Update: There was…read morean incident in Halloween of 2025 with one of your fellow officers pushing me. It was in a bar in downtown Hayward around A Street and Main Street. I was standing by the corner of the front bar. This Hispanic or Caucasian obnoxious officer of HPD did say "excuse me" to me and others. So I did my best to move a side. Still, HE PUSHED ME towards the bar table. Mind you it was crowded. Still not necessary to PUSH me (his hands on my back while my chest hits the bar table). I've seen him around for years. Usually obnoxious, arrogant, and sometimes looking like he's profiling me. I just let those things go. But not this episode of pushing me. If I'm not mistaken, I think his name is "Mendez" or "Melendez". I could be wrong. Luckily, I found a picture of him in a HPD social media account. I wanted to give this a 1 star but I figured that some of your officers are actually respectful and professional enough.

Less then 5 minutes later that same car was pulling up to me. A little man got out the passenger side asking me did I have proper id to park there . I looked at him just like he was little. I shook my head in a yes way. He asked for proof!! I showed him proof! I had to take out my wallet to continue showing my proof! I asked why was he disturbing me he said they was on PARKING ticket duty! No Drugs! NOGuns! No! Alcohol! No! Loud music! No! Complaints! No! Speeding No! High Speed Chase! No Warrants! But I don't LOOK! like them! Police you must do better this was the 3rd time in Hayward I was HARRASSED by you and I know hundreds of people in Hayward that's never even seen you face to face for any reason. Just give me a few more years and you can have your city back. But until then remember I live here and pay taxes for YOU even when you're wrong! What happened to the police used to be OUR neighbors! But now you live somewhere else with my money. If I'm wrong prove it.

It was about 5pm and time was tight because I had to stop by McDonald's for dinner and then take my son home, and then turn around and come back to campus for my 6:30pm class. Because of this, I didn't roll up my windows. I was gone but 5 minutes. I didn't realize my bag was stolen because I didn't notice it was gone until after we got back in the car at McDonald's. Even then, I thought that maybe I had been mistaken and had never actually taken it with me, but rather, left it in my office. When I came back to school at 6:15pm and checked my office, it was not there. That's when I realized that it had, in fact, been in my car and must have been taken. There was nothing of value to anyone else in my bag, but I had my USB stick in there with the ONLY copy of my term paper and 3-page bibliography -- DUE THAT NIGHT at 6:30pm -- plus, virtually all my lesson plans, handouts, and PowerPoints that I have ever created these past 2 years as a graduate Teaching Assistant. I spent about an hour rummaging through dumpsters and alleyways, etc. within a 5 mile radius of McDonald's. I never found it. My professor offered to give me an incomplete. This was my LAST CLASS and then I would have my master's. LAST CLASS! Then yesterday morning, the CSUEB campus police called my brother, who lives all the way in Texas! Corporal Andrew Hardenburgh had taken the time to delve through my bag (it is soooo messy with random papers, etc.) to find any identifying information. I had an old email from my brother in it and he called and emailed him ON A HUNCH. Thank you, thank you, Andrew! Funny thing is, I had been meaning to clean all of my junk out, including that email, but had never gotten around to it. Thank goodness for being lazy! And thank goodness for campus cops and their instincts! -J

Absolutely the worst ran police department this city has had in years. I've been a resident of San…read moreLeandro most of my life. The city has definitely grown and had changes. Some good, some bad. The police department though is a joke. Their social media content creator continually touts "education" vs law enforcement. Okay, you guys want to educate? Try community policing. The last good chief San Leandro had was Chief Tudor. When he was forced out because of politics roughly 30+ officers also quit, went on disability, or lateralled out. Says a lot about leadership. Don't get me started on the mayor or any of the other city government positions, all idiots. Now lets move along to dispatch. These idiots would rather explain to me that at 0300 its perfectly legal to smoke in your car, even if its out of tin foil, glass pipe, and a torch. That's exactly how i enjoy smoking cigars. You should try it. Now presently. I sent in a photo of a possibly abandoned vehicle with tags that were last renewed in 2020. Now this car should been towed period. Well the owners just moved it down the street. Still and eye sore. Yes i even did the neighborly thing and tried speaking with them. I was just met with hostility. I have emailed the traffic sergeant, the mayor, and used the san leandro app multiple times asking for help with traffic issues i see. Over the past few years I have no received 1 email or phone call back. I have seen ZERO attempts at doing traffic enforcement period. The san leandro app just advises they will let the traffic sergeant know. So either the people who run the app aren't letting them know or the traffic sergeant gives zero fucks. I look at neighboring cities and see how they work together with other local, county and state agencies to provide service, yes you guys provide a service. On the first day of school 2026, their social media creator said there was "8 officers and technicians city wide...." to help with traffic and other violations. They didn't specify how many sworn vs techs which matters. There is also 12+ schools within the city limits so, you guys had 8 bodies covering 12 school. What a joke. In castro valley for example, CHP and ACSO were issuing tickets for traffic violations in school zones, parking issues, and driving past school buses. I think its safe to say san leandro police doesnt care about public safety or quality of life. Listen up, what is it going to take to get a department worth a damn? The officers you have and that are available has zero life experience, are way too entitled and lazy. I am very pro law enforcement, however san leandro police, and the city government come up short 99% of the time. You guys are an absolute joke of a law enforcement department.

I am not sure if this is the best place, as I couldn't find the actual probation office in Yelp,…read morebut this is who this review is meant for, specifically Mrs. Martinez i have been on probation most of my life, and it has always seemed as though it's just there to get you caught up again and again, instead of trying to understand the individual and why they (in my case) keep getting into trouble . Mrs. Martinez is different; she actually cares about what is going on in your life that has led you to her and really pulls out all the stops and options to help you be successful not only in completing your probation successfully but also in your life inso making it possible to stay off of probation in the future. She has gotten me into counseling (something I never thought was even an option or that I needed or would be helpful , but it was, for understanding why I make some of these bad choices, understanding what triggers me and how to deal with those triggers ) instead of a rehab treatment I didn't need and would have gotten me let go of my current job, due to all the required check ins and meetings i would need to attend . she also helped me to get back on my feet with temoarary houseing until together we found affordable perminate houseing keeping my family the entire time. All probation officers dealing with troubled individuals should have this approach instead of setting you up to fail to keep you in the system and money flowing through the jails. If all probation iofficers handeled certin cases like this I truly belive crime would be down and we lives could be saved.
