If you're lucky then you'll get to see Lake Wakatipu and the snow capped mountain ranges on the way in or out. This airport doesn't have jetways to deplane the passengers but the walk across the tarmac lets one soak in more of the surrounding mountains. After retrieving our luggage, we then had to queue in lines according to what we declared on the NZTD form (international arrivals). You can fill out the NZTD online in advance and skip filling out the paper version on the plane. The longest line were those of us who said yes to something like food, medicine, wilderness visit (camping more specifically), etc. Depending on your answers to the agents questions you were either allowed to proceed to the electronic immigration gates or redirected to another line for more screening. I just wished there were more open lines since this was the slowest arrival step. Rental car counters were grouped all together near the airport exit. We had to walk around five minutes to reach the cars which were past the taxi stand. Exiting the airport with our rental was ok but the main road was under construction heading towards the center. Luckily we returned the rental to Christchurch and avoided the return headache.

We had a rental car and it was pouring rain so Husband dropped me off with luggage and then dropped off car since there was a bit of a walk from rental car spot to ticketing area. We flew Quantas. Lots of baggage tag kiosks. Everything self serve. Not really any lines (we were there at 5am). At the gate area, there was one coffee shop open, Fuel to Fly, and I was grateful for that so I could get a latte and breakfast bar. There was plenty of seating in the gate area and we took off on time. Great experience.

After disembarking the ship, a guide will direct you where to go depending on what you booked. Our first stop was the afternoon tea, and wow, I suggest you don't fill up on the ship because there was a very nice variety of scones, sandwiches, baked items, coffee, tea, and etc. Definitely enough for a meal! Everything was good. Coffee was good! After the meal, you had some time to walk around until the tour starts. The tour was fantastic. Our guide was really informative and upbeat. We had opportunities to meet and feed many farm animals--cattle, sheep, alpacas, goats, and pigs. But not too sure about putting your entire hand into the cattle's mouth to feed it. Wish I was a kid, so I'd find it fun and interesting rather than weird and disgusting lol. The farm is maintained quite well. Even the animals seemed cleaner than what I've experienced. Next was the Sheep Show where you got to see farm dogs herd sheep, and a live demonstration of sheep sheering. Fresh wool anyone? Yes, you can take it with you if you want. The whole tour was roughly 3.5 hours, and you'll have time to visit the gift shop before the ship arrives. You'll hear the horn when it's time to board. Overall, this was an interesting experience, and definitely recommended and a fun addition your TSS Earnslaw cruise. The staff is really friendly and upbeat. Where else can you stick your hand into the mouth of a cattle, and take home super fresh off the sheep wool?

We received a lot of education around the agriculture on the farm, herding, sheep, and the meat! The buffet was fantastic! It offered a lot of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options! If you love meat, like I do, you'll absolutely love this place. They had so much seafood and meat you could ever imagine. I really enjoyed learning about how the dogs heard the sheep on the farm. It's truly a unique business and I would 10 out of 10 recommend anybody go to the farm!

We had originally booked the 9:45am departure but decided it was just too early. I actually emailed them and it was changed to 11:45am by their customer service rep (thanks again!). We paid the difference in price upon arrival at the ferry terminal. Since the rain was ongoing, we actually preferred a shorter trip. Some of the other companies offer a longer cruise at a slightly higher price. We were happy with what we got. The weather... It was rough. The views though, gorgeous. The waterfalls were probably at their maximum due to the rainfall. I stayed outside for most of the time on the second level where there was coverage. This was not a five star only because I think if they actually reached capacity (200 people) it really would not have been enjoyable. Under our conditions and circumstances, it was a solid 4 star experience. The captain was very friendly and I was able to chat with him for a bit. That was cool.

As a first time rider, I was a little nervous but everyone who worked there was very encouraging. Before I knew it, I was exploring the beautiful area on a horse. We paid a little more ($30) for a private session and it was worth every penny ! We ride at our own pace, stopped to take pictures whenever we wanted to , and with a personal guide, we could ask heaps of questions. Our tour guide was a young lady on her vacation-work visa here in NZ but she was very knowledgeable about horses and explained a lot about the area. This is no adrenaline rush activity like 90% of activities offered by Queenstown but this is a good fun for all age groups. Highly recommended!

Taking a leisurely cruise on the TSS Earnslaw along the majestic Lake Wakatipu is something not to…read moremiss while visiting Queenstown. The TSS Earnslaw is a 120+ year old coal steamship that is maintained almost exactly to how it was at that time. It's quite a large vessel at 48 meters long with two levels. You can access almost the entire ship. There's a top view the engine room to see the coals being shoveled into the furnace while also feeling the heat! There's a cafe where you can purchase food, coffee, and drinks with a good amount of tables to sit, a small museum/photo gallery of its history, and just where ever you are on the ship, you will always have amazing views of the pristine Lake Wakatipu and the mountain range. It can be windy, and the stairs can be steep and slippery, so be careful. You can purchase tickets on their website, or at the RealNZ Visitor Centre ticket counter located at the wharf along Beach Street. There are other activities you can add on with your cruise, such as the Walter Peak Farm Tour (with afternoon tea), a Gourmet BBQ Dinner at Walter Peak's Homestead Restaurant, or an Eco Experience where you tour the farm's gardens and grounds. In other words, the TSS Earnslaw's destination is Walter Peak High Country Farms, which you can partake in activities, or walk around yourself and catch the next ride. Overall, this was a very fun and enjoyable experience, and a must do while visiting Queenstown. The whole cruise was 90 minutes. It was a smooth ride, and the food and coffee is more than acceptable. The staff were friendly.

Several others in our section were also waiting a very long time for their orders. It was only maybe an hour and a half into being there that someone came over and apologized to the tables in our section for the kitchen being "slammed." The restaurant was not at full capacity - many tables were empty - and they did not appear to be short staffed with front of house. Maybe they were just having an off night, but was definitely expecting a higher level of service for what I expected to be a fine dining experience.
