I had to go to CHP-Hayward to file a report about a hit & run accident on I-880 N. A box truck driver was weaving in traffic and hitting other vehicles. He was probably a DUI. Anyway, I got to this office after they had closed. An officer came out and told me the CHP Office is a State agency, and not a police station. Therefore, the office closes at 5pm, and I had to come back in the morning. So I came back at around 930am, filled out paperwork, and an officer came outside to view the damage. I've stopped by this office a few times in the past because of my job. This time, I had to take care of a fix-it ticket. It's conveniently near the freeway and across the street from Target. If you're not paying attention, it's easy to miss because you'll notice the spacious parking lot before you see the building as you drive by. Due to Covid, the door is locked and you have to call a phone number to have an officer come out. And once again, I was assisted by a friendly CHP officer and it took no more than 10 minutes. read more

This review is really for Officer Parks. I was beyond impressed with him on Monday night. I went here with my family (my son's new car seat was installed). Our appointment was at 6. I went inside and was soon greeted by Officer Parks (the lobby is somewhat spacious, and I briefly thought about the "I'll be back" scene in The Terminator). I was a bit worried at first. I must have been seeing things, as Officer Parks initially seemed to be cross-eyed (hmm- maybe my eyes should be checked out). I was given some paperwork, and it was easy to fill out (especially since I had my wife do it). It's a good thing that we arrived so early. A woman from Alameda came a few minutes before 6, and she had to wait. That's my only "complaint." The procedure should be adjusted a little. Only 2 car seat appointments are made for a given hour. That's good, as half an hour is usually an adequate amount of time. People shouldn't be scheduled to come in at exactly the same time, though. If there's only 1 officer around, that makes it a given that someone is going to have to wait. So, for example, we could have been scheduled at 6, and the woman from Alameda could have been scheduled at 6:30. That would have at least been better for her (a guy had to wait too- he showed up early for a 7 p.m. appointment). Our car seat was tricky to install (I thought that it would be after reading the manual, which is why I wanted the appointment in the first place), and so the woman was only helped here and there until we left at 6:50. At one point I stared at her, partly because she was attractive, but also because I felt bad that she had to kill so much time (it's interesting that she made an appointment with this CHP- there's one closer to Alameda). Officer Parks even asked her if she wanted to reschedule. Officer Parks was very friendly. He even chatted with my wife and I a bit. He was also quite thorough. He talked us through everything. He made some small mistakes (he hadn't installed a car seat like ours in quite some time), but used them as learning tools. I also don't consider them mistakes really (for example, the car seat was initially made more secure than it needed to be- safety is the name of the game, and so my wife and I certainly weren't bothered by this). It was optional, but Officer Parks attached the car seat to the front passenger seat (I thought it was a nice touch that he wrapped the manual with the rubber band that was freed up). Again, he was very focused on safety. Officer Parks also bailed me out. When the car seat was ready, I was wondering why it was hard buckling my son in. Well, that's because I didn't have the chest clip lined up right. My son Joshua got stuck. The chest clip couldn't be unhooked. Officer Parks left and returned with a screwdriver. After a few minutes, he even came close to looking for some pliers (it was kind of comical). Meanwhile, Joshua was crying (I'm pretty sure that he wanted to pee on me the whole time). Giving him some snacks just calmed him down a little. I tried to help, but Officer Parks did the real work, and Joshua was freed after about 5 minutes. Early on, Officer Parks gave my wife and I a CHP sticker for Joshua (by the way, he did a great job interacting with him too), and we didn't leave until he made sure that we were all set. I hate to say but had a bad experience here. I came to get a copy of a report the officer was setting down looking at his cell phone telling me to "wait" I gave him the initial paperwork needed. Unaware cash was needed and not credit or debit. I was getting the cash as the officer was still holding my DL a lady behind the glass was getting the cash I gave her and giving me my paperwork. the male officer tossed my DL towards the window I was at told the lady helping me " you never caught it" what kind of business is this? Very rude and we so pose to respect the law??? He never apologized for his behavior even had a crazy intentional smirk on his face. I got my paperwork and left disgusted.. read more

