5 minutes to 70 minutes past my appointment time to be shown back. read more

Dr. Long is a competent surgeon and easily the rudest person I've ever met. Over the course of four appointments (pre-op consult, operation day, and 2 follow-ups), he laughed at me, interrupted me every time I tried to talk, and dismissed any concern I tried to bring up. He spent the two follow up appointments patting himself on the back about how "perfect" his work was, while ignoring the two concerns I tried to bring up. He also dismissed my post-operative pain (abnormal for the surgery I had) as "worry." He told me several times that I was "anxious" about my surgery and used that as an excuse to not answer my questions, despite the fact that I never once expressed any anxiety about the procedure. The only reason I decided to move forward with the surgery is because I was going to lose my health insurance and wanted to get the procedure done while I could. I'm mostly, but not entirely, satisfied with my results. But I'll never set foot in his office again. If I ever need a revision, I'll go to another surgeon. Thankfully, his staff is pleasant and easy to talk to. They seem to be aware of his awful bedside manner and try to make up for it. I told two of the employees about how rude he had been to me, and they were validating about my experience. His staff seems very aware of how awful he is. Bless them for working there! If you want a competent but totally unpleasant surgeon, go for it, I guess. If you have the luxury of looking elsewhere, you should. read more

Great physicians! However, it's so sad when an office staff sets a poor tone for a visit. During the overwhelming majority of visits to this office, we have been met with curt replies from the front desk and unfriendly faces. Whenever I have to call, the answering technician, George, is unkind. He adds condescending comments whenever he can. I asked if my child could be seen by another physician as soon as possible because of a number of health issues - he replied "As I said before, his doctor is out today." This is what i mean by inserting a lack of empathy - he stated the obvious (duh my child's doctor is out, that's why I asked if another physician was available), and by cutting off any attempt to communicate a need, he shows his heart is not there to help. read more

Three times I have visited this group of physicians seeing two of their specialists. I was referred by my primary eye doctor. The second physician corrected by eye problem with a medical prescription for 30 days to find out if it worked. It did and I am grateful. The problem I have is with follow-up. After the 30 days I called to report the good news and to ask that my prescription be on a renewal basis rather than one time. After several attempts to talk to that doctor or his staff I was forced to leave a recorded message. Their message was that it would take two business days before return my call. It has now been two weeks. Worse, their recorded message says not to call again. Bye. read more

My experience with Alabama Ophthamology Associates has been wonderful! Dr. Parker is a very skilled and professional surgeon who performed DMEK surgery on my right eye at the Callhahan Eye Hospital. There were many directives I had to follow pre surgery and my questions were answered very promptly by Dr. Parker's staff. The result of the surgery was miraculous, my vision is so much better I can hardly believe it. The office staff is very professional and helpful, and I had absolutely no problem with the wait time. Dr. Baines is wonderful and would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the terrible wait time. You are scheduled for a time, don't get called back until 30-45 min later only to sit and wait another 45- 1hr to see the doctor. It's ridiculous. read more

2 hour long wait for initial exam surgery was rescheduled 1 week before and no they didn't hold to their rescheduling policy of knocking $100 off the bill then I had to call to get a refund for my deductible because the outpatient centers claim went through first and they tried to charge me my deductible twice read more

After several visits with my local ophthalmologist to find my problem (continued cloudy vision after two cataract surgeries in the same eye in 3 weeks), I searched out another doctor. I was referred to Dr Bains at Alabama Ophthalmology. She diagnosed my condition at the first visit. My original doctor totally missed it!!! My condition required a corneal transplant, which I had yesterday at Callahan Eye Hospital. Dr. Bains was amazing! I was extremely pleased with the entire experience - from friendly and efficient office staff, comfortable facilities, amazing hospital and staff, and a highly skilled surgeon! Dr. Davidson is an angel. My 3, now 4 year old daughter has an extremely rare eye condition. We have tried so many different doctors, but she was able to diagnose the condition and truly cares about getting her patients well again.
