How do you say beauttttttttiful!! My goodness! I forgot that I was in Alabama it was beautiful inside! Be aware, restrooms are at the bottom or the very top floor. This is just a beautiful building! The seats on the 1st balcony are in even numbers.

There is no more iconic Birmingham entertainment venue than the Alabama Theatre! Located in downtown Birmingham, this beautifully, renovated theater hosts concerts, seasonal events, and other fun occasions and celebrations. We recently attended the White Christmas viewing as part of their holiday series. Of course, the movie was proceeded by Christmas carols led by the theater host on the theater's pipe organ that ascends from below the stage. There was also a performance by the Vestavia Rockettes to get us all in the holiday spirit. The theater was decorated beautifully and everyone seemed to enjoy the show as much as I did. Feel free to wear your holiday finest, or jeans and a sweater. Arrive early, as seats are not assigned for the Christmas movie series. We arrived about 30 minutes before the show started, but still found excellent seats in the top balcony. Concessions are offered on multiple levels of the theater, so there's really no need to wait in a long line. Tickets for the holiday movie events sell out quickly, so order early!

Built in 1927 this venue is a rich part of Birmingham's heritage. I love coming to the Alabama Theatre whenever the opportunity presents itself. I've visited here a number of times and it's always an enjoyable experience. My most recent visit was to attend the Miss Alabama Pageant. I have been associated with this organization for many years and this was my first time attending the pageant here. In previous years when I've attended , the pageant was held at Samford University. I felt like there wasn't a bad seat in the house but I was wrong ! Our seats were located in the left Mezzanine section and they are terrible . It's extremely difficult to see the stage. No other complaints otherwise because the beauty and charm of this venue makes up for any other shortcomings. The dedicated ushers are all so friendly and helpful. Downtown parking always presents a unique challenge but if you get the opportunity to attend an event here , do yourself a favor and go!!

Absolutely a phenomenal and beautiful theater. First visit to this iconic theater to attend a concert and was impressed. A nostalgic theater with spectacular art and decor throughout the theater. This place is stunning. We attended the Lake Street Dive concert and would definitely go back for more.

How can you not love the Alabama Theater? It's simply mesmerizing. I remember the first time I came as a child. I have no clue what was on the stage/ screen. (Probably something educational.) I do remember walking in and having no expectations but being completely blown away by the beauty and extravagance. Every area is filled with grandeur. Every detail is perfect. Everything you watch is just better here. We saw The Princess Bride today and I noticed so many new details in the movie that I never noticed before. The comraderie and atmosphere is something you will not find at your average movie theater. I am so glad that the time and effort was put into restoring this beautiful, historic theater and the Lyric across the street. Oh, and don't forget that organ! Big Bertha, the mighty Wurlitzer, it is such an icon!

I was harassed by the security while entering the building, and the director doesn't think it's important enough to apologize to me for. I'm absolutely disgusted by this correspondence and my last encounter with the Alabama.

But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!

Tickets were half as much as they were in Atlanta so I drove to Birmingham for a mini-break! Parking can be pre-purchased online starting at $20 but there was a line of cars to enter so arrive early. Even though I had $25 nosebleed seats (shoutout to Live Nation's 1/2 off sale), the screens made it easy to see and the acoustics were great! Both performers were AMAZING! The line moved fairly quickly and I had no issues with security or staff (unlike State Farm). But an end row seat meant I had to frequently stand to to let people in. Patrons were super friendly. We all sang along to Maze's "Before I Let Go" as we exited. Rest in heaven Frankie Beverly.. I didn't order anything or use the restrooms so I can't comment on the amenities or food yet. The late great John Denver performed the first concert at the BJCC coliseum (known today as the Legacy Arean) on Sept. 28, 1976! Growing up, the BJCC was a big entertainment destination because few and far between were the "great" entertainment acts who visited my hometown of Huntsville, AL. Over the years, I've seen lots of great acts at the BJCC, including Van Halen [pre Van Hagar days] numerous times starting in August 1981, the legendary The Who on November 30, 1982, Kid Rock numerous times, and attended an excellent Alanis Morisette show here! It's nice to have the Uptown Entertainment District nearby and the extensive modernization of the arena in 2020 enhanced the lighting and sound systems, concessions, and amenities for artists. Well done Majic City!

The Nick is definitely not for everyone -- but it's absolutely an experience you'll never forget…read more After my friend (who was hosting us) passed out, my other friend and I decided to see more of Birmingham's nightlife. A friendly bartender at Up-Down Arcade Bar (another must-visit!) told us about this place, mentioning it's one of the few bars open 24 hours on the weekend. Naturally, curiosity won. From the jump, this place had character. There's a bouncer at the door, a makeshift elevated DJ booth to the right where you have to pay cash for a "membership." Don't worry -- there's an ATM conveniently behind the booth, ready to charge you a nice little convenience fee if you didn't bring cash. The membership lasts a year, but still, that was a first for me. Inside? Small. Crowded. Lively. And at 1 AM, there was a guy passed out in a chair right by the entrance -- with his dog roaming freely around the bar. I honestly couldn't make this up if I tried. The bartenders were solid -- fast, cool, and trying their best to keep up with the rush. There's a selection of local beers (pretty good ones too) and two pool tables... well, technically one, since they only had one cue ball. The pool sticks? Ancient relics. The bathroom? I'll spare you the visuals. Outside was much more breathable. There was a local guy named Walter -- from Georgia, of all places -- selling BBQ. Cool dude. The turkey wing was a little tough, but his attitude made up for it. Now, the real highlights? The people and the atmosphere. You've got folks eavesdropping on your conversations, tossing around racially backed jokes at me (that I politely corrected), a row of chain-smokers out front, and a woman openly asking for cigarettes or change that may have been homeless, but was definitely a crackhead and she so eloquently vocalized. It's a gritty and downright raw type of place, but somehow, it works. There wasn't any live music when we came, but I'm sure that's what makes this place shine more than it already does in its own unique way. I'll definitely be back for a performance night. Bottom line: Five stars because The Nick is exactly what it's supposed to be -- an unfiltered slice of Birmingham nightlife that refuses to apologize for being itself.
