Update: There was…read morean incident in Halloween of 2025 with one of your fellow officers pushing me. It was in a bar in downtown Hayward around A Street and Main Street. I was standing by the corner of the front bar. This Hispanic or Caucasian obnoxious officer of HPD did say "excuse me" to me and others. So I did my best to move a side. Still, HE PUSHED ME towards the bar table. Mind you it was crowded. Still not necessary to PUSH me (his hands on my back while my chest hits the bar table). I've seen him around for years. Usually obnoxious, arrogant, and sometimes looking like he's profiling me. I just let those things go. But not this episode of pushing me. If I'm not mistaken, I think his name is "Mendez" or "Melendez". I could be wrong. Luckily, I found a picture of him in a HPD social media account. I wanted to give this a 1 star but I figured that some of your officers are actually respectful and professional enough.

Less then 5 minutes later that same car was pulling up to me. A little man got out the passenger side asking me did I have proper id to park there . I looked at him just like he was little. I shook my head in a yes way. He asked for proof!! I showed him proof! I had to take out my wallet to continue showing my proof! I asked why was he disturbing me he said they was on PARKING ticket duty! No Drugs! NOGuns! No! Alcohol! No! Loud music! No! Complaints! No! Speeding No! High Speed Chase! No Warrants! But I don't LOOK! like them! Police you must do better this was the 3rd time in Hayward I was HARRASSED by you and I know hundreds of people in Hayward that's never even seen you face to face for any reason. Just give me a few more years and you can have your city back. But until then remember I live here and pay taxes for YOU even when you're wrong! What happened to the police used to be OUR neighbors! But now you live somewhere else with my money. If I'm wrong prove it.

I actually experienced mild (passive) racism by officers of this department. A couple years back a…read morecrazy angry driver crashed into me, and I had a witness pull over with me so the 3 of us talked to SRPD. The angry man was of middle eastern descent (surname Ali), and the witness was a Chinese man, and I am 80% Chinese. Ironically, Mr Ali yelled at us right off the bat to "go back to our own country", even though he's a minority as well and I was born in Hayward, California. Anyway, that's beside the point. When the police showed up, 2 officers from San Ramon Police Department, Mr Ali claimed that the other Chinese man and I were related and knew each other and that was why we were both against him, when in reality it was just a random guy that witnessed his reckless driving that caused an accident. We were in 3 separate cars and have different last names and everything. 3 total strangers. Because of this racist assumption, the insurance companies ruled it a no fault collision even though it was obviously at fault. This forced me to pay a few thousand dollars for repairs with no compensation (insurance covered damages for 10k+ but I had to pay the deductible and other fees) due to this implicit bias by both the subject in question, but more importantly, the officers who took our report and contact information and stuff. I hope they get better with this whole "justice" thing. Of course this is purely anecdotal based on a total of one interaction I've had with this department in my life (I've lived in San Ramon since 2004), but I'm sure they can do better, or perhaps, be better.

I utilized this service in July for my job and an officer assisted me. Yesterday, I went again to get Level 3 clearance with the district. I was pleasantly surprised that early this morning I received an email that everything was approved. I have been a volunteer for 5 years with the district so not sure if that helped with the expedited process/approval. Well, I am sure it did. Therefore, kudos for a quick and seamless process SRPD, SRVUSD, and BAM.

It was about 5pm and time was tight because I had to stop by McDonald's for dinner and then take my son home, and then turn around and come back to campus for my 6:30pm class. Because of this, I didn't roll up my windows. I was gone but 5 minutes. I didn't realize my bag was stolen because I didn't notice it was gone until after we got back in the car at McDonald's. Even then, I thought that maybe I had been mistaken and had never actually taken it with me, but rather, left it in my office. When I came back to school at 6:15pm and checked my office, it was not there. That's when I realized that it had, in fact, been in my car and must have been taken. There was nothing of value to anyone else in my bag, but I had my USB stick in there with the ONLY copy of my term paper and 3-page bibliography -- DUE THAT NIGHT at 6:30pm -- plus, virtually all my lesson plans, handouts, and PowerPoints that I have ever created these past 2 years as a graduate Teaching Assistant. I spent about an hour rummaging through dumpsters and alleyways, etc. within a 5 mile radius of McDonald's. I never found it. My professor offered to give me an incomplete. This was my LAST CLASS and then I would have my master's. LAST CLASS! Then yesterday morning, the CSUEB campus police called my brother, who lives all the way in Texas! Corporal Andrew Hardenburgh had taken the time to delve through my bag (it is soooo messy with random papers, etc.) to find any identifying information. I had an old email from my brother in it and he called and emailed him ON A HUNCH. Thank you, thank you, Andrew! Funny thing is, I had been meaning to clean all of my junk out, including that email, but had never gotten around to it. Thank goodness for being lazy! And thank goodness for campus cops and their instincts! -J
