It took two tries to actually get fireworks from this place, but the journey was totally worth it…read more Don't waste you're time locating a small shack that may or may not carry what you want, just go straight to Diablo Fireworks. Since EP keeps banning fireworks [insert tears and heart break here] I knew anyone wanting to "blow stuff up" would have to make a trek to NM. It was nearing midnight and after passing a few firework shacks that were closed I whipped out my handy dandy...cellphone!...and opened my handy dandy...Yelp app!...and voila! Diablo Fireworks came up! Using GPS to get out to Diablo is a little hectic because it's out on a dirt road slightly off I-10. Basically, coming from El Paso to New Mexico it'll be on your right. After you pass Love's gas station you get off on the following exit, take a right at the lights and another right as soon as you see an opening (if you're lucky there will be a little sign that says fireworks), and follow the dirt road until you find yourself at Diablo Fireworks. Like I said, 4th of July. Now after midnight. We walk in to only find out they're closed. Bummer. I guess I just expected firework places to stay open 24 hours on the most American day of the year. Now knowing exactly where DF was, we made the trip a few days later. You can build an arsenal of fireworks at DF! Every kind of firework I could think of was there and some crazy ones I've never heard of. Black Cat is really the only firework company I'm familiar with and they had them available in abundance. There are even a few firework packs that were seriously taller than me. Crazy. DF is open year round so I'm sure the prices are a tad inflated during the summer, but that being said almost everything was buy one, get one free. Awesome! We ended up with a few different ones that I don't remember the names of. The Roman Candles were the only one that confused me because the wick was hidden and after trashing one we finally figured it out. And if you're an EP local and just want to shoot off fireworks, but you don't have a particular place, DF will let you pop them off in their parking lot...not near the building of course (there's additional dirt roads out there and a "fence" to let you know how far you can go). I made my friend light all the fireworks because I was being a pansy (I've had bad luck with fireworks...I've never been burned, but people around me have haha), but it seriously reminded me of every summer I ever spent in Wisconsin...ahh...the good ol' days. Really awesome warehouse filled with everything you've ever wanted for the best firework show ever and the most helpful and peppy staff.