The extra star is because they COULD be a group of boys overloaded with firearms who think they're heroes or something. Oh, wait. I'm not expecting kindness from boys who think they're above the law but maybe if you want to pretend that you care about people you're sworn to protect, you should take up some acting classes along with your firearm trainings, no? Only got a pretty tame traffic ticket (going over 5mph but it was end/beginning of the month quota time haha) but it's the story that's funny and sad. Had an officer call in his partner and make him cause a horrible and also very dangerous traffic obstruction of blocking both lanes of a 65mph highway and forcing people down to about 50mph (benefit of the doubt, I'm sorry to those poor people). I guess you do what you want when you have power and fear over people + can't be bothered to give a sh*t about safety. I'm pretty much not complaining for myself but because he decided to pull this stunt on top of a curving hill, which is pretty dangerous to suddenly 1) block people with your car (which is already annoying as it is since the highway was pretty empty and people have places to be) on a blind hill and 2) force people to suddenly slow down like this a**hole did. Hey, I don't mind paying the ticket since 5mph over = $$$ for these idiots - I just wish that that money was going to hiring actually intellectual people and that there WEREN'T idiots being hired and subsequently given power at CHP and PD. If I weren't still somewhat miffed and embarrassingly yes, somewhat traumatized, by the whole interaction with this fool I would've probably put the hilariously sad dashcam recording up on YouTube of the choo-choo train of inane thinking. Called and made an appointment for car seat installations. I showed up promptly was greeted by an officer and filled out a short form. Officer Hunter installed 2 car seats in 15 minutes. He explained each step as he was installing. And he gave me information for when the car seat would need to be changed. Even though his installed in a flash he made sure they were secure and safe. I would recommend everyone to take a few minutes to have their car seats checked out. read more

Today I was driving 880 south, just coming off the 238 interchange & approaching the A Street exit when my car just suddenly died. Fortunately I had enough momentum to coast to the shoulder, with my emergency flashers on. Not even a minute passed when I look in my rear view mirror & I see a CHP car had pulled up behind me. The officer approached my car on the passenger side & asked if he could be of assistance & he asked if I'd like him to call AAA for me. Told him I was just about to do so & he said they respond much more quickly when an officer calls in. I had him do so; he took care of that, came back to my car & advised me to stay in the car with seatbelt on, that a tow truck should be arriving in 20 minutes or so. He was on his way to another incident but said when he was done he'd come back my way to make sure I was taken care of. Tow truck arrived in 17 minutes & after another few minutes the officer returned. He checked on me again & I let him know everything was good. The officer stayed until the tow truck, with me as a passenger, pulled away on our way to the car dealership in Fremont. Officers don't often receive any appreciation when it's deserved, and only get feedback when it's negative. The officer who came to my rescue today is Officer Hutson and I intend to follow up by sending his office/superior a letter stating my appreciation for a job well done & his expression of a caring, human attitude. Kudos to Officer Hutson and I know if he continues his career as he demonstrated today he will be extremely successful. read more

I wish I could give any lower ratings than this. Officer greeted me with a hand gesture rather than 'how can I help you' or a simple 'hi/hello'..I was there to get my car seat checked. Officer told me to meet another officer who was working with another customer. I waited for that officer for 15-20 minutes. Checked in inside again and front desk lady told me that I have to wait and she cannot give me any appointment. I again waited for 5 more minutes and then the actual officer told me that I have to get an APPOINTMENT to get my car seat checked. ONLY IF OTHER OFFICER OR FRONT DESK LADY WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT I NEED AN APPOINTMENT, IT'D HAVE SAVED ME AT LEAST 20 MINUTES OF MY LIFE. No respect for other's time. read more

We had a fantastic experience with our car seat installation with Officer Fowler! Our doctor's office told us about the free service they offer, and it was relatively easy to get an appointment. There are not a lot of options in the area for car seat installations/inspections, and especially not a lot that are free. I called to make the appointment by phone, and I was surprised at the number of available appointments, considering the lack of options in the area. Officer Fowler was incredibly friendly and made us feel very much at ease about our choice of car seat and base, and got the two bases installed into our two cars in no time; all while showing and explaining to us how to do it. One of our cars does not have the easy Latch system, so we were a little nervous about the install, but it was no sweat to Officer Fowler. Our appointment was the last appointment of the day, and Officer Fowler told us he'd been doing the appointments all day long, back to back since early that morning. He told us he does these car seat installs about once a month. He clearly loves this part of his job, because he was incredibly up beat and did not make us feel rushed whatsoever. Went there this am for infant seat check and Officer Droff (sp?) was very nice, knowledgeable and professional. I got lost on the way over, no thanks to the updated Google Maps. I was almost 10 minutes late for my 0800 appointment so had to wait a bit but still less than 15 minutes. It was a great experience overall and would recommend all local parents to make an appointment to have their car seats checked with Hayward CHP. I learned a lot about safety, proper placement of my seat and baby, as well as how to check the seatbelt and etc. They do this every Thursday by appointment only so call early! read more
